Thanks for sharing that piece of music trivia Mr Walker. IMHO Cake's cover of "I will survive", is one of the all time great covers. They also covered Willie Nelson on their album Fashion Nugget. Worth a listen.

Hi Red and a warm welcome to this wonderful thread. I must admit having not seeing you comment here previously that my 1st thought was Have I missed something, has someone said something they shouldn’t have and has someone made some sort of complaint But looking back sees this surely would not be the case as nothing remotely offensive or that breaches the forums rules has been posted.

I quite like Cakes cover of I Will Survive but from the moment I heard it many years ago. I thought they were taking the piss out of the song. Whilst I listened to the song you posted I am not at all familiar with the original.

I really think Cake were sincere when they covered "I will survive". They love a cover. "Guitar Man" by Bread is another great example.

Perhaps I should have elaborated on the initial story a little further I was also told in that conversation that Cake have categorically denied they were taking the piss out of I Will Survive.

Talking about taking the piss out of songs by way of cover this is one to this day I’m still trying to work out whether or not REM were doing just that.

Also on this song I recall listening to this and my Daughter was about 2&1/2 at the time was also in the room with me listening to it. Almost at the same time when the crowd applauds and cheers my Daughter unexpectedly yells out Yaaayyy and starts clapping as well It really was the cutest thing.
