  • Dairy: Bad for you?

A friend was preaching that dairy is a processed food that has been marketed to us as something healthy when in fact it's not. He was also saying that it's a major cause of things such as nasal congestion, mucus, asthma etc since it's relevant to me.

I'm going to cut it out of my diet for a few weeks and see how im feeling. Does anyone else have any knowledge of this?

    Here's a couple of articles I've found:

very true, not sure if its because its processed, but it affects some people.

I can't eat a lot of dairy, I just never feel right after it. I steer clear of full cream milk, milkshakes, anything loaded with butter just to avoid feeling ill afterwards.

My only vice is cheese. I couldn't live without cheese!

My kids were raised on goats milk. This was because we found tehy were susceptible to asthma and allergies to cow's milk.

Goats milk is "lactose free" - 100%. the problem with Cow's milk is it hyper allergenic. It promotes allergies. Lactose is one of the promoters. In some cases it causes "bloating" or in my son's case, it promotes severe chest congestion and Asthma. There are a large number of kids that are chollicy or flegmy. The one thing the parents havent tried is cutting their cow's milk intake completely. in most cases the problems go away instantly.

Now my son's 11 he is growing out of the allergy or adapting to it and he can have smaller doses of cows milk or dairy product but for the majority of his 10 years, he had to go without milk chocolate, and ice cream, pizza with cheese etc. Sheeps cheese like Fetta was OK. Soy was good for him in cereal or as smoothies or milkshakes, but only to a degree, as Soy also has dairy additives in it. Goats was the best. the Pauls brand in a Green and white carton. You can get it regularly at the big Supermarkets and IGAs. Most people are stocking it now as it is so popular with parents and kids. The smell is a little "different" but you get used to it. I even tried it in a coffee once because I was out of normal milk and it tasted weird but i can drink it now.

It varies between $4 and $4.50 LITRE (NOT CHEAP).
Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

You are probably allergic to the lactose in milk and like most people just dont know it until you get allergy tested.

Hmm well I bought a low fat soy milk today and I can live with the taste. Does it have the same affects on mucus etc as cow milk? I don't see how it has dairy additives.. isn't it 100% derived from soy beans? I don't want to drink something that I'm believing will benefit my fight against mucus/tonsilltiis etc in vain if I might as well be drinking cows milk..

Its funny,i wax and wane with dairy products,i go through periods where i will have a glass of milk when i get home from work then there are times i wont touch milk for times like 3 months in a row. There are times where i feel like my body craves it then are times i can't stand it.Still love cheese but i can't stand the taste of full cream milk,i drink light when i have it.Dont mind yoghurt every now and then.

did you ever stop to think that a food that is meant for the babies of an animal with 4 digestive compartments might not be well suited to humans????

If you want to feed the masses cheaply and support your local economy tell them to eat bread and milk.

The myth of preventing osteoporosis is laughable.
We have some of the highest rates in the world.
The calcium in cows milk is hardly bio available.

                      Its a con, wake up.
