Problem is support for the Greens is on the up- the last election was their best ever result. A lacklustre performance of the two major partys contributed to the Greens result- they gained at the expense of Labor and the Teals targeted and gained on the Liberals.

The Australian political landscape is slowly changing every election cycle and the introduction of first time voters. Personally, I miss the old days of 4 TV channels, 2 daily papers, Frank Hyde on 2SM ,people voted Liberal or Labor, a scrum was a contest, you could tap the ball and run if there was no marker and set plays that involved hiding the ball.

Yes it's an odd landscape. I largely consider a rise in minor parties to be indicative of chaotic times (e.g. bushfires, COVID, Trump's insurrection, Russia's invasion and China's stagnating economy).

IMO people have more 'news' sources than ever and seek to blame somebody /something for this chain of events rather than working through them all as individual abnormalities that will level-out over time.

This is reflected in self-described intellectuals like OP who start conversations with strawman arguments like 'if we assume everything you've ever heard from western democracies is bollocks and what Putin/Jinping are telling is the unspeakable truth... then what is the truth?'

I mean sure we can do that exercise, but I don't see the point. To then try and link the beliefs of two dictators to those of a party started by a gay doctor with a heart for trees? Sorry, you've lost me there!

IMO the Greens have moved on from what I described above to being more of a general protest party. Their current agenda seems to involve hating on landlords, trying to lobby the federal government for state-level rent freezes (which the states don't want), attempting to commercialise recreational drugs and painting climate change as being an unavoidable apocalypse. They're a bunch of doomers who have lost faith in the pillars of democracy so just wanna sit back with a bong and sit around blowing smoke about how democracy is a 'failed experiment' and we'd be better off living in a dictatorship (where ironically you would never have the financial or social freedom to kick back, do drugs and criticise your government). I get it, but noting that Lidia Thorpe was their 2IC just a few months ago, I think some people need to lay off green stuff. Bob brown was a valid intellect. The current rabble are a bunch of loonies in search of a cause.

I feel that yours is an extreme view of the Greens, a Sky view really. Suggests that you don't know anything about them, choosing not to know of course. Must avoid contamination mustn't we?

And Randy I think you'll find that they're a growing movement, kids are made very aware of the environment in schools. Better educated people vote for them. Those people talk to other people. Females, our nurturers, are especially impressed.

Interesting snapshot of the past though. Standing level withe ruck in D, kicking duels, unlimited possession was our game in the early 60s. The evolution is astounding and the quality equally so.

Since old mate's been quoted, I'll respond to his claim that 'better educated' people vote with his preferences.

Honestly as somebody who is 'better educated' than most, I find it such a pompous piece of shyte when somebody starts claiming that their political decisions are based on their superior level of education (particularly when on face value all they've done is a few years of teachers college).

I basically collect higher degrees and where's it gotten me? We're still arguing about the same bollocks on a footy forum and going nowhere. Also, literally nobody gives a shyte how many pieces of paper I've got when we're talking about the footy or politics. Why? Because they're irrelevant! Heck. I did most of my studies because I'm stupid, my career was going nowhere and I had the privilege of being able to study (mostly to keep busy while waiting for a good opportunity to pop-up).

Education is a privilege - not a sign of greater wisdom. Sad but true in the world we live in.

Bravo for showing this article I look forward to see how some in here will react or respond to this I was also watching an an interview featuring a former American War General I think who claims Ukraine are getting absolutely smashed on the battle field along with some other very interesting claims that have been mentioned in here and that the media is lying about all of this as well. Im going to try find it when I get some time and put it on here

Let's clarify this Randy. The "oath of allegiance" reference was what I was calling sinister. Like many other things, our media uses such terms to imply that the process is somehow totalitarian and unique to whichever country is the current "enemy" when the reality is that every nation would require something similar. I wasn't questioning the original source but the way that the info was used as propaganda.
