I understand it's easy to blame the people who didn't believe in the vax, because it is unproven, un tested and un approved, and the only so called vaccine in history that doesn't stop you getting the virus, or passing it on, or dying from it, but that's how it worked out.

if more than 90% are double vaxxed and only 60% of new cases are double vaxxed that means that taking the vax is a good idea and that's before you take into account the severity of cases amongst the unvaxxed.

... personally I hate Novak. I hope he gets cancer and dies. However, I just saw an article ridiculing his belief that he has immunity due to already having had the virus. Every scientist I have listened to has suggested that a person who recovers from Covid will develop strong antibodies that will protect them from the virus in the future. For example, if I get Omicron and recover I will have antibodies that protect me from the current strains of Covid.So if that is the case is Novak getting a harsh deal?

Here are some facts.

The vaccines were very effective against catching and transmitting the original strain. Now obviously not so much, but that's not their main benefit, which is protection from serious illness/hospitalisation/ICU/death.

As of 2 January, there were 1200 or so cases in NSW hospitalised. About 70% of these were vaccinated, 30 % unvaccinated. Remember 95% of entire adult population NSW is vaxed, only 5% not. This proves 2 things:

1. The vaccine is not 100 % effective at preventing serious illness, which we already know.

2. You are 7 times more likely to require hospital if you are unvaccinated.

There were 95 covid patients in ICU (very sick). 50 % were vaccinated and 50% were unvaccinated. Again, 2 things:

1. You are 17 times more likely to need ICU if you are unvaccinated

2. As per point 1, the protective effect of vaccination against VERY severe illness is even more pronounced.

The good news is overall, with the huge daily case numbers which are no doubt a gross underestimate of the real cases, we likely have at least 250,000 cases and, as of today, about 1600 hospitalised. So your chances of requiring hospital if you catch covid is only about 1 in 158 overall, and about 1 in 210 if vaxed.

At the start of the pandemic, it appeared you had a 20% chance of ending in hospital if covid positive. For various reasons, this has changed greatly.

I sincerely hope our leaders do not panic and bow to pressure to reintroduce lockdowns (as the Netherlands have). That would be a massively regressive and destructive step.

Remember, the free health system we all love depends for its survival on industry and a functioning economy.

Is it proven that you can’t get it again, or spread it?

I look at it like this, you renew your license to drive every 5 or ten years, you don’t get assessed and you just give them a few $$$ for your right to drive and nothing else, you haven’t lost your ability to drive, but there are some rules or conditions you just abide by, because you want to keep that privilege.

If someone is old and/or has co-morbidities and aren't unvaccinated then that's their stupid fault. It doesn't affect me.

As for Novak, he only has himself to blame and nobody deserves special treatment. But if we take a step back and analyse this issue from further afar can we not see the sheer absurdity of the entire situation?

Difference is that someone else not wearing a seatbelt does not affect you personally by that action or choice. It’s a precaution everyone takes to remain as safe as possible. No different taking the same precaution by being vaxxed.

Theres no witch hunt bud. Just differing opinions that are being thrashed out. It’s strange how those with the rebellious view get so worked up and start throwing insults. It doesn’t do their cause any favors.

The Novak situation is no different to anyone else trying arrive with incorrect credentials and yes, you can be turned away from other countries as well if you cannot prove your vaccination status. Why should we not protect our borders and minimize the risk of adding to the problem or having a new strain bought in?
