  • Firstly I will commence by saying I consider Bondi Boy as a much loved and respected contributer to this forum. However this thread title is ridiculous ALL our players could die form a respiratory illness which has a survival rate of over 99.98 percent. Now how many of our players have died ZERO that is how many. I like a few others suspect this was BB at his best trolling.

It has been a tough two years and an even tougher last year I cannot believe this Sunday will be a year since I and a very close friend went to the Tea Gardens Hotel in Bondi Junction for Irish dancing, where there was a case of covid 19 who attended the said establishment who we missed by 10 minutes due to leaving for a bite to eat. I really shudder too think what could have been had we stayed for another half hour, just like our beloved Roosters players we here could all be dead. But the good Lord, Shiva, Allah or whatever you choose to believe in had not marked our cards just yet.

With that in mind it is really a time for some quiet reflection and time to consider just how lucky we are to still be walking this earth. It puts the events of the last year into perspective when I consider the brush with death we avoided, all because we chose to feed our faces as opposed to another pint of beer.

So tonight I urge you all to hug your loved ones that little bit tighter tell them you love them twice or even three times. Life is short and can be so cruel and none of us know when our number will be up

Still, age is a number, and you're only as old as you feel...................which makes me about 100.
Listening to the seekers as I type this.
      Good Morning Eddie,

Wow we are both August 1967..no wonder we get on so well..
I’ve made a note in my steel trap mind that your birthday is 31 August so I will ensure to raise a cup of tea in your honour on that day even if I don’t happen to be around here at that time. I have a lot of forum members’ birthdays stashed in my mental vault and it’s nice to acknowledge one anothers’ special day and make sure it’s a positive and happy one with no dramas or interruptions.
I now do remember that my sister and I did celebrate my birthday in a very hot London in 2011. We were intending to go to Bath but I’d had a migraine from the crowds on Oxford St the day before (plus no Rose Bay sea breeze to be found!) so we did have a lovely quiet lunch down on The Thames in a great pub. So much for hot summer birthdays.

I’m sorry to hear that you feel 100 sometimes Eddie. For me personally, getting to know you has been a bright spot on this forum and please continue to shine your light on here for all of us. At least you are still with us and that is a reason to celebrate and that’s what BB was saying in this thread about how many people won’t be celebrating birthdays this year. It’s hard when you lose someone you love, particularly when they were a positive presence in your life. 57 was too young to die but this man had battled childhood illnesses all his life. He worked hard, was often the smartest person in the room but never had to be the loudest to prove this as he possessed what I call ‘quiet intelligence’. I still like to celebrate the lives of people no longer with us on birthdays or anniversaries and I feel for those this year who have lost loved ones to something as wretched as Covid.

I balance us out then Eddie as I still feel like I am in my 30’s or 40’s and people I work with think I’m at least 10 years younger than I am. That’s the benefit of surrounding yourself with positive, kind, healthy people. It’s a mental health benefit as well as a physical one. Funny how some think that them not being in my life anymore is some sort of punishment for me..The other day someone else’s Deliveroo order turned up at my door and this week, there seems to be someone else’s side order of miserable bastard following me around this forum apparently..make of that what you will..but I’ve implemented the ignore function.. Jerry Seinfeld said we need one in real life too..like the old answering machines..you are walking down the street, run into someone you don’t want to interact with and say “Beep, I’m sorry. I’m not here right now…!”..I think he was onto something..Just Keep Walking as INXS would say..but that’s a song for another thread..

This is me, my friends and family every time we cut loose a negative person or situation from our lives..we always share this video to remind ourselves how life is good when you only let good in. For us, its a moment of triumph to be celebrated..lots of happy clapping…enjoy!

      • Having read the above post. At the risk of offending or being accused of following someone around the forum even though I do not quote them or mention their name and when I respond to multiple people on a daily basis when I post here ( but that should not happen as it appears by what they are saying I’m on their ignore list but perhaps them saying they use the ignore function is not about me ) I cannot help but to think it is the sign of a very self centred person, and one who thinks everything is all about them, when they think that someone who has told them they want nothing to do with them in the real world, that the said person is not doing it because they believe that is the only or best way for themself and others to move forward, but rather they think it has been done to punish them, or the person is doing this solely to punish them. It is almost like a victim mentality.

I have an elderly friend a lady in her 70s whom I have struck up a friendship with who lives alone in my street. I bring their bins out on bin night. Sometimes I have a cup tea and a chat with them they enjoy the company.

Fascinating woman who has never married but has lived a very full life. She went close on one occasion but sadly for her things didn’t work out. I asked her recently would she be offended if you were described as a spinster. The response of course not, that is exactly what I am. Anyway when discussing a tricky issue. which I had not too long ago she told me. You should know that you make decisions that are not only best for you, but best for those around you. Sometimes others wont like that decision but you cannot please and or be friends with everyone in this world. It really was refreshing to hear a senior citizen who spoke my language. Her final words on that once you make that decision or if you one day find yourself on the other end of the scale Don’t look back in anger.

          Hello RWB.
Yes you nailed my birthday. Makes me a virgo, so I can go around and claim that I'm a virgin.

I can return your sentiment for I see you as a bright spot around here too.

Unfortunately I do feel a lot older than I am lately, but I started early.............expelled from school and forced to leave home at a young age.
The last couple of years have been a real challenge health wise. 12 months ago I would've been quite happy to die. ATM I decided to try and look for positives............and this forum has certainly helped.Slowly the real bad days are becoming less frequent and maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm glad I've avoided covid so far.

On the bright side I'm close to finalising my fantasy Eggheads team, AKA the tea-drinkers.
I've nominated myself for history, my carer who's an RN, for science and medical (although I've got to help her brush up on astronomy) , Alexander Armstrong as the all-rounder, Phil Gould for sport and yourself or HH for music.

