Heres an idea.....why doesn't Scomo give Trump a call and say "we were the only country in the world who backed you up, so can you start buying our beef and barley?".
Trump just signed a free trade agreement with China.
Maybe China is just looking for an excuse to shaft us so it can replace our exports with exports from the US.
Our exports to China of wine, dairy, seafood, etc will likely be next.
Boss of the AWU wrote to our govt urging it to hold its nerve.
The opinion of all those on Sky last night was that this is the time.
That we must not just slink away anymore.
That China is bullying many countries, including .NZ Japan.

Experts predict Australians will have to wait years for overseas travel as the Prime Minister says Australia will always stand its ground, even if it comes at the cost of trade relations with China.
Scott Morrison has been accused of playing “deputy sheriff” to the United States after calling for a global inquiry into the origins of COVID-19. But he has brushed off the criticism.
“We have always been independent, we have always pursued our national interests, and we always will,” Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra today.
“We will always be Australians in how we engage with the rest of the world, and we will always stand our ground when it comes to the things that we believe in and the values that we uphold.”

Well there you go.
At least someone's made a decision.
The Free Trade Agreement with Indonesia starts soon...they might buy our beef and barley China has banned. [and maybe the wine, dairy, seafood etc]
If China isn't answering the phone, maybe time to send all its ambassadors and officials home.

Looks like Trump has had enough of China.

Beijing responded furiously after Donald Trump said he could “cut off the whole relationship” with China, threatening to “reunify” Taiwan.

If Morrison wants to play the trade game with China then pull the trigger rather opening our universities to Chinese students in phase 3 of the economic opening....show them who calls the shots. Cut back on some exporting to them, starting with baby formula. At the moment i get the feeling he doesn't want lose face about what has already being said but at the same time not enter into a tit for tat trade war that China has started. Balls in Morrisons court

As for Trump having enough of China not even Fox News is giving that any publicity- check foxnews .com. As i said before he can default on the 1.1 trillion debt the USA has to China.....and then Americans can use the US dollars to wipe there backsides because thats all it will be worth

Indonesia already exports to Australia crude petroleum and manufactured goods.
With our nukes pointing at them, even with a more powerful military than ours now, Indonesia would not try to invade us.
Just received my home-delivered DT today.
The front page headline screams:

China is ‘cashing in on coronavirus chaos’: US envoy
The Chinese government has created a global pandemic through their “gross negligence, obsessive secrecy and brazen dishonesty” — and is now using it to advance their interest in our region, the United States ambassador to Australia says.
Condemning China over its culpability in the spread of COVID-19, Ambassador Arthur B. Culvahouse described President Xi Jinping’s communist regime as “bullies” who were trying to destabilise our region with a “shocking new vigour” while the rest of the world dealt with the health and economic consequences of the coronavirus.

Honestly The Daily Telegraph or any Murdoch owned media should be classed as entertainment only. Occasionally you get bit of truth in it but its mainly agenda driven propaganda.
Be realistic, what can the USA do to China? Trump hasn't even got the balls to hold Xi responsible -only blowing hot air about the whole regime.
Now would be a perfect time for China to make a move into Taiwan. Not much the USA can do about it-they are broke as is and having a hard time just passing stimulus packages let alone funding a war. Plus it would be kind of hypocritical for the US to interfere considering no one stopped them invading Iraq on a lie and then keeping all the oil fields.
However i'm tipping China wont make a move on Taiwan. That sort of thing is more the US style. Guess we can wait and see

US can do a lot against China...like call for a global boycott by consumers of all things made in China.

Bondi Boy don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but the USA isn’t on the favourites list with most of the world.
I can tell you the countries that won’t support that- all of Europe. The EU has already stated they will work with China both economically & with the pandemic investigations. Certainly Trump pulling out of the WHO hasn’t sat well with the EU.
Don’t think Trump has many friends in South America let alone Mexico.
South Korea? If you check any white goods made by Samsung or LG these days.... they aren’t made in Korea anymore- mostly China. They won’t jeopardise their economy just to improve Trumps re- election campaign.
So who is left? Please don’t say Australia with a 45 billion trade surplus with China.
Its all like a game of poker except Xi has seen his cards and Trump would be going in blind. Stay tuned!

The EU is only angry with Trump because he told them they weren't pulling their financial weight in NATO...that they were basically getting a free ride with self defence at America's expense.
South Korea, America should just let Nth Korea have them.
Ditto Japan. They want to choose China over America, let them get bullied by China.Last edited by bondi.boy; 05-16-2020, 08:22 PM.
