Help With Program to Edit/Convert Video Files

Greetings all. I have been given a video camera and I'm now on the hunt for some software that can edit video and also convert to other formats. I don't mind paying for something decent, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Don't pay. There are plenty of "freebies" around.

A lot depends on whether the video camera is analog or HD tape or HD disc.

Plenty of trials around so probably best to check the features you need and then download the trial.
