Little story......make of it what you will...

Last sat attended Aust/SA at ANZ private suite. Host was CEO of aust arm of large international media company (not news ltd lol). Typically, he had a retinue of friends and proffessionals eager for his ear. All were doctors, lawyers, etc and all had attended GPS schools so the conversation was hermetic and gay.
In walks Ricky Stuart with Paul Kent. CEO was all over stuart, while Kent was left to mingle. Kent was immediately on the front foot,offering his views on everything from the NRL to climate change. He was boorish, ignorant and loud. Everyone in the room was like , "who the fark is this bloke". The q was, why is stuart hanging with this trash, whats he getting out of it? At one point stuart was asked to nominate his favorite players etc and Kent managed to hijack the conversation. Stuart is no mug and it was obvious he was tolerating Kent......but why?

At the end of the night numbers were swapped and Kent secured a future dinner with the CEO and stuart.
Obviously the manipulation of news narratives by news ltd is now well known. But it was still interesting to see how a prominent sporting personality and a corporate heavyweight grovelled at the feet of a news ltd henchman.

I first met Kent at the 2002 season launch. Hung off Politis like a mad smell. Sniffed for a story. back then he had potential to maybe make a go of being a sports writer. These days he echos the bullshit that beetroot face Editor of large arses makes daily.

Despite my hatred for his employer Ive always found Paul Kent to be worthwhile to read; he says some good stuff on the back page too. League doesnt have enough journo's who speak their mind, when compared to AFL.

Plus he did run round with the Gosford Townies, then the Ourimbah Maggies so at least he's played the game

I remember Kent had an arguement with Mark Geyer on one of the footy show panels. Can't remember which one. Anyway M.G. gave it to him and said something like "when I played for the Unima Bunnies I used to love smashing you!" Great TV.
