china's capable of great brutality - ask the uighurs, tibetans and any dissenters. would it be any better if it were democatic? i dunno. if they elected some populist as their leader i don't think that would be good for us. let em have their communism - they don't have a democratic tradition like we do and anyway we're not going to effect regime change there. i like living in a place with political freedoms but if i was poor in china i'd be happy with the economic progress of the last few decades.
we have to stand up to china when necessary but i reckon we stuffed up taking the lead in asking them to be more open about covid. ask our farmers how they feel about that - they're the casualties and for what gain? we should have signed some internationally sanctioned document - you don't pick a fight you can't win.

In his ‘leadership’ he has lost our major trading partner and sidled up to a fading superpower. He had the opportunity to play conduit for the worlds sake but instead found himself punching below his weight to a distant howling wolf.
Scott, where the bloody hell are ya?..it’ll be interesting to see

Yeah all that Skeez and the Murdoch media has unsurprisingly anointed him the hero of the pandemic. He might have had a good pandemic (he didn't get it) but other than that he didn't want lockdowns when it began and, bereft, the weasel left it to the States. If they fcuked up he could blame them and if they were successful he'd take credit. How many working class mugs will buy that? Well a few on here by the looks. Two of them are so impressed that they're supporting the wages cut policy but not for themselves presumably. Too busy waving flags to think about much at all but still giving us the benefit of their ignorant opinions and other boss loving tripe. Come to think of it, cutting wages of the poor and vulnerable is not a long way off being an Australian officer on the Burma Railway, presiding over an enormous death rate imbalance between rankers and Officers, taking the boys' boots and their vegetable gardens and giving them up to the Japanese.
Oz is a sham democracy, a bad joke. Like the US, it is a Plutocracy - rule by the rich who propagate lies like China is capable of "great brutality". As great as our brutality in Afghanistan? Unlikely because the Chinese have not attacked any other nation. Admittedly. they have zero tolerance for people who rip off wages or who commit frauds in business or against the people - that despicable lot end their greedy lives against a wall. Come to think of it Erica Betz's SS uncle Otto was keen on dispatching people too but in his case they were innocent Jews despatched to Treblinka, Austwicz and Birkenau.

Like the Uyghurs and the Kongers, there's a back story to Tiannamen though it's not likely to be found in our warmongering MSM. The protests in Tiannamen went on for weeks and weeks and the Government showed laudable forbearance. During that time, single patrolling members of the constabulary and soldiers were ambushed, murdered and often hung from bridges. When the showdown came the law'n'order forces were in no mood to indulge their tormentors.
I've commented on the poor Uyghers in the past, many of them are terrorists fighting for the Caliphate and attacking the infidel Chinese State as ordered to do by Osama Bin Laden. Activists are, quite reasonably, detained. Australia detains people, some for 10 years now, who have done nothing at all let alone terrorism.

the only heartening thing about our recent troubles in afghanistan is that it wasn't swept under the carpet. you don't get that sort of openness in china - their repression at tianenmen was based on the belief that russia's glasnost was a mistake.

As it was. But the US and its arms race throughout the Cold War resulted in a parlous economic situation in Russia by the 90s. The US has never allowed any Socialist or Communist state to survive on its own merits. Indeed it, along with the Brits and even some ignorant Australian volunteers, invaded the Soviets in 1919 in a failed attempt to crush the revolution and return the aristocracy. Later it aided and abetted the British encouragement of Germany to expand eastward because of Hitler's anti communist credentials and the eventuality was a Russo-German war that left 20 million (some historians say 50) Russians dead and their country in ruin. That war was fought and won in Russia, D- Day and the rest was a mere sideshow. The Soviets never full recovered from that war.

The most frustrating part was it was so unnecessary. Dutton had to shoot his mouth off at the urgings of Mike Pompeo because no one was siding with the USA against China- and that was because it was all about taking the heat off Trumps inept handling of Covid. It had nothing to do with us and Morrison should have left it at that instead of backing Dutton up and then upping the ante. Theres a fine line between being a strong leader and a dumb leader.
China's first move was to put a massive tax on our barley ( giving some bs excuse why they did).....and then its no co-incidence they then go buy the barley shortfall from the USA- letting Australia know how loyal the US really is.
We have a massive trade surplus with China- make the surplus higher! Take their money!!!
