  • RIP Jon English

Passed away this morn and I feel like a piece of my youth has been taken away with it.

One of my absolute fave Aussie artists who was a fantastic live performer. I still have my double live albumn "Beating the Boards" and play it regularly on the turntable, even though I've burned a copy to CD and then to ITunes. Also have a couple more of his on vinyl that I'll have to dig out - Calm Before the Storm being one of them.

I was meant to be seeing he and Peter Cupples on a harbour cruise on 10 Jan this year, but as I was on my way to meet my friend I received news from my father's nursing home that my dad had passed away so of course my plans quickly changed and I couldn't make it. I reckoned at the time it was Dad's revenge for having to listen to his music full ball when I lived at home. The friend I was going with still went and actually had some pics taken with him and had nothing but praise for how down to earth and friendly he was.

So sad to think I'll never again get the chance to see him live. The last time was in Bathurst a few years ago when he was touring with a performance called The Rock Show and it was brilliant. There is DVD of one of the 2012 performances and by chance a friend and I watched it only 2 weeks ago as she had a copy. I bought one online this morning, in memory.

Rest in peace Jon, and condolences to your family and friends. You were a top bloke and brilliant musician and performer.

I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's passing NC. I know we chatted in the past of taking care of elderly parents and you have my deepest sympathy. I'm sending you a hug. It's 10 years since I lost my Mum and it feels like 10 minutes sometimes.

As for the talented Mr English, he sat with us at the 1983 grand final as he was a Parra fan like Mum and he signed our programme for us. I think that was just as thrilling as it was my first grand final game. I was 14 at the time. Horrie Hastings messaged me today to tell me and he said that "Turn The Page" came up on the radio while he was messaging me.

Thanks RW&B, I appreciate your hugs and kind words

To be honest, it was a relief when Dad finally passed, as he had been wanting it for quite a while. It was hard to look into his eyes each week to see the pain and distress he was in. He was so frail and had no quality of life whatsoever, and you never want your loved ones to be living as a vacant shell of what they once were, unable to do anything for themselves.

He is with Mum now and he will be happy, although I'm not sure she will be, having had over 10 years without having to wait on him hand and foot.

Funny about Turn the Page coming on the radio, when I had to cancel the Jon English cruise my friend said that's what Dad had done, Turned the Page Which is now what Jon himself has done ...

I've had 'I hope it Turns out Right for You' and 'Carmela' in my head all day. Not sure why it's those ones instead of many others, but there you go.

Was so sad to hear the news when I turned on the television this morning, I waited to hear a bit more in the next news bulletin before I messaged redwhiteblue, it was actually in the car yesterday that I heard Turn the Page, I just thought that was so spooky as I haven't heard that song for a long while and the next day Jon had passed on. Turn the Page and Hollywood Seven are my favourites along with Hot Town and Get Your Love Right
It was a real shock hearing the news today

Yes and sorry to hear about the passing of your father also novice chook. I was discussing with redwhiteblue the other day about my elderly aunty who I just visited while i'm up the coast, she is 94 now, her body is so frail but her mind is still as sharp as a tack, she has been in the home now for about 6 years and knows her time is just about up, we had an extra long embrace this time before leaving as I think we both knew it is probably the last time we may see each other. Upon leaving she said, you will always be my little boy, I burst out crying once I left the nursing home, she was so good to me when I was growing up, it is something I will never forget.

Well that is even spookier then as it's rare to hear Jon's music much these days. Six Ribbons always made me cry. Jon always sang with so much emotion in his voice.

I told you about David Bowie and then Glenn Frey constantly coming up on my itunes shuffle at random times even though there are 7,960 songs currently on the shuffle. If Bowie comes on, then Frey will come on a few tracks later..it's like they both want my attention..I love all my boys equally..

If I we're a minstrel, I'd sing you 6 love songs, to tell the whole world of the love that we share.......
