Minus Western propaganda what's the real story on the Ukraine?
Lotta misguided (or paid) people there Sal. One thing that they must be clear on is that Poots has won now and all the protesting in the world won't help.
Wow old Donny has halted military aid to Ukraine. That should bring long lasting peace; force your ally into accepting a bandage for a haemorrhage.
Now we have a larger country invading the smaller country being rewarded. Don't need to be a genius to figure out what Xi would be thinking watching all these events unfold. No need to invade Taiwan, just get Vladamir Gluten to go in and make a deal, he just wants a cut of the little country's wealth and a Nobel Peace prize
Not that America's allies needed reminding ...... but this is the country whom you are pinning your security concerns on. Are we really going to share intelligence with the US? May as well just send the info straight to the Kremlin- saves Tulsi having to forward it on!
Well i guess you can still have a sense of humour.....
* Don't worry too much about the larger monstering the smaller Randy, we are used to that by now - the US invading Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Panama, etc etc and deposing democratically elected governments all around the world.
* Taiwan universally recognised as part of the territory of China - ie not a separate territorial entity.
* I doubt that we have any "intelligence" to share. Not, at least, from those ideological hacks at ASIO who made/are making careers under conservative governments including the ALP. For years they were unable to find Croation right wing saboteurs bombing Yugoslav businesses but by golly they had files full of trade unionists, ALP members and peace activists. Only got their fingers out when Murphy kicked their collective arses and, finally, detected the bombers in under a week.
classic. atm we're living in a world where consistency, accuracy and accountability mean nothing. there will be some who say that the earlier rubio is ai.
Caz is not new He used to post as zac He’s also not young I know this from his posts as Zac He’s always come across as quite the leftist bordering on a communist ideology
i'm not a communist. i mean there have been times through history when small groups have pooled their resources and shared decision making and you might call that a kind of primitive communism and no one would have a problem with that but modern day communism has had two fatal flaws:
marx, had a pseudo-scientific belief that a working class revolution was inevitable. that has become increasingly ridiculous as the battle between labour and capital has seen wins for labour within the system; and
lenin's idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat where it was only the communist party who truly understood what the working class wanted (but there was too much dictatorship and not enough proletariat)
not to mention that the west is too individualistic for it to work here. no surprise that communism took roots in less individualistic asia
I agree, we're probably too well off a lot of us. Just a couple of things, Marx wasn't a pseudo scientist he was a philosopher who claimed that his work had scientific basis. Observation - hypothesis - evidence. Dictatorship of the proletariat was also a Marxist concept though Lenin implemented it soon after the revolution but suspended it during the counter revolution. What we see in China now is Leninist. The Politburo is elected from the Party Congress itself democratically elected by the 90 million membership of the Party. 96% of the people are very happy with that.
mmm 96% - You're not quoting that survey again that took 13 years with with only 32,000 surveyed - What happened to the 4% - sent off to a re-education camp one assumes
Ah yes old Marx with his "The Workers revolutionary overthrow of capitalism replaced by communism" bollocks
Plastic Lenin's Dictatorship "centralised control by the state and Communist party, political repression, state atheism, collectivisation and use of labour camps" (Gulag)
Ah yes the Glavnoe Upravlenie Lagerei ( Gulag) - 84 Gulag Under Lenin and 30,000 Gulag under Stalin.
The worst ones were in the Kolyma Region ( Siberia) - Magadan Oblast- Temperatures as low as minus 60 - Those poor folk had to build the R504 - Kolyma Highway- 2031 km's - construction from 1932 to 1953 - Better known as the Road of Bones - up to 1 million died building it - estimated there was a body buried beneath this highway every metre - hence the name
Im doing my best. Just got back from taking the missus and daughter to May Kwai restaurant in Rose Bay ........ Rowan Dean on Sky said we may as well get used to eating Chinese thanks to Albo
Sounds like being a political activist passionately agitating for the overthrow of the government wasn't such a good idea in the same way that it is not a good idea here or in the UK or the USA.

96% sounds like it would be close to heaven on earth! Makes me wonder how many Chinese have given up their Chinese citizenship to become Australians compared to Australians renouncing their citizenship to become Chinese residents- on a ratio basis of course (remembering China doesn't recognise dual citizenship).

For us, our ingrained racism would militate against the very thought but the Chinese diaspora is ages old and, although racist themselves, are much better at adapting.
Do I sense a hint of sarcasm? The 96% comes from a Brookings Institute (Princeton) world survey of satisfaction with government. Hotly but unconvincingly disputed by Sal.

Feels like a cowboy world at the moment. That consistency, accuracy and accountability seems to rest with China. A calm, confident presence that has brokered peace deals and brought prosperity via the BRI. BRICS, too, continues to grow and in the not distant future the dollar will cease to dominate globally. Who'd wanna be around then?

If we've got any sense we're already more than used to it. Have you tried Kingsford? Andy also might have? Asian smorgasbord.
