  • I'm with the majority on this issue regarding the carbon tax scam, even though i voted labor and lean slightly left. However i didn't vote for a carbon tax because that was not on the agenda so my conscious is clear.

Anyone who thinks a carbon tax will do anything to the environment is clearly deluding themselves. The higher price will just be passed on to the consumer, middle australia and what's left of it will cop it the hardest. You cannot force capitalist to change their industries.

This will do nothing for the environment.

Here's an open letter from several leading economists calling for a carbon tax.

It might not be an article from such a reliable source as your cousin, but it's all I can do on short notice. /rolleyes

        Chook.

So what Chook, one ****ing economist agrees with you, that REALLY means ALL economists do. I proved the point that not ALL think its a good idea which was your point.

I bet you are still telling the world that ALL scientists believe in Global Warming too.

Principals are one thing mate, but disonhonorable ones are that, dishonorable.

        • Another option is to ban all yuccas from bogan landscaping. For some reason bogans think a yucca here, a dracenaena there compliments there bulging mcmansion. Like the eaveless edifice, yuccas are as "architectural" as a coathanger. I think years of bogan family holdidays to Bali has cemented the bali kitsch decor to the point where i attended a barbie in Balmain and the backyard was a replica Bivouak type pergola replete with praying buddhas and incense.
Make it illegal to plant anything but bird loving, carbon neutralising, water wise natives and you will have your arcadia

I stand corrected and change my statement to say most economists believe a carbon tax is the best way forward.

However KB you have proved jack shit. You claim your cousin (leading economist for macquarie) says it's a joke, care to back that up with more than your claim?

And don't talk to me about principles. I don't know you and therefore would not call into question your principles, and as you don't know me I expect you to do the same.

            Chook.

            • I certainly don't question all your pricipals Chook and maybe its the wrong term to use.
But the proposed Carbon tax is a dishonorable ideal, maybe not in its basic theory, but no one has proven that it will do anything to better the environment. Some people believe it will, fine but thats not proof, alot of people believe its nothing more than a distribution of wealth and thats how it seems to me.

Its dishonorable in my opinion because I don't believe it will do anything for the environment at all and instead have tragic consequences on the enconomy. Its dishonorable in fact because there is no substance to the claims that the labor government's claims of why it is good.
All there is is more statements telling us how good it is without reason why. Given the track record of Gillard and friends, they can't be believed.

Fair enough. We will agree to disagree on the carbon tax.

It's a religion to some. So in keeping with that, people who believe the bullshit can pay the carbon tax. Like tithing to a church.

Call it whatever you want, you'll pay it whether you make cute little analogies about it or not.

No. Retard, It will be a federal tax. Everyone will contribute.

                        • This is going to be my last post on this matter.

If one of the people espousing the need for this tax can show me, with scientific figures or just straight maths if you want, how the potential ruination of this country's economy will lower the temperature of this planet in any significant way then I will gladly stop complaining and pay the tax when it comes in.

And I will not countenance the facile argument that if we do it then everyone will follow our lead because that is, as I wrote, a fallacy.

I surmise that no-one will be able to provide that for me. And will resort to libel like certain, now warned, anonymous posters.

You couldn't load that question up more even if you had a magazine attached to it so it's a pointless exercise trying to answer it.

It comes down to this. You either believe mankind is contributing to global warming through the increase of CO2 emissions and as such we all need to pay our share to reduce those emissions. Or you don't believe in man made global warming and as such no argument will convince you otherwise.

                            Chook.

                              Thats a real shame.
I love listening to bogans that think an arguement is valid cos they structure formal syntax around "I". Like Alan Jones. I think this a deplorable tax. Like madduke i shan't countenance

Swing and a miss chuckles, I live in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. Bogans are from Melbourne.

On Chook, I accept fully that mankind needs to cut back on the toxic shit that collectively that they put out but Carbon Dioxide ain't it. Stuff like Mercury (used in gold mines), Cadmium (stuff in batteries), Cromium (what they use to make steel into stainless steel) and even Carbon Monoxide are pollutants, Carbon Dioxide isn't.

I say this, not that many would care, if the communist green filth had said "we're putting a tax on the shit that cars spew into the air i.e. Carbon Monoxide" then I would be all for it. But unfortunately, they made the mistake of taxing something that can be "abated" by planting more trees.
