US President Donald Trump is "very confident" there will be a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the year and he is OK if Australia or another nation beats the US to the breakthrough.

Trump said American and Australian scientists were working together on a vaccine.

Re Trump, well he hardly has any other friends on the international stage.

But Trump only loves one thing and that's himself, so he would toss us aside if we didn't serve a purpose for him as well.

Of course he is ok with it for now if someone else beats the USA to a vaccine or a cure, but I am sure he will take the credit for it and 100 percent.

Don't know about that. i think he means it when he says america first. i get that people are attracted to his anti-establishment style, but i'm not sure he's a friend of oz.i think the guy would rather down scale america's role as the world cop. that's okay, but it's not necessarily a good thing for us with a resurgent china.

So far, he's on our side, and has threatened anyone who attacks US allies.
US drones are guided from our outback, from Pine Gap it is believed. All those clear skies, and "million of miles of nothing".
There's an ANZUS corridor in the Pentagon.

The fact that ScoMo and Jenny were so warmly received by Donald and Melania recently at that State Visit, and Waltzing Matilda was sung at the State Dinner in the White House garden...gives some hope that we won't be abandoned in any time of need.

In many ways he is their creation, Fox News in the States was influential in his election (some say pivotal) and it is the reason that his popular support continues. Here Sky, The Australian (the Catholic Boys' Weekly) and the Tele are all strong supporters while elsewhere he is widely regarded as a buffoon, a nightmare well out of his depth, not worth considering except for the danger that he represents.
Again from Fox, and Packer before that, is the lie that the US is a force for good in the world when they have been almost continually at war since their inception. We love their popular culture which for the most part springs from an oppressed black minority but the power elite is The Great Satan that Third World countries suffer under. How much death and destruction does it and has it presided over? Assange showed us the casual massacre of a group of innocents in Bagdad but there has been death and destruction on a titanic scale since the Second World war including two Atom bombs on civilians. And didn't they play up when some arabs hit back on 9/11. What hypocrisy and Murdoch made people feel that it had happened to us here. We are now first in to help beat up some "enemy" whereas a century ago we voted twice (thanks to the Union movement) to not force our citizens to go to other nations' wars. That's where Murdoch's group think has got us and we should start thinking about the implications for our grandchildren.

Murdoch doesn't own any free to air tv stations in Australia? Certainly not ABC, 7, 9, 10 the majors.

The only terror Ray reads to his listeners on air is the terror that already exists in the world. Women, babies, and children screaming as they drowned when their people-smuggling boats crashed on the rocks at Christmas Island, for example.
Thank God for the Abbott govt, no more of that people-smuggling trade terror.

The populace being objectively informed?
There's ABC radio, ABC tv, ABC online...7 tv news, 7 online, 9 tv news, 9 online, 10 tv news, 10 online, MSN online, The Guardian online, Daily Mail online, Fox News online, many other newspapers online.

Anyone who claims to not have been objectively informed hasn't been trying hard enough.

Woolly thinking about Trump?
Trump has never been hidden, he's always been in in full view.
The American people elected Trump as their President under exactly the same system as they elected Obama President.
Trump was elected President to Make America Great Again, take the country back from the brigades or "political correctness", "tolerance-everyone in the world is a lovely person", "anchor babies", "sanctuary cities", "massive immigration", "illegal immigration is great", "climate change" madness etc.
Trump is Australia's only real hope of defending itself.