It strikes me as sad that you had a falling out with Andy as I have warmed to him lately and he is an important part of the tea drinkers. lol. but that is none of my business.
Thankyou for your wonderful post and I'm glad you feel 10 years younger than you are.

PS........I remember that silly happy days episode..............at least he jumped no sharks in that one.

You know I cannot wait and find myself really excited for tomorrow mornings post to this. ( going by the last few days there will be one ) Will it contain accusations or inferences of lying along with other thinly veiled pot shots , quotes from the parents, telling us all once again they have lost 40kgs ( that is becoming a personal favourite of mine it would also be remiss of me not too say well, done to that ) Perhaps a reminder of how wonderful technology and the ignore function is will also be forthcoming whilst parroting a phrase or term the so called ignored poster has just used. To mark the occasion now I have a song which the title will mark this.

Great to hear you are feeling a a lot more positive on things

In regards to covid as an unvaccinated person who has had covid. It really isnt that bad ( my experience ) I beat it in 6 days. The sore that at the end of it being the most unpleasant aspect and day 4 waking up like I had a bad hangover. In saying that nobody in their right mind wants to get sick in any way So if you can avoid it great and whatever lengths one chooses to go to in avoiding this is their business. But it is not bad enough to warrant people being told how they should or be forced to live their lives in a certain manner. If you do get it my advice drink plenty of water smash the vitamin c vitamin d and zinc and make sure you eat and rest up. In fact I weould suggest you smash all those vitamins I have mentioned along with echinacea from now

Now I am off to the gymnasium to do some weights and and boxing fitness class Then off for a spot of lunch thinking sushi train I really really like sushi

Well I am thrilled to hear you are in a better place than 12 months ago. That's what I like to read about. I will come and visit one day with your permission as I have a signed Roosters jersey sitting here doing nothing and I do want to get home to Queensland when I can. I've sent the valuers around to the property so it will be sold soon..an end of an era for our family..

I was sad too at the time about other matters but I wasn't the one who instigated the situation..it was a shock to me too at the time.. but so be it...I'm mourning the loss of loved ones and family members for all sorts of reasons..There are lots of lovely people who want me in their lives and around their children so I will focus on them from now on and they will have my love, care, friendship, respect and attention. Some friendships have a shelf life and some don't. I'm an extremely patient, open minded and forgiving person but even I have my limits as to how much I am willing to be pushed these days.

I'm actually very glad you and Andy are getting on these days so I will hand him over to you like a baton in a relay race...I feel like I am dropping my naughtiest child off at daycare for the last time...you 2 blokes can look after one another from now on as I'm moving out of this equation. Here is one of my very favourite songs "Still On Your Side"..I prefer this version where Jimmy Barnes lets Bernard Fanning take lead vocals:

I don't envy you the covid experience. Unlike BB I can't see healthy young footballers dying, but in my case I might be classed as having underlying conditions.
I drink plenty of water everyday , but I think I'll take your advice about the vitamins. I've never heard of echinacea ?

It's funny that every case of covid I've read about, people say day 3 or 4 is the worst.

That is no problem...I have a spare bedroom upstairs.
It's a fair hike though. I'm way past Brissy, up near Frasier Island.

Good time to be selling ATM too. You'll get a good price.

70 people in nsw died from Covid last week.
Yes it's the maskless people on the buses and trains etc who are catching Covid and dying.
You don't see dead people on the bus.

                    Someone's children and grandchildren.
Mask wearing and social distancing should never have been abolished "indoors".

People have moved on, from living... to the grave, killed by Covid in record numbers.
BB Covid is still going strong through the community here in Canberra. We get on average about 1000 cases a day more or less. Yes there are people still dying but it's only about 1-2% of the positive Covid cases. Of course these people shouldn't just be ignored and treated as a statistic as they are someone's mother / father / brother / sister etc. But most deaths seem to be occuring when the individual has an underlying medical condition and / or is elderly. I know you've said you have an underlying condition so it's probably best you continue to wear a mask and do everything you can to avoid it.

FWIW I'm one of those people who still wears a mask and when I'm in the office, I ride my bike to work in order to avoid public transport (it's a ~20-30 minute ride).

Cases are high, the percentage of serious cases (plus need for ventilators in those cases... which could be used for other patients who are dying) is statistically significant and caution is justified.

Further, me wearing a mask protects others (not me so much). There's enough people in society with stuff like diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, kidney stones, hepatitis, crohn's, HIV, Parkinson's, cancer...etc that I feel a sense of duty to protect them. I find it somewhat farcical to suggest that underlying conditions are a rarity (noting that people with no underlying condition can also be up shyte's creek with COVID).

Some don't and that's fine... that's on them. I don't have enough time in my day to stress over their hysteria when it's easy enough for me to just be cautious, get vaccinated, wear a mask and hibernate when I'm sick (which I should be doing anyway).

Hi MR you are a lovely lady with excellent taste in music But I kindly ask could you please refrain from posting misinformation guestimates oe uneducated figures re the death rate in ACT It is about 0.05 percent cases to deaths 138407 cases 67 deaths For it to be in that 1-2 percent range you have said it would need to be between 1384 to 2768 deaths As always I will provide demonstrable proof of what I have said when I can

Lol, in the words of my two teens, I surrender. The 1-2 percent I quoted was off the top of my head. The point I was trying to make was that it’s minuscule. And yes as a trained economist I should know better! Sorry….bad, bad on my part. Can I use the excuse I was in a rush?

Yep I get most of that. I think there’s only certain underlying conditions that increase the risk of Covid being life threatening. But yes wear a mask indoors and keep your distance if you’re really concerned.

Yes that will do, as a parent of a teenager I know what that is like.
