Alan Jones: I'm the person that's led this charge

BY THURSDAY last week Alan Jones was screaming like a race caller whose horse was coming home. "I'm the person that's led this charge here. Nobody wanted to know about North Cronulla, now it's gathered to this."

The riot was still three days away and Sydney's highest-rating breakfast radio host had a heap of anonymous emails to whip his 2GB listeners along. "Alan, it's not just a few Middle Eastern bastards at the weekend, it's thousands. Cronulla is a very long beach and it's been taken over by this scum. It's not a few causing trouble. It's all of them."

Sunday's trouble did not come out of the blue. It was brewing all week on talkback radio — particularly on 2GB.Radio doesn't get much grimmer than Alan Jones' efforts in the days before the Cronulla riot. He was dead keen for a demo at the beach — "a rally, a street march, call it what you will. A community show of force."

He assured his huge audience he "understood" why that famous text message went out and he read it right through again on air. "Come to Cronulla this weekend to take revenge. This Sunday every Aussie in the Shire get down to North Cronulla to support the Leb and wog bashing day …"

Daily he cautioned his listeners not to take the law into their own hands, but he warmed to listeners who had exactly that on their minds.

Last Thursday Charlie rang to suggest all junior footballers in the Shire gather on the beach to support the lifesavers. "Good stuff, good stuff," said Jones.

"I tell you who we want to encourage, Charlie, all the Pacific Island people because, you want to know something, they don't take any nonsense. They are proud to be here — all those Samoans and Fijians. They love being here. And they say, 'Uh huh, uh huh. You step out of line, look out.' And, of course, cowards always run, don't they?"

When John called on Tuesday to bluntly recommend vigilante action — "If the police can't do the job, the next tier is us" — Jones did not dissent. "Yeh. Good on you, John." And when he then offered a maxim his father had picked up during the war — "Shoot one, the rest will run" — the broadcaster roared with laughter. "No, you don't play Queensberry's rules. Good on you, John."

It was horrible stuff, larded with self-congratulation. And pity poor Berta — "not of a Middle Eastern family" — who tried to argue there were two sides to this story. When she reported hearing "really derogatory remarks" aimed at Middle Eastern people on Cronulla beach, Jones cut her off: "Let's not get too carried away, Berta. We don't have Anglo-Saxon kids out there raping women in western Sydney."

Yesterday, 2GB broadcasters claimed two-thirds of calls coming into the station supported "what happened" at Cronulla on Sunday. But Alan Jones is not around to deal with the aftermath. He's having a well-earned holiday.

Jones rapped for pre-riot 'scum' remarks

The Australian broadcasting watchdog has found that 2GB and its prominent breakfast presenter Alan Jones breached the radio code of practice during broadcasts just before the infamous 2005 Cronulla riots.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority today found that the company and Jones broadcast material - specifically comments made by Jones between December 5-9 - was "likely to encourage violence or brutality and to vilify people of Lebanese and Middle-Eastern backgrounds on the basis of ethnicity".

The investigation by ACMA began after complaints were received after the broadcasts, some of which had Jones calling the men responsible for an alleged attack on Cronulla beach "Middle Eastern grubs".
On December 7 Jones read out a listener's letter on air, saying: "My suggestion is to invite one of the biker gangs to be present in numbers at Cronulla railway station when these Lebanese thugs arrive, it would be worth the price of admission to watch these cowards scurry back onto the train for the return trip to their lairs.

"Australians old and new shouldn't have to put up with this scum."

ACMA found the listener's comments breached section 1.3(a) of the code.

I think the friends and family of Anita Cobby would say otherwise

            Absolutely right

When you look the statistical relationship between immigration and offending (per capita) the lowest rates of crime are from those who were born overseas, then the second lowest is from first generation....and the highest from second generation and beyond. Tells a story

Bondi Boy his comments were not correct. If they were there would be no way he would have made the on air apology and correction. He has no qualms about telling fibs and will only correct statements when forced to. If he was right he would have aimed up right back at the ACMA

Sky News Australia is just Fox News lite....and we are talking about the same Sky who employs "Richo & Jones".

Speaking of Murdoch news does The Daily Tele still have "Street Talk" section in the middle pages? One of my mates had the job of going out into Martin Place & asking random people the current affair questions and taking the pics of their heads to publish next to what they had said. It used to shit him because people didn't want to stop and talk because they thought he was selling them something-and the ones that did not many wanted their name and pic printed.

So i and a few boys from the office used to get a start in the Street Talk section every now and then. I at least would ask what the question was and if it required more of a centre view then i would be ok for it to be in the paper. A couple of the boys just wanted their heads in the paper and didn't care to answer the question and would only see the question and how they "answered" it on the day it was printed!!

Now my friend who worked at the Daily Tele had zero interest in politics- couldn't careless at all. He knew that only certain answers would get printed. Id sometimes answer a quest and say "that wont get printed hey" and he would say "no". Thats the culture of Murdoch owned media. Truth and facts are only so when it suits their agenda. Otherwise truth and facts either get ignored or "massaged" to lean their way

I would be lost without Sky News I'd have to say, as I think they at least provide an alternate viewpoint to most of the other media. That many many Aussies agree with.

The other outlets usually speak with one groupthink voice that is openly hostile to anything that supports conservative values. Even, quite shamefully, the publicly funded ABC. They should, at least, represent all views.

Yes another piece of crazy. But it's the misdirected opportunism of some pollies that's given the media the ammo to spin things that way.

Hate to see what they would have done if the budgets had estimated a shortfall of $60b instead.

                        Alan told us that:

"CO2 is plant/tree food...without it they would die.
                        CO2 makes up 0.04% of earth's atmosphere.
97% of that 0.04% CO2 occurs naturally. The other 3% of the 0.04% is man-made.
Australia's share of the 3% of the 0.04% is 1.3%.

                        ie:
Australia's share of man-made carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is miniscule....so miniscule not even to be noticed."

His theory that because something comprises only a minute amount of a total it cannot have a massive effect is scientifically & factually incorrect. When examining the potency of botulinum toxin type H only 13 billionth of a gram can be deadly when sniffed.....& in fact an injection of only 2 billionth of a gram is lethal. Now even those whose maths is so bad that they can make a 60 billion dollar mistake can appreciate that Jones’ 3% (too small to have an effect, says Jones) is far more substantial than two billionths (which can kill, according to scientists).

Jones said on Sky this year "If carbon dioxide is 0.04% of the atmosphere and human beings are responsible for 3% of that 0.04%, and Australia is responsible for 1.3% of the 3% of the 0.04% it’s like saying there’s a granule of sugar on the Harbour Bridge. Clean the bridge up it’s dirty."

A grain of sugar weighs 0.000625 of a gram-a figure to six decimal places. Botulinum toxin becomes a killer dosage at 0.000000002 grams- a figure to nine decimal places. So an amount of this toxin weighing the same as a grain of sugar will wipe out all of Sydney. Better take the Harbour Tunnel than the Harbour Bridge!!

My point is Jones doesn't believe in science- never has. It's over his head so he would dumb it down for those who wont and dont challenge his views. His denial of the seriousness of Covid came as no surprise to those who know that he does his "own research" on such matters.

My understanding was that it was caused by 1000 odd companies misreporting they had 1500 employees instead of one or two . Government picked it up so no harm done , As Jack said better than being 60 Billion over
