Pure and unadulterated propaganda whipped up by the US right wing media. What might they make of a Chinese gunboat off the Florida Keys? Who do the Americans think they are? They've dubbed themselves "exceptional" in case we haven't noticed that they make the "Rules" and break them whenever convenient. But I've been through all of this.

Of course our "me too" media runs with it seemingly in defiance of the fact that we're pissing on our biggest and best ever trade partner. Where is Australia's national interest in all of this? Surely "running dogs" is the most apt of metaphors and we're that.

You still haven't told me why you haven't yet applied for a Green Card King. Get over there man and get yourself some of that minimum wage action.
China want control over all the South China Sea especially for what's underneath it (oil and gas) and in it (commercial fishing) and are also constructing artificial islands/military bases even on Islands where there are disputed claims to "ownership" - other countries also have island and maritime claims in the South China Sea - Brunia , Taiwan , Vietnam , Philippines. Indonesia , Malaysia and Thailand.

The freedom of navigation operation is to uphold “the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea recognised in international law by challenging restrictions on innocent passage imposed by the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and Taiwan- so not only China

Don't need to as you keep saying Australia is a little America but you being retired have no excuse for not relocating to such countries that align with your political views.

You would be I imagine on the generous Superannuation payments of the old SSS NSW Public Service so you be well off in China based on what they are paid to live on- Shanghai / Beijing (Minimum wage - $400 USD a month - minimum hourly rate - $3.90 USD ) or in Russia (Minimum wage - $263 USD a month) - Higher Minimum wages in Major Cities - Moscow for an example - $362 USD a month.

    • That'd be freedom of navigation that the US is not signatory to wouldn't it? Nothing has been "imposed" by China. You're thinking of the unequal treaties IMPOSED by the West in the 19th Century and the 150 years of humiliation that followed including the full scale invasion of China by Japan in 1937 which, by the way, tied up the bulk of the Japanese military for the duration with obviou"s benefits to Australia at the time. China probably saved us.

I've previously discussed the island forward defence policy. The US has bases ringing China. which has not been at war with anyone for 40 years.

How would little old you know what they "want"? Oh, the US told you? You've read it in the MSM? Weeeell, must be right then.

You've squibbed it! Tell us what you love about the USA now that there's fair chance that you're gonna die for it unless we cut 'em loose. Is it mass shootings, nutty religions, minimum wages, minimal social security, the 1%? C'mon don't be shy....give us all a laugh. You an your dopey maps.

he Chnese minimum wage is fast approaching the American but the Chinese get health care, education and all manner of social welfare. 96% of citizens applaud their govrnment (Harvard University - Brookings Institute - look it up!)

      • Facts presented:

        - Menadue's blog is unreliable as the majority of its contributors are fake 'Senior Fellows' from astroturfed 'universities' in Russia/China.

        - The Pacific (as a collective) has just done a deal with the USA but not China, citing concerns about China's expansionary agenda (contrary to the China love that old Paeddo said was rampant).

        - Dastyari and Carr (amongst others) were paid money to spruik lines from the CCP's playbook.

        - China's just launched a weird spy balloon into US airspace for unknown reasons.

Paeddo's response to the overwhelming facts iiiis [drum roll]...

LOLz mate honestly now you're just being a dick. You've come in claiming to be the smartest man in the room, been defeated in an argument you'd assumed was a cinch, copped the added injury of realising your beloved blog is run by a bunch of biased, unqualified, sell-outs who are on the Kremlin/CCP's payroll and that's all the love I get.

Mate I'm no brainiac but as noted, I'm familiar with the content (comes up all the time in M&A as your clients will know EXACTLY what's going on with certain deals) and read a bit more widely than you (I mean c'mon, you read ONE blog that claims to be awesome because it's edited by Whitlam's old chief of staff and a retired playwright reads it).

Happy for you to read whatever you like. However you're now aware that your blog's full of shyte and people get paid to spruik the Kremlin/CCP in this way. Yes, THIS is the 'propaganda' out there. Bullshyte that is spread in order to to intentionally muddy the water about black and white issues like 'Russia just bombed the shyte outta Ukraine' or 'China massacred a bunch of pro-democracy protestors'. In this case it's fooling guys like you who I'm gonna assume have good intentions, are curious and WANT to know the full story rather than the News Ltd story.

Problem is... you took a wrong turn and are now lost. Rather than being a pompous jerk about it, you really do need to take a look in the mirror and realise you haven't discovered a secret source of truth where all the intellectual giants hang-out. Rather, you've been swindled by a bitter ex-staffer from the Whitlam era and a stack of egotistic, 20-something year old white monkeys who have sold their integrity to the Kremlin/CCP in exchange for fake 'Senior Fellow' titles and a few more views/likes/shares of their pathetic blogs that nobody reads.

Fair enough if you don't wanna publicly admit you're wrong, but this is now beyond ridiculous. You have no ground to stand on and you're just being a tool about it because you realise that all your smartest man in the room rants have been WRONG! Do yourself a favour for 2023, son. Try to read more widely, give that stupid Menadue blog the same level of scepticism you hold towards literally every other media outlet and stop being such an attention seeker by claiming that the world's most brutal dictatorships are all utopia when compared to the rest of the world! They're not. Don't believe me? Move to farking North Korea and send me a postcard why don't ya!!!!

I was over the champaign progressive EC by then anyway (about to quit) so continued to troll them about it, noting they were the ones who held prejudices against working ladies. Yeah, the EC loves old Jizzy the raving ranter

How is it you’ve managed to quote something from the Latrell’s Arrested thread and put it in here? Talk about taking things out of context.

It certainly didn't tie up the bulk of Japanese forces at all and the Japanese had no intention of invading Australia

The official death toll for Japanese soldiers killed in China between 1937 and 1945 is 480,000. The Empire of Japan's military losses in the Second World War are estimated to exceed 2.5 million men

                https://www.statista.com/statistics/...Japanese%20War.

In early 1942, elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) proposed an invasion of mainland Australia. This proposal was opposed by the Imperial Japanese Army and Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, who regarded it as being unfeasible, given Australia's geography and the strength of the Allied defences.

Prime Minister Hideki Tojo also consistently opposed invading Australia. Instead, Tojo favoured a policy of forcing Australia to submit by cutting its lines of communication with the US. In his last interview before being executed for war crimes Tojo stated,

" We never had enough troops to [invade Australia]. We had already far out-stretched our lines of communication. We did not have the armed strength or the supply facilities to mount such a terrific extension of our already over-strained and too thinly spread forces. We expected to occupy all New Guinea, to maintain Rabuk as a holding base, and to raid Northern Australia by air. But actual physical invasion—no, at no time"

We have been over that survey.

                An
organisations with links to the Chinese Communist Party conducted the Survey so it can be absolutely discounted - It wasn't conducted by Harvard or Brookings but by a "Chinese Polling Firm" later to be known as the China based Horizon Research.

Didn't the fact that it took 13 years to poll 32.000 respondents raise any questions about the legitimacy of such " survey" results or are you too far brainwashed to comprehend fact from fiction anymore.

Opinion polling in China is heavily scrutinised by the government, with foreign polling firms prohibited from directly conducting surveys.

The work began in 2003, and together with a leading private research and polling company in China, the team developed a series of questionnaires for in-person interviews. The surveys were conducted in eight waves from 2003 through 2016, and captured opinion data from 32,000 individual respondents.

Buried in a footnote, the authors of the study state that though the survey was designed by the Ash Center, it was in fact implemented by “a reputable domestic Chinese polling firm,” which, like unicorns, doesn’t exist. The Ash Center clearly did not think this firm was reputable enough to publish its name anywhere in the study or anywhere on the Ash Center’s website.

The polling firm in question was later revealed to be Horizon Research, a company founded by Yuan Yue, who was also Horizon’s chairman when the survey was conducted.

Prior to his time polling the Chinese people at the behest of foreign entities (and with the blessing of the Chinese Communist Party),
Yue served an official in the Chinese Ministry of Justice.

Clearly, Horizon Research is a tool of the CCP and a completely biased source

Yep, that sums it up. Same tactic rinse and repeat...

Borders are open now if you wanna move to Russia/China. Tell them you're a fan of John Menadue's blog and you're looking to apply for a gig as a 'Senior Fellow'... I'm sure they'll find a white monkey gig for you. Language skills and knowledge of the subject matter are not required. All that's needed is an 'open mind'.

                  • * Name calling again King tch...tch....

*Your final paragraph at #412 contradicts your delusion that the Japanese China invasion was a sideshow. Troop casualties mean little, China is not the size of Tassie you know? If you're invading, you gotta stay there!

" We never had enough troops to [invade Australia]. We had already far out-stretched our lines of communication. We did not have the armed strength or the supply facilities to mount such a terrific extension of our already over-strained and too thinly spread forces". Yep they had no intention to invade Australia because of lack of troops and logistics because huge numbers were tied up in China fighting our Chinese ally Mao Tse Dong. The irony is that like most on the Right you'd be contending that the US "saved us" so we owe them. You want it both ways.

                    * Oh sure. Harvard University, a doyen of American scholarship and research, and the associated Brooking Institute would be all too keen to damage its international reputation for objectivity and rigor. Maybe they're hand in glove with the CCP? Did you get that stuff from your amateur armchair fact checker with no methodology? Yet another egregious example of your blindness to propaganda. You have "have been over that survey" - they'll be shocked to learn that a raver from the Southern Highlands has exposed their shoddiness. Enough said.

                    * Hey Izzy - Whatever bruh.

PS. There is an interesting piece on P&I today re the "spy" balloon beat up. It's by the US journalist who was first to break the "Russia-gate" story so he has a reputation to preserve.
