Annie’s Song is mine and my Mum’s favourite. Played at both my wedding and her funeral.

Oh MR..Annie's song is just perfect..I had a feeling it would be a favourite of yours..

I'm glad you got to see AC/DC for us both..LOL...love them so much but never did want to see them live..happy with watching them on telly

I went to New York for my 40th and my niece and I went to Strawberry Fields in Central Park around John Lennon's birthday which was in October and it was beautifully decorated. We went and paid our respects where the enteral flame is also, outside his Dakota apartment. I have some lovely photos. So that is the closest I got to a Beatle. I love this song written for him, again performed by Elton:

Yes Jeff Lynne is often considered as the fifth Beatle, so much of his music is so Beatles influenced and he did work closely with the members of the group later on. New World Record is my all time favourite album but you mentioned Eldorado and Out Of The Blue which are fantastic, i also love On The Third Day, Face The Music, Discovery , Time and have a very soft spot for Balance Of Power which is such an under rated album, the only album which i don't like much is Secret Messages. Jeff Lynne's last two albums under Jeff Lynne's ELO are very good, he is still in fine form, i just hope i get a chance to see him live.

Annie Lennox is one amazing woman, another person i would love to see live, whether it is her solo or with Dave Stewart.

At school, we were told we were not allowed to go to KISS concerts because it stood for Knights In Satan's Service...I kid you not...so one of my friends deliberately went and got tickets and went to Brisbane to go see them...

Oh the beautiful Midnight Blue came up from your Face The Music album just before I got your text message tonight...

        • when my sister took me to see Elton in 1984, it was because of this song. I was very annoyed because he played it in quite an upbeat manner as part of a medley...I wanted the sad maudlin version.. I still have the programme.

That is such a pretty song Eddie and thanks for posting it. As much as I love my classic rock music, I am quite partial to gentle folk songs, country and easy listening from the 60's & 70's. This one came up last night. Mum & I always enjoyed listening to Crystal Gayle:

                  • This is an English group called Starsailor. My niece is friends with one of the band and she took me backstage to meet them at the Metro. Here is their entire "Love Is Here" album. My favourite songs from this album are Coming Down, Good Souls & Lullaby. They did have a bit of a commercial hit with Four to the Floor in Australia but it's not on this album, which is quite melancholy.

                      Yep, you're right.

Does this qualify as a gentle folk song?

Why yes it does Eddie and I have that album! You have excellent taste.

                        This also qualifies:

Not really from my era but we had some fun singing along to this late last night I think by this stage I was on my 13th or was it 14th beer celebrating Leeds Uniteds survival in the Premier League.

                          Such a happy song

                          • Sorry to hear that about your father Horrie. I’m so grateful I had a kind and caring one. My favourite ABBA songs are the melancholy ones too - SOS and The Winner Takes It All. Got to love Dancing Queen though, which is musical genius especially the way it ascends to those high notes! Clearly I also need to find the time to listen to more ELO! A New World Record is also my favourite of theirs.

Great Elton song RWB. It always makes me sad and is a wonderful tribute. That trip to New York sounds very special. When I get to The UK one day I’m visiting the Abbey Road zebra crossing and making the trip to Liverpool. Luckily the hubby is a Beatles fan too.

Not really from my era either. I’m old but I’m not THAT old! I was still a toddler when they broke up. Still I’ve gone back and listened to a lot of 60’s music as it was a very important era in music history. That song is typical Macca, infectiously melodic, great bass lines and silly throw away lyrics.
