I never realized the cure were still performing as late as 2000.
    It would've been cool.
    Where did they play?

    [/QUOTE

The Cure were still playing gigs until covid hit. They were playing in Australia in 2017 or 18

The gig in 2000 was at Sydney Entertainment Centre. We had awesome seats right in front of the stage 1st row just above the floor area. It was a top night after the concert we ended up in a pub in Surry Hills till the early hours of the morning.

      Cool.
I only went there twice. David Bowie on his glass spiders tour and Jimmy Barnes supported by the stray cats.
I'm told it has been demolished.

Yes Eddie, it was demolished quite a few years ago. Trying to think who i have seen there . Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Tina Arena., Olivia Newton John, Kylie Minogue, Elton John ,thats off the top of my head, may have been more.

        • The only act I regret not seeing is George Michael when he performed at the stadium. I was living so close by at Charing Cross too at the time but the stress of running my business was making me so sick and run down I don’t think I would have had the strength to enjoy it. So I dance (or get melancholy if one of his ballads comes up) daily to his music anyway..Ones I also would have loved to have seen just off the top of my head now are George Harrison, ELO, Hall & Oates, ZZ Top, The Eagles, Don Henley solo, ABBA, The Cranberries, Nirvana, Bonnie Raitt, The Police, Queen, Pink Floyd and REM. Mum saw the Rolling Stones when she was expecting me..EXPLAINS A LOT! She took us to every act who ever came to Warwick (usually Slim Dusty, Reg Lindsay and once even Jamie Redfern at our church hall)

I also swear I went to a New Year’s Eve concert in the early 1990’s with at least 4 acts on the bill as Split Enz performed, there were a couple of acts in between like The Chantoozies, possibly Diesel or James Reyne and then the Split End guys came out at the end and performed as Crowded House. Champagne was also on the bill in those nasty plastic cups..hence my vague recollection. That was at the Sydney Entertainment Centre also..I think…or somewhere down that way? Yikes…!

2005 & 2006 was a time lot of upsetting illnesses. I had tickets to see both U2 and Kylie. Both gigs were cancelled and rescheduled as Kylie had her breast cancer diagnosis and The Edge’s daughter was diagnosed with leukemia . Mum’s health started declining that year too. Then in 2006 the concerts were both scheduled on the SAME NIGHT, 11 November 2006 so I sold my ticket to the U2 concert to a work mate who follows the Roosters and gave the Kylie ticket to a friend who used to get up at 5am to drive me to the airport every time I had to fly home to Queensland to see Mum so I didn’t bother with either of those shows as I’d seen both before. I also saw Pearl Jam at the Sydney Entertainment Centre with my God daughter but she must have had the tickets at the time. Here is the playlist from that gig:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7cr...Vp1RZ22Px1NEaZ R82xtjvBdHyV5kss

The Saints & Jimmy Barnes Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Must have been May 1986 as it was the Working Class Man tour and that album was released at the end of 1985. It must have been May as it was Mother’s Day weekend and my friend’s mother drove us from Warwick to Brisbane and back in the one night so I bought her flowers to say thank you. She was able to visit with her own mother in Brisbane whilst the concert was on rather than sit through all that screaming with us girls. (Jimmy was the one doing the screaming ) No ticket stub so don’t know how much we paid

Mick Jagger Brisbane Entertainment Centre September 22 1988 don't have the stub. David Bowie made an appearance..on the big screen during Dancing in the Streets..

These are just from the saved ticket stubs I have in my treasure box (I have a separate Roosters box of treasures and signed memorabilia worth quite a bit. As no one in my family follows the Roosters, If some of you are nice to me, I may deign to leave them to you in my Will). As they call me the queen of spreadsheets at work as I do my due diligence on everything I do, I’ve included the ticket prices and also the tour names, support acts etc.

Notable exceptions from this list without ticket stubs are concerts at The Metro & Enmore Theatre as I saw Alex Lloyd, The Whitlams & Powderfinger (several times for those 3 acts), Blondie, Placebo, The Bangles, Midnight Oil. Also Homebake in the Domain used to be great. There was a free concert in Parramatta park with Danielle Spencer, Alex Loyd and Paul Mac (he and his choir got stuck in traffic coming from the airport so Alex played first) I also saw Olivia Newton-John and Daryl Braithwaite at the beginning of 2012 at the Regent whilst I was living in Melbourne for a year and took my God daughter for her birthday. Pub gigs aren’t included but I did see Steve Prestwich at the Annandale Hotel (he gave me an autographed set of his drumsticks with the offical Cold Chisel stamp on them, again only leaving those in my Will to those who are nice to me) and Shaun Mullins at a pub in Parra also for a Triple M promotion. One of my friends also took me out to Homebush in 2006 to see Bette Midler after Mum died on 29 June of that year and I remember we went on the ferry and I paid over $200 to see her but I didn’t care as she was one of Mum’s favourites and Bette had not been to Australia in 26 years. There was also Chisel at the Hordern thrown in there somewhere too in the early 2000’s and a Nick Cave ballet at the Opera House.

