you've got a point 08. people should listen to medical advice and, apart from for a small %, that advice is to take the vaccine. you can't say medical advice is good when it tells you not to take the vaccine but bad when it tells everyone else to take the vaccine. everyone acknowledges that the vaccine has side effects in about half of all those who take it and of a few will need a day or two off work. that's nothing new. (but also, maybe some people just want a couple of days off and so lie about having side effects - tough on their co-workers but what can you do).

i get that rwb said she trusted you 100% cos you're country working class and then went nasty on you but just give it up. be a man - put her on ignore and enjoy your footy

It's the feedback given to me by my managers explaining to me why my workload has now tripled as I now have to cover for the work colleagues who are unable to log in and work even though we are all at home. They have had bad reactions and are currently unable to work and we have deadlines to meet. This is all factual, none of this is my opinion. I'm doing my bit as a team player by doing everything I can to help them work wise as the last thing they need is more stress when they do log back whenever that will be. I cover for my work colleagues if they are unwell, regardless of what the cause of the illness is and frankly it's none of my business but the team were very open in sharing this information in case others get the same reaction as it's happening to a few people we work with. Like I said before, people need to plan ahead and be prepared to expect the best but prepare for the worst. Not everyone gets paid sick leave in their jobs as some people get paid hourly rates and some get paid daily. The appointments are booked in advance as we all know but the reactions and side effects are not something everyone had been prepared for. It's not just a day or two as the media like to make out. It can be much longer for some people. It seems it's ok to scare people about Covid but the side effects of the vaccine for some people should not be minimised, mocked or sneered at either. 2 other forum members have both shared stories about young men in their 20's they both know of experiencing reactions so bad they had to be hospitalised. They have my sympathies too and I find this quite disturbing. I hope both young men make a full recovery and can lead happy healthy positive lives just like I would say if they had Covid. What sort of a society have we become when we pick and choose which unwell people get sympathy and support and which get mocked at?
As for what you said about Rooster1908, I just feel sad reading your post MR but you put everything beautifully so thank you for your kind words. I choose to think of the good things I shared with him prior to all of this happening. He did ask me for Lotto numbers once and I did say I like the numbers 4 and 8. 28 is another that springs to mind and my other tip for this year is the Brisbane Lions. So good luck with everything and I hope he and his family stay well and be happy.

I have made a career out of correcting punctuation and grammar. I actually get paid to do this as an Internal Auditor which is my job title. So keep on doing it MR. The world needs us. I remember reading a bumper sticker years ago:

Bad spellers of the world, untie!

Hi RWB yes you’re right it’s a fact not an opinion that there are known side effects for the vaccine. I didn’t word that very well in my post. Quite ironic given my spiel about grammar and the like. But all vaccines come with side effects both common and rare and everyone is told about them prior to being jabbed. Well they are supposed to be. Even babies and toddlers get side effects when they receive their childhood immunisations, leading mums to feel guilty and worried about allowing their little person to have a needle! It’s common to get a slight fever, tiredness and loss of appetite. Pain at the injection site and lethargy too. More serious side effects are less common. It’s why they make you wait around for 15 minutes after and monitor your symptoms when you get home. It’s unfortunate that it affects workplaces but the government is endorsing and encouraging this and with lockdowns and covid itself the workplace in general is going to be disrupted anyway. And of course those who get serious side effects should be treated with kindness and understanding, but these should be in the minority. A government would be stupid and negligent to endorse a product which has known serious side effects for a large number of people.

Do you have any tips for the NRL Grand Final? Please do not let it be Souffs!!

No worries 08. We all see things differently and I accept your opinion even though I respectfully disagree. I do however agree completely with you about the need for vaccinations to get us out of this mess. I can’t see any other option, even if it means having to have a third booster jab! I don’t want to spend the rest of my lifetime stuck in constant lockdown. My husband and I always dreamed of travelling overseas too in our retirement and this covid crap is destroying those dreams!

        • My Rep touch football coach from 2 years ago (Vawdon Cup), was admitted to hospital and not in a good way at all. Might be ICU but I dont know the latest.

He is very fit, still was coaching at State Cup level and Vawdon Cup last year, (its been canned this year atm) he is in his mid 50s, married and with a few teenaged kids, not old at all.....

I sincerely hope this saga ends over time and sooner rather than later MR.

I don't know you in person apart from our online friendship, through this forum (via forum posts and the occasional personal messages we exchange), but I cannot think of a more deserving couple to enjoy retirement than you and your husband.......

