He took it back to the electorat and was open about it. It was killed by the voters in the previous election and reborn by the voters in the next. Julia wont even admit she lied and refuses to take it back to us. I voted for her for the last time.

Unfortunately the majority of people had no idea of how much the GST would hurt them.Most had no idea that it would be on just about everything that that they used or consumed everyday ie: power, insurance, fuel etc. The pollies pushed the trolley that we would be better off because other taxes would eventually abolished like sales/wholesale tax (still waiting for that to happen).
The fact remained that the government needed more tax revenue. How were they going to get more? More taxes on the people! Not rocket science people.
Howard spruked that ALL the GST went to the States so it was their fault if they ran out of funds. What he neglected to also add was that the Federal Government then got to keep ALL the income tax revenue & not divide it up amongst the States every year. THAT is how a large surplus was achieved!
And lets not forget that in Honest John's last term he kept telling the press that he had a mandate to push through his reforms, when in fact, he lost seats from his previous term.

Tony Abbott supported Turnbull for Carbon trading when it was first mooted.

Both sides are guilty of back flips.

Good to see people talking about it & not follow any one party/candidate blindly.

The bottom line is ALL politicians lie, it is their dna.

When the gst was introduced, it added to my workload via extra paperwork. As if it not hard enough running a small business, this extra paperwork basically turned us into glorified tax collectors for the government, without any sort of compensation for the extra time and effort. But he did go to an election with this policy. The difference with the carbon tax debate, is that this policy was not taken to the election. Right or wrong, the people had a say.

The current crop of politicians, on both sides, have to be the worst I have witnessed in recent memory. They are even giving the Whitlam years a run for their money. Have voted for both sides over the years. I may sit on the conservative side of the fence at the moment, but seeing how close Abbott got to running the country shocked me. The guy is a tool. It also showed that Gillard is also there by default.

The stocks are pretty low on both sides. And adding the Greens into the mix just scares me. You roughly know what to expect from Labor and Liberal, but the Greens are the loose cannons of the bunch. Their ideas and ideals are from another planet! (Milne and especially Lee 'don't call me a communist, but I really am' Rhiannon are ultra radical fruitloops. Hansen-Young has no idea. Brown has become a media whore with his new found celebrity status). Indications from the last election, is that Labor lost more votes to the Greens than to Liberals.

Right now:
We have Fabian Julia telling porkies, stuffing up the refugee Timor/Xmas Island/detension riots/Malaysia 5:1 ratio exchange mess, trying to justify irrational spending on failed govt schemes by both Rudd and herself, spruking nbn/carbon tax/keeping coal industry 'safe'/staying 'friendly' with unions that gave her the leadership etc. The role of Swanny still baffles me, this guy cannot run a chook raffle! Albernese is an anoying joke, and needs to see a dentist. Rudd just wants a UN job. The rest of the front bench are useless. New blood needed. Smith or Shorten would do a better job. Shorten looked impressive on Q&A on the ABC.

Abbott without any policies apart from opposing the tax, although his version is not going to work. Has gained popularity without actually doing anything. He has the people skills of a brick wall. Hockey & Pine are annoying. J Bishop has no idea. Others on the front bench are hopeless. Turnball is the only logical choice. Wyat Roy in a decades time.

Brown having a hand in trying to destroy the live export trade, and wants to shut down the coal and uranium industries. Trying to totally destroy our way of life. Stating that wind and solar can give us 25% of our current energy requirements, but cannot answer where the other 75% will come from. After the next election, the Greens will follow the Democrats into extinction!

Independents, knowing they have no hope of being re-elected.


So how many votes does a Tassie need to get a seat in the senate? 10,000 ish? So an average crowd at the SFS, numbers-wise gets you a seat! These feral fruitloops are imposters in parliament! And the amount of leverage they have at the moment, especially influencing Labor, is quite shocking.

Lets just make Tasmania "Xmas Island mark2". We don't need to pump up the Malaysian economy, we already financially support enough of our neighbours with massive handouts. Just send the refugees to Tasmania, as we in NSW already financially contribute to their mere existence!

We live in interesting times.

However Govt is there to look after the people in our society who need it most and the simple fact is the Libs/National only look after those with commercial or capitalist interests so Ill stick with Left for the time being.

A simple example is the our State Govt ( VIC) has changed and the Libs are in and one of their first moves was to cut from the local libraries $ 150K, over 4 thats alot of books and internet facilities.

But they dont give a fark.

Perhaps we can coin a new phrase in Australia -
"That guy's a Gillard"
"I was sold a Gillard on that deal"
"If you don't study hard enough you'll grow up being a Gillard".

I disagree with your comments and it may just be the way I read them, but the government is there to look after all the people in the country not just those in need.

As well as that, tell me who the labor goverment is looking after (Apart from themselves and the greens).

I think both sides miss the people that need looking after the most, those that work hard and provide for the rest of the country

ALMOST a year after becoming Prime Minister, voters do not approve of Julia Gillard and would kick Labor out of power if an election were held today.