Cyndi Lauper Wednesday 17 October 1989 $37.00 Sydney Entertainment Centre

Eurythmics (note to my younger self, don’t drink so much BEFORE a concert at the Pump House prior, and on a Monday too!) Monday 4 December 1989 $39.90 Sydney Entertainment Centre

There was the Bee Gees ‘One’ tour in here somewhere around this time but again, visiting the Pump House prior…no ticket stub..I do still listen to that album..

Tracy Chapman Wednesday 31 January 1990 $38.40 Sydney Entertainment Centre

(I’d gone with him to see Eartha as the State Theatre is right next door to where the Gowings building still is. We found each other again after 30 years thanks to LinkedIn so we can now chat all the time)

Simply Red Friday 18 September 1992 Sydney Entertainment Centre - cost me nothing as I was working at Gowings at the time (most of these concerts during this time were all of us retail gang going out all together) and Mr Gowing gave the tickets to me as a bonus as he said I was the first cashier to be promoted to the buying office (thanks to him and his faith in me, I ended up running my own gift shop for 3 years geared towards men and that’s how I met Hawkeye, Horrie Hastings and his partner, Mario and his wife Gabby, Shannon the Cannon, the lovely family from Port Macquarie, Pearce’s Fantasy, The Phantom, Fat Controller, and some Andy bloke amongst notable others…to this day I thank them all for coming in, making themselves known to me and supporting my little shop)

Janet Jackson Saturday 11 February 1995 $61.90 Sydney Entertainment Centre we’d had a slight prang on Clovelly Road on the way to the concert as my friend ran into the back of a someone’s car but he was lovely about it and no real damage was done to either car..again Pump House before and after gig..well I wasn’t the one driving!

          M People Thursday 30 March 1995 $39.90 Hordern

ARIA awards Monday 2 October 1995 Sydney Entertainment Centre - my God daughter took me as a late birthday present from the family. Neil Diamond Monday 1 April 1996 $61.80 Sydney Entertainment Centre

Savage Garden Monday 5 May 1997 $22 Enmore Theatre

Elton John & Bill Joel Saturday 14 March 1998 $68 SCG

Kylie Thursday 25 June 1998 State Theatre - free ticket as my niece was friends with one of the back up dancers and ended up performing with Kylie herself at the closing ceremony of the Para Olympics in 2000. I got to meet Kylie’s mum but not Kylie herself. We drove the dancer back to his hotel up at the cross as well. He now choreograph’s her shows and he signed a Kylie postcard for me way back when.

1999 - Ironically I don’t seem to have attended concerts during this year so no partying like it’s 1999? A lot of illness and family troubles that year..

Human Nature with special guest Tina Cousins 8 April 2000 State Theatre - another free ticket as my niece went on tour with Tina as her back up dancer and is one of her videos filmed here in Sydney. Can’t remember which one but will post when I do find it.

Tim Rice’s Musical Spectacular featuring my childhood crush David Essex Thursday 4 May 2000 $78 Sydney Entertainment Centre oh my goodness. Just googled this one as I couldn’t remember who else was performing and it was the remaining members of INXS..how could I have not remembered that? Oh that’s right..I think I discovered gin and tonic in those days..note to younger self..gin is a depressant!

Robbie Williams Thursday 8 November 2001 $75.33 Sydney Entertainment Centre Saw him again in later years at the stadium again with my God daughter. Duran Duran were the support act and were miles ahead of Robbie..Machine Gun Fellatio were the obligatory Australian support act.

**Inserts a lot of pub gigs and Metro Theatre gigs during this time** also Rumba presented by 2DayFM at Homebush with all those big acts like The Tee Party, Nickeback, Pink and Bon Jovi and also the Tripe M one with Billy Idol in 2002. He was staying at Double Bay and I said to my God daughter who was with me, maybe he can drop me back to Rose Bay?! No she said firmly, you are coming home to Mum & Dad’s..(my sister and brother in law..) she is such a bossy God daughter/niece..don’t know where she gets that from?

David Bowie (ooh spooky how just came up my shuffle as soon as I typed his name, live version of Modern Love for anyone interested) supported by Something For Kate Friday 20 February 2004. Sadly do not have the tickets stub. Sydney Entertainment Centre

          Powderfinger Monday 24 January 2005 $69.20 Hordern

Rogue Traders and Kelly Clarkson Sunday 13 November 2005 $79.00 Sydney Entertainment Centre

Backstreet Boys Monday 30 January 2006 $90.20 Sydney Entertainment Centre

Stevie Nicks Gold Dust Tour (support act Vanessa Carlton whom I don’t remember sadly) Saturday 25 February 2006 $85 Sydney Entertainment Centre

Simple Minds Monday 8 May 2006 $129 State Theatre…dang that Jim Kerr was mighty sexy up close in such a small venue..Chrissie Hynde..I curtesy to you for being married to him once..at one stage I remember them being bigger than U2 yet they played in such a small venue that time around…lucky us…

The Supremes (without Diana Ross) Saturday 23 September 2006 $90 Capitol Theatre I got dragged to all sorts of concerts and footy games at the back end of 2006 as my friends dragged me out a lot after Mum died and plied me with alcohol!

