  • The Monkees Davey Jones dies

Sad news for those of us who grew up in the 60's

    [From the Daily Telegraph 1/3/12]
DAVY Jones, lead singer of the '60s pop-rock group The Monkees, has died at the age of 66 of a heart attack.

Jones, who last performed February 19 in Oklahoma, formed the Monkees in 1966 with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork.

Their biggest hits included "Daydream Believer", "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer" and they also had a television show.

After the show went off the air, the group eventually disbanded but Jones continued to perform on his own.

TMZ said Martin Memorial Hospital confirmed Jones' death.

His publicist Helen Kensick told FOX News Channel, "The only thing we can do is confirm that he has died of a heart attack at Indiantown Florida this morning. We will have more later. "

Jones, a native of Manchester, England, is survived by his wife, Jessica, and four daughters from previous marriages

I was just watching the Brady Bunch the other day when he was a guest star on the show. I never heard a bad word about Davey Jones. Very sad news.

        Hey, hey, we're the monkees
And people say we monkey around,
        But we're too busy singing
        To put anybody down.

        RIP Davey.

I'm sure now in true TV fashion, one of the digital stations will start airing the Monkees tv series.

BTW, Marcia was two timing him with Desi Arnaz Jr.

I seem to recall an episode of the Banana Splits where the Monkees were guests.

There's another one...bring back the Banana Splits.

            And Lancelot Link.

                That's bloody awful news.

They did that reunion tour back a couple of years ago, for a bunch of 60 year old men they sounded great.

I love The Monkees. And yes he was a lead singer with the band but Mickey Dolenz was their best lead singer.
                    RIP Davey.

RIP Davey. The Monkees were the first boy band, and didn't one of the other members' mum invent liquid paper or something?

I was a big Basil Brush fan myself.

                          Chook.

i think it was Mickey's mum, chook. Apparently his family was well to do & people couldn't understand why he wanted to go into the music business.
