  • The late great Charley Pride, my fave of his songs. This was an appearance on the Marty Stuart show, a regular Sunday TV appointment for my Mum. You will see a 'traditional' country 5 piece band, with obligatory fiddle and pedal steel - all great players.

      • Cat Stevens wrote this song and also recorded it, many others have also recorded it including a great version by Rod Stewart and also a country version by Sheryl Crow but i love Keith Hampshire's version which i used to hear a lot on the radio back in the 70's .

I like some of your contributions Jack as country isn’t my usual choice of music, apart from John Denver of course. But my Mum enjoyed a lot of country music so it brings back a lot of memories to me from my childhood. She did like Kenny Rogers amongst others.

I wish I hadn't said the above now...

              1. Rockin Rod
              2. The Cat
              3. Sheryl
then a long gap to Hamps.

Didnt grab me HH and that is such a good song. Just being honest but diversity of opinion on music is only a good thing. Respect yours always.

True. Horrie (and AW and Eddie) always posts good stuff and we have a lot of common ground across genres. Whereas like I said country is a genre I generally don’t listen to so it’s good to get a taste of something different.

No its all good Jack, music is subjective, everyone has a different tastes. Keith's version was the only one i heard getting constant air play, think it was back around 1973 or so, heard Rods version a few times on the radio a few years later and i love Rod's version but Keith's version is the one that has stuck in my head over the years.

You make a good point. I think that often we associate a piece of music or song with a time/event in our lives, and that influences what resonates most with us.

Yes so true. Today in the car WS played Pseudo Echo's version of Funky Town, i thought to myself Lipps Inc's version is the one i like the most because i grew up with it at a younger age but also thought that Pseudo Echo bought the song to a whole new audience with a more upbeat, rockier version and i like their version but Lipps Inc is the one that i can associate it to at different times in my life, hearing it on radio or on different music shows or even on the dance floor and i still hear it now but rarely ever hear Pseudo's version played even though it was a big hit when it was released.

                              • A great power ballad by the Ronnies, who would have thought. Tiny ladies with great vocals, good production on this too. Reaches peak when the twins sing together, petfect harmony as you would expect.
