I sat and watched the news this evening in tears....I can not believe the utter devistation and kaos that is occuring to our northern neighbours.....

I was on the pohone to GIO, whos call entre is in Brisbane at 4.35 this arvo, and the message went from one telling me that I would have a 40 minute wait, to one telling me that I will have to call back later as the customer service centres have been affected by the flood waters.....
I am not expecting my claim to be paid out very fast now, and I have been without a car since the 27th dec......

It kind of puts things in perspective.....

I work in the mining industry up here in Central Qld. This happened at a mine near the town of Baralaba. There is a couple of million bucks worth of equipment under that water.

I am so sorry c_q, my thoughts are with you.

No one could fathom this kind of devastation, I hope people can give what they can and I hope other countries will help us just like we have helped them

My home town of Warwick is a complete mess too. We already went through the trauma of it all in 1976 but this is more frightening. I left home over 20 years ago and since then, Warwick has become home to the Big W National Distribution Centre and none of the truckies can leave to deliver to places like Port Macquarie because they are stranded, therefore they won't get paid.

My brother moved into a new house in Adare on the 5th of Jan. It is now under water. Not bloody good.

Update, the house is relatively unscathed, some water got in. Others weren't so lucky.

              ^

This stuff is so unbelievably sad. Can't help but feel so devastated for everyone up there, especially where I grew up but at the same time be in absolute awe of it all. Goes to show how little control we actually have when nature takes control and what little value 'stuff' ends up having.

I can't believe this was suncorp at lunch time

and it would have gotten a heck of a lot worse since then.

But I couldn't hold back the tears when I read this story. What a brave, brave, llittle champ. RIP.

Well I don't mean to sound callous but if we didn't have these floods (maybe not of this magnitude) more often we would have to rely on desalination and also putting the brakes on our population growth. The latter is not a good idea unless we can produce more of our own kids.
                It's only natural.

Shame there isnt enough dams To hold all the water. In about 5 years time these same areas now devastated by flodd will be in drought again

Thats the problem Andrew. The way our river systems work, rivers in the southern states rely on 'dumps' like this from QLD. Water from one river flows into another all the way down to the Murray Darling basin. If we build more dams the flow would just stop before everyone got what they needed.

We were up in Ipswich in October and I shoped at that coles a couple of times.
Thankfully I think the friends we have up there are OK

The footage is so surreal. I couldn't even imagine what these poor people are going through.

RP, seeing my old street under water made me sick to my stomach. I recognized the surnames of some of the business owners they interviewed as people I went to school with.

The club has set up an appeal via this link:
