Enforcement of Ethanol fuel

On the E10 issue..... I refuse to put this crap in my bike (Suzy Thou). Suzuki have stepped away from any warranty issues in the past, if you have run this stuff in it. And they have also said in many press releases that anything more than 10% WILL cause issues with engine wear & maintenance.
On a side note, I have a cousin that ran it in his Kawasaki W650 a couple of years ago (thought he could save some dosh)...by the second tankful he was getting it taken back home in a ute. All filters were gummed up. Was a nightmare to get it to fire again.

No they wouldn't be. And thats the point.

If they didn't have companies paying them to use up their farmland growing sugarcane for ethanol production, they'd dedicate it to other foodstocks which actually are in demand.

Its wasting valuable farmland that should be used to sure up our food supply on growing a useless crop that does nothing but lines petrol companies pockets.

That's probably true dice, but I bet it won't stop the pricks upping the percentage in future years. Mark my words, car manufacturers, who are joined at the hip with the fossil fuel industry, will come out with some magical "catalytic convertor" which will reduce the risk to engines enabling a larger percentage of ethanol to be added to fuel. Peter Brock tried to sell something similar years ago from memory but it turned out to be a dud.

But you watch another of those will be pushed onto the market and hailed as an industry breakthrough and promoted as being great for the environment when in fact it's nothing but a way to extend the monoply as I stated earlier.

Plenty of companies already have cars on the market that can run on very high ethanol content fuel (like 70-80%). Essentially they modify the fuel lines etc to prevent corrosion and other such issues, although the cynic in me thinks that these changes aren't going to stand up to running a car for 200,000km or more.

That's not a cynic in you Danish...that's a realist. It wouldn't be the first time a car company has installed dodgy parts that last up until two days after the factory warranty runs out.

be fine if new cars are engineered for it from the factory? older cars have problems with fuel line deterioration and muck accumulation in the older fuel tanks?

i seem to remember shell advertising a fuel for ferraris of 100 octane as their premium, funny you can get it nopw, just 98 but still at the ultra premium price ! gotcha again?

Geez, I put E10 in my little Barina without even thinking twice about it, not knowing anything about cars. Maybe I should think twice and upgrade my fuel. Mind you, it's not as if I drive my cars to the ground, the Barina is close to 11 years old and has done less than 65,000 K.

with both turbos boosting at 14psi at about 6000rpm and 215 klws being pushed throuigh the tyres, the last thing i need is a bit of detonation in the timing because of fuel quality, otherwise its engine rebuild time? buying 98 ron for me is much cheaper than an engine rebuild! doing that im too busy looking out for other cars especially police cars so i dont have time to look out for pinging!

I'm in the same boat as melon, i only use premium anyway. You might pay a little more at the bowser, but you'll save money in mechanic bills in the long run, plus you get further on 98 anyway. I've got no choice but to put 98 in my bike aswell, so i've got 2 tanks that take premium and this won't make a stitch of difference to me.

And Danish is also correct that car manufacturers have already jumped on the e10 bandwagon. My mrs drives a 2008 RE3 swift and it runs on 98. A bloke at work has the exact same car but a 2009 model and on the inside of his petrol cap it says 'e10 only'. I've looked over them and from what i can see there is nothing different about them. That's not to say they're not somehow different on the inside, but it all seems a bit fishy to me.