Chris Isaak supported by Alex Lloyd (whom we missed because someone was in the bar too long…oh dear..) Wednesday 15 November 2006 $99.90 (not worth it, I didn’t like Chris being so sleazy to VERY young girls in the audience) Capitol Theatre. Worst hangover ever..I really think that’s when my gallstones started forming..note to younger self..going to the BP servo on Old South Head Road whilst getting the munchies on the way home from concerts is not good…

Glen Frey with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Friday 1 March 2013 $159 Sydney Opera House

The Whitlams with Sydney Symphony Orchestra Thursday 15 August 2013 $85 Sydney Opera House

Bon Jovi Saturday 14 December 2013 $155 (we had the 2013 grand final fan day that month I think when we could go and get photo with the trophy. I have one with SKD) Homebush (loved going out there that year. Got the happiness trifecta - Roosters minor premiership, major premiership and a Bon Jovi concert) …

which leads us to Wednesday 19 February 2014 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. $129.40..Roosters won the World Cup Challenge a few days later against Wigan. The boys at the membership office took my photo with that trophy too over at the stadium plus I got invited with Mario and his wife Gabby to the NRL season launch at the beginning of the 2014 season with 18 other members. They took us over in a mini bus and Jessica Mauboy performed for us…Oh I also met John Sutton that night….oh dear…note to younger self..nothing good comes from meeting Rabbitohs players…

Peter Cetera and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Saturday afternoon matinee State Theatre December 2015. No ticket stub..notice how the symphony took over in later years…LOL..its called ageing…

Ok big gap in years now…ill health amongst family and loved ones and work stress took its toll

Praying For Time..George Michael Tribute with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Saturday 8 July 2017 $89 Opera House which was planned before his passing…which made it even more special and poignant for the performers who included Diesel..Fresh out of hospital I was but I dragged myself to this one with a friend..matinee performance thank goodness.and yes I have the T-shirt and program from it..

Nothing Compares 2 Prince Friday 27 April 2018 $155 - another Opera House tribute with members from The New Power Generation, The Family and The Revolution, his collaborators and band members. Prince’s sister Tyka (a very shy gentle girl, talented in her own right) also performed but naturally broke down singing Purple Rain, so the whole audience joined in to help her..so that was the last of my ticket stubs and what a way to finish..for now…rack off Covid...ALL variants...

footnote..whilst I was typing this post out, the following acts have come up on my random shuffle in this order going backward from the 11,199 songs on my iTunes: Simple Minds, Janet Jackson, George Michael, David Essex, Elton John, Roxette, Neil Diamond, several David Bowie songs, Madonna, Savage Garden, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, ELO, Billy Joel, Tina Arena, Hall & Oates, Powderfinger, Duran Duran, Bee Gees, Eurythmics, Bon Jovi, REM, Human Nature & Barnes
Last edited by redwhiteblue; 05-22-2022, 03:16 PM. Reason: I forgot Peter Andre...shocking I know!

          • I wasn't really a fan of The Cure until I read that Robert Smith brought his mother out to Australia on tour and took her everywhere so I softened my stance..

I loved these songs of theirs:

              • The State Theatre is one of the most lovely and intimate venues for a concert and so much better than the cavernous Entertainment Centre at the time, mind you though if it was a big act and you wanted a big crowd you had to perform at the Entertainment Centre. I also love the Enmore Theatre as a concert venue, seen so many great acts at the State and Enmore theatre which is just up the road from where i live, might do a list later like redwhitblue did, seen quite a few acts also at The Opera House,The Basement, Souths Juniors, The Capital Theatre, The Horden and RHI and also the newer ICC which replaced the Entertainment Centre.

That would be fantastic and we can compare notes. Just about everyone I know claims to have been at the same U2 concert as me and also a few friends were at the Prince one at the SCG..a lot of the ones I saw are now on DVD or CD as live recordings.

I cant say i had been to the same U2 concert as you but we may have been at the same Cyndi Lauper concert at The Entertainment centre in 1989, not sure what night i went but it was a week day night.

Yep edit, it was the Wednesday night the 17th October.

Oh that's The Night To Remember tour!

I also saw Bananarama too at the Hordern for a dance party..no ticket stub for that..think it must have been 1989 or 1990.

Yes that is the one, wasn't really a Cyndi Lauper fan at the time but got a phone call at work from a friend who said they had a spare ticket to see Cyndi and if i wanted to come so i said yes, have seen Cyndi a few times since at the State Theatre, the RHI, the Enmore Theatre and at new ICC which she was on the same bill with Blondie.
