  • David Bowie....

RIP to the great man who passed away a week ago.

To me, the second greatest songwriter from the UK after Lennon.

The original version of Space Oddity from 1969

Reminds us about our own mortality, news like this.
I won't forget the glass spiders gig at the new entertainment centre.
Love to know your top three bowie songs Parky.
I reckon Life on Mars, Lets dance, and ................man I could pick a lot after that, but a lot of it depends on what was going on when you heard it.
Bowie was a lot more than music.

      Time may change me.

            But I can't trace time!

            (1) Space Oddity
            (2) Starman (probably for the same reason you love Life on Mars, Ziggy Stardust..
As for my 3rd favourite I cannot even guess and I would have to get back to you but probably right now "The man who sold the world'.

So true Eddie a lot of the Bowie tunes would depend on when you heard them as his lyrics and theatrical sense made many of his songs masterpieces and so different to many of his contemporaries in the sense he could reinvent himself and not be pegged into a particular musical genre.

"Heroes" I am sure I heard it after we won the GF in 2002 so I that song is pretty special too........for different reasons.

For me when I was a kid the greatest thing Bowie could do as a musician and songwriter was he made me feel like I was part of the song by magically putting me in it

I'm just completely shattered as David Bowie was my all time favourite male singer. I had no idea of his passing until a cousin messaged me late last Monday night. I used to have a very large poster on my bedroom wall which freaked my parents out because Mum was convinced his eyes were watching her move around the house. Starman was the first song of his I loved and I was only 5 when it became a hit. It's almost like a nursery rhyme. David went through so many phases and personas in his career and every time I read about how he touched someone's life, particularly someone who was struggling with their own identity, it's very inspirational. As Madonna said, he made it ok for people to be different. I was lucky enough to see him the last time he toured Australia. I was watching the RAGE special from the ABC and there was an interview with Molly from Countdown and he was very concerned for the welfare of the 2 indigenous dancers from the Let's Dance film clip when Molly explained the media frenzy that surrounded them for ages afterwards. RIP also to the male dancer who is no longer alive either. You made Australia look amazing on the world stage.

This one is for you MR and I'm going to post some more of my favourites

These are the real treasures: Love this rockin' version of Heroes. I can be Queen, David and you can be King.

The lyrics to this one give me the chills "I absolutely love you"

Written for his lovely wife Iman

Loved this one as it was just plain wacky compared to everything else at the time:
