  • "Don't believe the experts - believe us" Joe Hockey. LMAO

First of all the economists are wrong.

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news...-1226094670407

THE federal opposition insists its direct action plan to tackle climate change is better than Labor's carbon tax, despite criticism from economists.

A study by the Economic Society of Australia, released this week, found 60 per cent of economists surveyed supported the government's move to put a price on carbon from mid 2012.

By contrast, 85 per cent opposed the opposition's direct action plan which aims to fight climate change through initiatives such as planting more trees.

Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey rejected the survey today, saying economists often had differing opinions and could be wrong.

"There has been consensus among economists in the past. They agreed that the government should have spent a lot of money on the GFC, we argued it was too much and we've been proven right and they've been proven wrong," he told reporters in Cairns.

"I have a great deal of respect for economists but at the end of the day they are not elected to run the country."

Next the miners themselves are wrong.

Earlier, Mr Hockey also dismissed a claim from Macarthur Coal chairman Keith De Lacy that mines could absorb the cost of the carbon tax in the short term.

Mr De Lacy, a former Queensland Labor premier and outspoken critic of the tax, also said has said he doesn't expect job losses "at this stage".

"The productive mines can absorb the carbon tax while the price is where it is, with demand stronger than supply, but if the price falls back to long-term averages then that is when the mines will suffer," he told The Australian.

But Mr Hockey said Mr De Lacy was trying to talk up his company's prospects in the face of a $4.7 billion takeover offer from US-based Peabody Energy.

"He's wrong, his own coal association says it's going to cost jobs ... He's got an offer from someone for his company and he's saying 'hang on, it's not that bad'.

"He wants to sell his company, he wants to talk up the assets," he told ABC Radio.

"He's not going to be frank about it ... he's not going to say the coal industry is in trouble."

When asked why he is a fat bastard Mr Hockey reportedly blasted commie greenies for trying to redistribute the food intake of hard working ordinary Australians; "at the end of the day, nutritionists have not absolutely proved that eating multiple pies for breakfast has a direct effect on body fat".

Hockey is one of the few smart cookies in politics and I wouldn't dismiss anything he says. Unfortunately though, he is very much like Peter Costello in putting his own agendas ahead of the best interest of the nation.

In regards to his comments, it is no secret that trees are a store of carbon and natures way of balancing carbon levels.

Coal prices have gone up 600% in the last 10 years off the back of China. If the China bubble busts then coal prices will get hammered and the carbon tax could prove the difference between companies choosing to mine in Australia or elsewhere.

meh...Keating was the only politician who was both a smart cookie and wanting to serve the best interest of the nation. Yet the media similarly shot him down at every opportunity.

Howard promises not to raise interest rates, and the media know interest rates are independently managed by the RBA yet they blow smoke up his arse and ensure he gets re-elected. At least Hockey has the decency to admit he has no direct control interest rates.

The media are the selfish fools.

On the contrary, elections are decided by the media. It was you and your useless buddies, the gutter journalists, that didn't question Howard's ludicrous claims of "no interest rate rises". You are more interested in whether Hockey hands out detailed figures before or after a presentation, because it makes for a more interesting article.

Stick with your Branjelina articles and making shit up about the roosters.
