Fred and I chat from time to time,

I spoke to him last year about why we would struggle this year in my opinion.

Same for the majority of people who ever read a post of mine last year.

But Fred, I don't agree with the Smith axe.
If ever you want a bloke to clean out a club it is him.
I see Smith as a guy who came to the roosters and wanted to start fresh.
Not play the bad guy, not play the school teacher.
He wanted to make some friends,go out to lunch with sponsors.

But you can't escape the past.
More importantly, you cannot escape from yourself.
You cannot escape from yourself ever.

And now, we are in a situation where the heat is on Brian, and now he will do what he always does.
He will become the bad guy and the team will improve.
We won't win anything but he will start to plan for the future and make some " unpopular " decisions.

My beef was the duration of the contract. Not the appointment.

Given we have gotten rid of a few coaches in quick succession, there is no way anyone would want to coach the roosters unless there was some financial security. In offering Smith a 4 year contract they are doing just that. It does not mean 4 years. It means financial security. They could piss him off at any time with a pay out.

I am sure they could have got Smith to accept a year by year contract by paying him twice as much.
