That's the irony. When you look at politically minded people, it's the far-right that back his views.

Notably his views are pretty narrow in scope. They all fall within the category of pro-Russia/China propaganda or anti-western conspiracy theories that he's sourced from a single blog.

At this point that's all I really know about his 'opinions' (which are borrowed verbatim from the said opinions blog). Other than relying on false representations about how qualified/accomplished the blog's contributors are, there's no real factual or ideological debate here. He simply thinks that the world is completely farked and Russia/China are two utopian states that we should all embrace. When faced with facts about violence / authoritarianism in both countries, he either denies the evidence or blames the USA for provoking them. That or he waffles about some historic war, hoping to debate those facts instead as a distraction. He's got his little cheat sheet and is sticking to it. Hence why my answers have become increasingly short and simple.

    • Yeah....Bob Carr (ex Foreign Minister of Australia) and Paul Keating (ex PM). Geoffrey Raby (ex China diplomat) and today, Ross Gittings have false qualifications and are not worth listening to? I know who's not worth listening to. Go away you blathering pest and take your mate with ya. No, it's not a concession of defeat but please...talk to the hand!

Hey Randy. On the Tucker Carlson thing and Fox's line on the Ukraine....I don't watch it as I've said and so I don't have any idea of how much it is the editorial line but Carlson, though a meathead, is very popular so it's hard to think that Murdoch hasn't okay-ed the line. Here in Oz, and again I don't watch, the line seems to be just the opposite judging by the Tele. One proprietor, two views? I would guess the explanation is that over there he wants to damage Biden and, here, he is at pains not to detract from the popular, positive view of US foreign policy which he champions - WMD and all that.

As noted... all the contributors are fakes who use titles like 'Senior Fellow' or 'The Ambassador' despite having no academic/diplomatic careers.

Sorry if you find the truth denigrating towards these people. Maybe you should choose your sources more selectively next time you go claiming that your opinion is backed up by intellectual heavyweights? Like me, you can Google their names. If they use the title 'Senior Fellow', you can then check 'which university?' If it's a made-up Russian / Chinese university then you know the deal.

FWIW I do this with a lot of columnists, not just Menadue's contributors. You should too as you've fallen for a pretty darn easy trap.

        • I reckon with a bit of work Bob Carr could look like Abe Lincoln as Carr did say he was Lincoln Reincarnated - ''I AM Lincoln reincarnated,'' Bob Carr told a radio interviewer days before the 2003 state election.

Not quite sure if Comrade Paddo knows that Carr is a Americanophile though

TLDR News targets a younger Audience - Gen Z ( Need to change that letter for obvious reasons) - Left wing and are described as "Progressive Socialists" , Pro EU and one Europe /Remainers (i.e those against Brexit).

                  • Bob Carr certainly was an Americanophile. As he told Gore Vidal in debate, "We have a benign view of America in this country". Vidal was, of course, a blistering critic of US policy domestic and foreign and something of an American aristocrat. But I think Carr has changed tune considerably. Recent articles (you know where) are critical of foreign policy regarding China.

I will always read whatever you post Randy. As to whether that site is credible or not, I would have to look at it over a period of time but it looks like it just relays what a variety of, maybe, independent news sources say and the reader makes up his/her own mind.

Despite the protests of Heckle'n'Jeckle, our media overwhelmingly takes its cue from US and UK agencies which in times of crisis is straight out propaganda. If an issue is not of direct concern to them, people are inclined to uncritically accept what they're told but I see that Jeckle has already dismissed it as a Socialist plot to undermine our youth who should be hearing only about Anzacs, the evil Chinese/Russians, the plucky little Ukrainians who are winning and the joys of consumerism.

I'll possibly give it a look but it's not local and that is the most pertinent quality of Pearls and Irritations. Again, P&I is far from being my only source of info (not that it would matter if it were) but for our purposes here on this site, it is credible and not easily dismissed as being contaminated in the way that Jeckle likes to operate ie anything not mainstream is unacceptable and that even goes for mainstream history.

This is what David Williamson, our greatest living playwright, has to say about Menadue's site. "The first thing I do in the morning is reach for my smartphone and open “Pearls and Irritations”, the only place in our media landscape where I can get a well argued and penetrating alternative view to our overwhelmingly conservative mainstream media. Its voice is sorely needed". But, of course, he'd be a raving imbecile wouldn't he?

                      • So Comrade Paddo there is no propaganda on the sites you visit or on Russian TV/Social Media either - Anything and Everything from the West is always propaganda

David Williamson is a playwright and if he wants to frequent those sites you favour he is free to do so in a Democracy . It does not suddenly make these sites a credible source of information though.

It seems you put these people on some sort of pedestal and deem them to be leaders of some sort that we all should be following and believing.

Communist Regimes and leaders forced people to believe what they said via propaganda as they were indoctrinated under a system and ideology that if the party/leader said it then it must be true.- i.e Thought control and Brainwashing and the Cult of Personality.

People in the West generally make their own minds up and form their own views and they tend to disregard the views of so called leaders constantly pushing specific agenda's they don't believe in.

It seems you didn't get the memo

                        • Barter exchange in Russia: you give your son or husband for military service and it's consequences and get a pack of carrots and potatoes. Great deal!

Gees that really is going back to Soviet Times - when the food ran out you maybe were able to obtain some potatoes and or cabbages - well past their use by date- scrape off the mould.

Is this an indictment of the state of the Russian Economy?

Pretty much, which is of course a farce when you realise that the stuff on Stones and Mad Rants is all written by 'Senior Fellows' of astroturfed Russian/Chinese 'universities'. Paeddo is now aware of this and it doesn't phase him one bit.

I note that he's now trying to distract from this by changing the topic to that of the blog's news of the day. Fine, I'll respond as he's jumping up and down looking all excited by this news.

LOLz mate I think the way Rocks and Mad Rants is cheering about his donation message speaks for itself.

Is he a 'raving imbecile'? No.

                              Real questions...
                              1. Is he thorough about checking who the contributors are? No.

                              2. Is he a renowned expert on Russian and Chinese geopolitics? No, he's a storyteller.

                              3. Does the fact a known playwright reads the blog change my reaction to the fact that all the contributors I've Googled are 'Senior Fellows' of fictional 'universities' in Russia or China? Nope.

FWIW Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed in faeries, ghosts and clairvoyants. In his professional life he was a medical doctor and the creator of one of the most famous detectives. He's also known to have acted as a legal representative, which he reportedly excelled in.

                              - Was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a raving loon? No, his works are still adored by many today.

                              - Do faeries exist? No.