              A few snippets from this

Now is a critical time,” Israeli Minister of Health Nitzan Horowitz said as the 56-year-old got a COVID-19 booster shot on 13 August, the day his country became the first nation to offer a third dose of vaccine to people as young as age 50. “We’re in a race against the pandemic.”

His message was meant for his fellow Israelis, but it is a warning to the world. Israel has among the world’s highest levels of vaccination for COVID-19, with 78% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, the vast majority with the Pfizer vaccine. Yet the country is now logging one of the world’s highest infection rates, with nearly 650 new cases daily per million people. More than half are in fully vaccinated people, underscoring the extraordinary transmissibility of the Delta variant and stoking concerns that the benefits of vaccination ebb over time.

hat is clear is that “breakthrough” cases are not the rare events the term implies. As of 15 August, 514 Israelis were hospitalized with severe or critical COVID-19, a 31% increase from just 4 days earlier. Of the 514, 59% were fully vaccinated. Of the vaccinated, 87% were 60 or older. “There are so many breakthrough infections that they dominate and most of the hospitalized patients are actually vaccinated,” says Uri Shalit, a bioinformatician at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) who has consulted on COVID-19 for the government. “One of the big stories from Israel [is]: ‘Vaccines work, but not well enough.’”
Hence the need for boosters, I'm no expert or even a informed commentator on this, I do recall someone (a so called expert who was a professor in the medical field)saying that these jabs may only have an efficacy or however you spell it for a fairly short period of time and at the same time Covid-19 is mutating. Hence a jab you have received 7 or 8 months ago probably wont offer a real lot of protection at all to the emerging variants.

I am somewhat hesistant re the jab, I was initially suspicious of a vaccine being developed and rolled out for use in less than 12 months, when previously vaccines would usually take more than 5 years to roll out for the first time. I held off for a few months thinking I would let the older and more vulnerable, the disabled and the front line medical and other front line supply chain aged care and the airport plus other workers who would have contact with overseas arrivals get the jab first. I decided to the a jab and am getting my first one tomorrow.

I am not telling others to get one if they cannot for one reason or the other, its a really unfortunate enough situation we have been put into a choice of getting the jab or not, but for me I am comfortable with my decision and to also receive boosters in the future.

Footnote, my partner, she is a front line worker who works overseas and has been fighting the pandemic over the past 18 or so months for a large community of people overseas. So yes I have another motivation for the jab, half of my family also lives overseas and I miss them terribly to the point I am considering leaving Australia one day if things don't get better in a few years time.....

Hi Brawl, that’s such a nice thing to say. Thanks so much. I hope you’re keeping safe and well and agree wholeheartedly that I hope this whole thing ends very soon. It’s affecting people in so many ways. It’s also great to have you as an online friend!

Can’t wait to get out to a few games next season. Hope you can make it out there AW and RWB!

The Sydney Roosters want to become the first sporting club in Australia to ban unvaccinated fans from attending home games next season at the new Allianz Stadium.

Chairman Nick Politis insists it’s the only way forward to get crowds safely back in big numbers.

“We want members and fans to feel safe about coming to the football and knowing the people they are sitting next to have been fully vaccinated,” Politis said.

“It might upset a minority of supporters but it’s the only way forward.

“We think all NRL clubs need to take a responsible stand on this like they are doing overseas.”
The Roosters are set to implement a groundbreaking vaccination policy.
The Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL are about to start their season at the new Allegiant Stadium

The Raiders are the first NFL club that will require all attendees to show proof of vaccination on a mobile phone app.

For attendees who aren’t vaccinated, there will be a pop-up vaccine clinic at every home game, and fans can get their shot and go into the venue with a mask.

Children not old enough to receive the vaccine can attend, but will also have to wear a mask.

Raiders’ owner Mark Davis said season ticket holders can receive a full refund if they don’t like it

It is proving to be an incentive for fans to get vaccinated.

“To be honest the Raiders games really pushed me into getting the vaccine,” said season ticket holder Jillian Diaz in an interview on Fox Sports.

Venues NSW chairman Tony Shepherd recently raised the issue of vaccination passports being a requirement for all major sporting events.

“If you choose not to have the jab that is your civil right in a free country but we need to do something to reopen our stadiums.

“The venues will have to say you can’t attend. Simple as that. Getting crowds back to sport is important but we can’t put fans at risk.

“It will be a tremendous incentive for people to get vaccinated.”

                              • NSW vaccination rate is at 32% fully and 60% one dose .If those 60% do take the second dose and it would be expected most will that well over 90% .Way more than some on here are citing as the uptake rate
