  • My diet.

On August 5th (my birthday) i had a BBQ at my grandparents with my family. On that day i had an eating competition with my cousin to see who can eat the most. Whatever one of us ate, the other had to eat until someone gave up. We ate for 3 hours non stop until i ate peanut brittle after peanut brittle until he gave up making me the winner. (I won $225)

On that day when i got home i weighed myself at 103.6kg and felt sick. I was previously 101.2 so i ate 2.4kg of food. Since then I've signed up to a gym and I've been watching what i eat and i hardly touch junk food at all anymore (i used to indulge in junk before bed).

I've trained hard and on my breaks at work i go for a half an hour walk. I do an hour of weights at the gym after work and at least an hour cardio at the gym also. Today i weigh in at 89.75kg, a loss of 13.85kg.

I was really happy when i saw 89kg so i thought I'd share my short story with you guys.

    P.S. I'm still going!

Well done Juiceman. Its bloody tough to lose weight. I think you are still a pretty young guy so you should be able to lose it pretty quickly. Actually between August and mid November 13.85kgs is very good. As you know you now need to try to stick to your new eating and exercise habits. Once you hit your goal weight/condition you can ease back but the key is not to get back into your old habits.

I had blown out to about 112kgs about 2.5 years ago and am now down to 86.5kgs. Its coming into winter here now so I am trying to be careful and change my exercise from my summer routine to a winter routine. Not sure about you but I find that cardio and diet are the most important and fruitful things to concentrate on. I'm eating a lot of fish and vegetables these days and loving it. Once you get off the junk food it is hard to believe that you ever loved it.

Anyway, good work man. Let us know how you progress.

Oh and one more tip - weigh yourself regularly. I try to check my weight at the same time every morning. I used to gain 5kgs without even knowing it. Checking the scales keeps you more aware of what is going on.

I offered to be a kidney donor last year but the doctors said I needed to lose weight to do it. I was 107kgs so I dieted and went to the gym. I got down to 101 in about 3 weeks but then out it all back on again and went UP to 109kg. I changed trainers at the gym and got away from the weights, concetrating on cardio and boxing. I ate normally again but this time in proper amounts instead of over eating. I also changed the times I ate. I walked every day for 3 kms in the morning and up Mt Taylor (in Canberra) in the evenings. I got down to 95kgs at the weekend of the GF in 2010 and had the operation the week after. Im a fat bastard again now and I am not comfortable so I am going to start again but this place has no hills and its cold here again now so I may just have to wait until next March.

              Potentially stupid question Ralph.

While I absolutely applaud you for a sacrifice like that, what happens if your remaining kidney packs in?

Then I end up on dialysis like the person I took off it. Its not about what happens to me later in life. Its about the difference I can make now.

Interesting story Ralph. Were you donating your kidney to a family member or was it just an act of kindness?

You mention it is cold where you are but shouldn't you be coming into some warmer weather or are you outside of Australia? The cold weather makes it very difficult to exercise and I find you start craving more comfort (high calorie) food as well.

It was a family member. We now live in Holland.

Good for you Ralph. That is a pretty massive thing to do. Hope you are enjoying some of that fine Dutch skunk!

Go with God as someone who believes in that stuff would say.
