I think you should show PC some respect he is a valued contributor of this community. He has been instrumental in keeping this place active throughout the off season Perhaps if the poetry thread had not been shut down ( im still not sure why it was, as it really was a cracking thread probably my favourite for the entire year of 2022 ) we would have had more commentary on poetry and limericks as opposed to political ideology

I've constantly shown him the respect of responding to his regurgitation of John Menadue's propaganda and giving him a friend to share his anti-western conspiracy theories with on lonely nights. On some of these nights, his only sources of comfort are an empty gatorade bottle, a piece of hose pipe (borrowed from my hose as I'm an avid gardener), a little bit of dakka and a refresh button to push for Stones and Iterations.

Uncle Jizzy would never be disrespectful to young Paeddo Cult 69. I've been here for him through thick and thin while wars are raging in Ukraine and he's struggling to figure out why... SURELY Vlad has a reason and isn't a mere expansionary dictator. Didn't the end of 'communism' in the Soviet Union destroy Russian Imperialism?

Re the poetry thread, I think you might be in the naughty corner for that one mate. While humorous at times, I believe that a line was crossed, necessitating the thread's demise.

Fortunately poet's day lives on. I celebrated it wholeheartedly before p!ssing off to Vietnam and look forward to showing my respect towards the Canberra institution that is poet's day over the coming months once I return to the nation's capital.

Anyway im currently immersing myself in a book on Icelandic Skaldic poetry at present It really is fascinating stuff.

I don't mind Comrade Paddo per se - I just don't agree with his views.

My Wife born in the USSR and maybe had it a bit better than some having 2 Uncles who were KGB as they were trusted enough to be able to holiday on the Black Sea in Bulgaria , Romania and even the Crimea - Could go to Moscow, Leningrad( St Petersburg) as it was then and Vladivostok even.

Her Grandfather as I mentioned was a Political Commissar during the Great Patriotic War ( WW2) and Father an Aeronautical Engineer

So not always doom and gloom but there were still many problems which even Capitalist democracies some what have.

Would She like a return of the Soviet Union - Yes and and No - The Good bits but not the bad bits and the bad outweighed the good.

Is She Pro Russian - Yes and is She Pro War with Ukraine - No -Not always the case at the Start though - switched when some of her friends volunteered/were conscripted into the Ukraine Military as Medical staff

Ukraine won't defeat Russia unless NATO forces are involved and Russia won't defeat Ukraine is where it sits at - That of course will cause further issues down the track as the end of WW1 showed - The Germans were not defeated in WW1 as was the case in WW2.- Unconditional surrender

Yes Comrade Paddo I do very much acknowledge the Soviet Union efforts in WW2 in the defeat of the Germans and that 80% of German and other Axis forces casualties were on the Eastern Front but the West also played a role.

But as a result of that it doesn't mean the Communism Ideology and System is the beacon on the hill we should look to and implement around the world either - far from it

Timely and well said Andy. At last a voice of sanity. Of course discussion of the wider implications of this thread are what it's all about. Unfortunately some took the path of ideological oppositionism which is really irrelevant as no communists are involved and what if they were? Are we saying "Well if it's nuclear war it'll be Putin's fault"? In the past, I merely stated that I find Marxism intellectually appealing apropos of nothing really but that was seized upon to discredit and divert the essential discussion.
