Meats gone. I know we've had other threads about musical icons sadly passing on. So here's one for the big fella.

Always regarded what he and Jim Steinman produced as the very best of Rock n Roll. Unsurpassed for that style of music.

    Their music will live on.

    RIP to the great man.

One of the greatest artists of the 20th Century and that classic album and his other works will live on forever.

i like it when the ordinary looking people do well esp if they don't have tickets on themselves -
When people call me a legend, I say, ‘Don’t call me that, I’m not a legend.’ I don’t pretend to be one. I want to be just a normal human being".

He lost his voice in his later years but his success is there to be seen in his record sales. Apart from Michael Jackson I believe he was the highest selling artist of all time. Bat Out of Hell sold like crazy. RIP

Couldn't cop tuneless Meatloaf. Didn't rock imo, fcukin' screamer like Barnsey - a Countdown creation of the sort of fake showbiz kind that Meldrum promoted like Queen (though they could rock but chose not to).

Those contemporaries who were far better include Bob Seger, Stevie Ray Vaughan , ZZ Top. Anything not Blues based ain't rockin'.

Meatloaf sold over 100 million albums worldwide....with "Bat Out of Hell" the 3rd biggest selling album of all time behind Jacksons Thriller & ACDC Back in Black. Not even Bob Seger can boast such numbers. Meatloaf will always be a legend

Yeah..well....popular taste, what can you say. I'm just questioning the "rocker" tag. None of that theatrical bullshit is R'n'R including Bowie, Queen, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Adam Ant and any number of Aussie pretenders. "popular music" is the most apt description.

Different kinds of rock (heavy, progressive, rock n roll, alternative, shock, glam, soft etc) and Johnny Brass said "Rock" voice not Rock n Roll voice.

Surely Zac's observation was/is pertinent given that this is an RIP thread re yet another fruit loop victim of a misguided conviction. No doubt the Loaf was Trumpist coming from Texas'n'all.

And Parkway, those labels that you mention do not necessarily involve "Rock" which to my mind is/was an evolution from the more simple/primitive wild Rock'n'Roll that began in the 40s. Cream were probably the first practitioners followed by Led Zep. Still Blues based though more cerebral, its prolonged guitar solos appealed to the new stoner generation of the late 60s and 70s. On the other hand, progressive, glam, soft, techno etc had little connection to the Blues and were forms marketed to to the kind of sheeple who needed a visual to be entertained having little appreciation for the music. Video clips pedalled all sorts of rubbish to the masses and Meatloaf was a beneficiary.

political? if i wear a mask or get a jab it's not cos i'm being political - it's cos i'm following medical advice and meatloaf would have had more chance of still being alive if he'd done the same
