I'm not a fan of lockdowns, masks or the emphasis on social distancing for normal healthy people. We have over compensated with enforcements in these areas. Science and academia is divided on the effectiveness of lockdowns anyway, despite what the media peddle. I said from day dot that my biggest fear with Covid is that the cure will be worse than the disease. Lockdowns kill businesses, jobs and social interactions, all things that people need. For zilch.
For a relatively small island nation like us....The emphasis to control a new virus (if serious) should be on two fronts (1) effective border control and quarantine for returned travellers and (2) protect the old and sick/vulnerable. Not total lockdowns where 99% have mild symptoms no worse than normal colds/flu.
We would have bugger all deaths from this if we had effective quarantine systems in place...the Melbourne hotel stuff up resulted in more than 90% of our deaths and the Ruby Princess responsible for NSW deaths. Maybe we do need a larger, more isolated quarantine centre with better controls, not hotels.
The pollies have used the option of lockdowns to take the "we kept you safe" mantra to their next elections. And it seems to work for them. Sadly we don't have leaders with much courage or vision.
I agree we need a review of how better to respond to the next virus strain, which is inevitable.
I realise many will disagree with what I've said...say la vee.

Yes i am, got my second AZ jab last week. I am 45. Quite sick after the first jab with sweats/chills but no side effects after the second. I had pretty early access through work but would have got it as soon as possible anyway. Each to their own but i am glad i got it done

Keep getting a laugh at redwhiteblues sig about wanting to maintain the social distancing for some people post Covid..#We Stand with ourJewish community#

For anyone interested check out the work of Dr. Brett Weinstein. According to him there is an effective treatment for Covid-19 which has been kept secret now that so much has been invested and the vast profits are to be made from global vaccinations. Like Mickie said, nobody is dying from this shit now. If it kills you it is most likely that you are an obese individual with poor nutrition and a severe lack of Vitamin D from not seeing the sun.

no doubt it's hard to get the balance right but you could argue that we haven't had a lot of death in aus because of the lockdowns. if you're wearing a seat belt and have a car accident but don't get injured it could be because you were wearing the seat belt. lockdowns have bad flow on effects but probably not as many as just letting the virus rip.
the centre right govt in the uk was strongly v lockdowns but when the death toll started mounting they changed their approach (and that was when the virus was less infectious than the strain we've now got here). the numbers in nsw atm are encouraging and can anyone say that they would have been that way without the current lockdown? have a look at what happened in india.
if you think lockdowns aren't for the best it's pretty much irrelevant cos govts and health experts in aus disagree with you. the only way to prevent future lockdowns is for everyone to get vaccinated.

I don't have any answers, just opinions like everyone else. I hate to agree with Simple Jack but I think he is right. I think it has been a massive over-reaction to a virus that really isn't that terrible. We will look back and ask why the world was shut down and why it largely has stayed that way since early 2020. Initially people were terrified but as treatment for Covid-19 improved and more was known about the virus it seems it is not as deadly as first thought.

Again not a fan of lockdowns either but sometimes as we have seen some idiots need to be lockdown for there own good because they simply won't do the right thingI was shocked to learn that the vaccine is hard to acquire in Australia.

I'm talking about the global response. I have no idea what the best response would have been but I firmly believe Covid-19 ain't shit to most of us. At first I was as fearful and concerned as anyone but I stopped fearing it a long time ago. My main reason for not wanting it is I don't want the Wuhan flu in my body. As of Monday I will be fully vaccinated so in my opinion I winI was shocked to learn that the vaccine is hard to acquire in Australia.
