We usually have a 'Christmas' with me in November to avoid all the Gold Coast crowds during the actual holidays but not this year. I have one auntie age 91 recovering from a broken hip, one sister with breast cancer and one in country Victoria in her 70's with diabetes.I'm telling her not to send me anything for Christmas this year but to donate to a local Melbourne charity instead. Quite a few of my friends have buried parents this year (one in the Phillipines and he contracted the virus too), another friend had her mother in hospital in Mumbai with barely any staff available to take care of her as she had a broken shoulder, diabetes and the virus as well. Altogether, this year I've lost 2 of my school teachers, my childhood neighbour who was like a family member, my sister's mother in law who was like another mother to me, our cousin was the woman from Our Lady of Lebanon church who contracted the virus (she had spent decades volunteering out there and this is how she dies) and one of my best friends buried her mother too. Like you I am grateful for every measure taken possible to keep others safe, not sneer at them. And those statistics blithely quoted by some on here as 'only' this and 'only' that contain friends and family of our fellow countrymen. Just because you don't know them personally doesn't give you the right to diminish their existence. Some on here don't know what it's like to bury a child, parent or sibling..bring on 2021..can't wait for this year to be over..
Thank you RWB for articulating my thoughts. I'm also very sorry for your losses and everything you've had to endure this year.

IMO, Those saying the stats are ‘only this and that’ are just selfish with no respect for anyone but themselves. If even themselves.

It's a tough job balancing the economy with lives. Alan Jones claims it was never a pandemic - well if that's the case, it's only because of government intervention. Without government intervention, I dare say there's a good chance we would have had a pandemic on our hands. But Jones doesn't mention that part, even though I know he's intelligent enough to know it's true. It doesn't suit his agenda.
My Mum finally lost her battle with cancer nearly 3 months ago now. She didn't catch Covid but she was at high risk becasue of the cancer. Because of Covid she was only allowed limited visitors in her final weeks. This was distressing, but unfortunately it was too much of a risk to other elderly residents having people coming in and out of the aged care facility.
Those people out there who say it's 'only 1% of people who will die and they're mostly old anyway', what if one of those 1% of people included your parent or close relative or friend? I agree Rented trackies, these people are selfish and only think of themselves or are politicising something which should not be politicised.

MightyRooster, I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing and I know you lost your father quite recently too in similar circumstances. I sincerely hope you and your family will remain safe and well and me and my family are sending you our very best wishes. You and I are the same age and I don't need to tell you that we are never the same after we lose a parent, particularly our mothers. Your children are very lucky and blessed to have such a compassionate lady as their mother.

Thanks so much RWB. It’s so hard to believe I’ll never see Mum or Dad again and like you say life will never ever be the same again. It’s hard for me to type this without getting upset so best I stop now. It really has been a terrible couple of years. I’ve only just recently been able to get back on here and start posting again. I’m just so grateful to be a Rooster’s girl and to have experienced some premiership back to back joy amongst all this sadness and loss. I’m also so glad you’re still here on the Chookpen.

Perhaps if you made your ill thought point without the need to be condescending with the hard man line I wouldn’t have called you stupid You are condescending towards myself Yet don’t like it when your analogy is shown to be completely over the top and cry that I’ve called you stupid. Not condescending at all. You were acting hard so I called you out on it. Simple really. You seem to like to call people names and belittle others in order to somehow validate your ill informed point. Although your use of the term is incorrect, it’s good to see you understand the term narcissistic. It’s unfortunate you don’t understand the term hypocritical.

All you righteous citizens on here tell me. How long are you prepared to live like this.

How long are you prepared to live in a manner that is completely against natural human behaviour. We are already being told that a vaccine may only have a 60 percent success rate. If that is the case are you all prepared to do this for the rest of you’re lives.

I realise many on here are in the back half of theirs so may say yes. But what about our kids do you expect them to live in a world where hand shaking, hugging, kissing, singing, dancing, is no longer socially acceptable. With social distancing how are teens and young adults meant to meet, make relationships, have their first dance, have their first kiss have their first fcuk and breed. To do any of what I’ve mentioned here means breaking the social distancing guide lines that you currently call people being selfish for doing.

If a vaccine is developed with such a low success rate how do we manage this because that very bad flu will still be amongst us, and will still be bumping off some of our population which we all now know is made up of the elderly. Or do you expect or want all these rules and regulations to be dropped with such a low success rate. You people have not thought about this as it is all about you but you dare to call others the selfish ones whom long term are thinking potential long term here selfish for thinking about how the majority of the population could be forced to live.

Perhaps you are advocates of an Orwellian dystopian style future which is slowly being brought upon us track and trace everywhere we go Monitor our movements monitor our health on a daily basis I could go on but I think most will get the picture.

Personally as a parent I and many many others including the elderly do not want that type of a world for our kids or grand kids and many of us think it is people like Rented Tracksuit and a few of the other self righteous posters on here whom are using this to show people look at what a good citizen I am and look at the sacrifices I’ve made and look how selfish you are cause you don’t do what I do, think you are the selfish ones in all of this.

The ideology war is upon us. I hope this post provokes discussion but more so opens peoples eyes up a little. Fire away righteous roosters.

Anyone else want a go at addressing any of the above Rented Tracksuit has responded but all he has done is try to ridicule what was written. As opposed to answering any of it by giving any answers with any reasoning or substance. Come on RT or anyone else for that matter what do we do as a society if a vaccine is rolled out that has 60 percent success rate Carry on living like we are now which goes against basic human behaviours or do we ditch social distancing and the like even though the virus will still be prevalent and bumping the elderly off and if no vaccine is ever found do we live like this forever.

I think there are way too many motor vehicle accidents and deaths.

We should "lockdown" all cars in their garages for an indefinite period.

                            And watch the curve flatten.

I will keep living the way I do now. Nothing has changed for me. Im not that desperate to get out and about. I dont need to be seen in a coffee shop every morning to feel good about myself. I have everything I need at home!

Simple answer is, life the way you and I know it has changed. Get used to it for now at least.
