Not sure how this relates to Putin’s astounding longevity in popularity at election time. Are you suggesting he is the one and only Russian politician who sees this which makes him a God like or Taylor Swift type figure to the Russian masses? Is he the only person for 20 plus years now capable of running some anti west / anti America rhetoric? Menzies, Hawke, Howard had long stints as PM but in the end they lost some or all of their aura with the masses. Not forgetting Hawke’s situation was a bit different. 87% popularity after 20 years and no competition?

Putin, with his so-called 87% vote, lags behind al-Assad: 2000 (99.74%), 2007 (99.82%), 2014 (92.20%), and 2021 (95.19%).
There is no way in true democracies that one "candidate" would receive such a percentage of votes; this only occurs when such countries are run and controlled by authoritarian and totalitarian regimes with a single despot in charge.

The lightweights and toadies at News Ltd are cutting up rough about Keating's position on China (which, if recent surveys are to be believed, is a majority position) and his meeting with the Chinese foreign minister. They're fairly itching to call him a traitor but they know that they'll have the arse sued off them. As it is he's won every round. They'd be filthy. Go Paul!

Sorry but I'm gonna keep dragging you right back to your first point. You say that the CCP did not stop pro-democracy protests using military police armed with tanks. Further... you claim China's open and transparent about what happened, whereas the rest of the world is obfuscating the truth.
I ask you once more. If what you say is true then why has China banned people from mentioning the Tiananmen Square Massacre? Also, why should anybody trust a source with such an atrocious record in regards to such basic freedoms?

A bit like "Honest academic opinion says that he would have had a similar result no matter who ran in opposition"???? Still waiting on the source for that beauty
Interesting article in WA Today by former diplomat Jon Richardson regarding the ABC airing of a British documentary by Sean Langan called Ukraine’s War: The Other Side, I tuned into ABC iview and watched the doc in question. Surely it's not the same documentary that you referred to as "last night's anti Russia 4 Corners"?

I thought that the 4 Corners was insipid and managed to include vox pops critical of the war. Funny but we never see such in Ukraine supporting "docos". It was warm coverage at best with no mention of why they were fighting. It did, however, feature a front line Doctor lauding Putin. Apparently not all of the Russian people feel enslaved and yearning to be "free" but the Putin portrait, in itself, was damning to the average sheeple. Here, we were subtly asked to recognise was the cause of it all, otherwise why was it included?Such is the demonisation that has been effectively done.
Don't know what else I can say to you. Clearly, any alternative to the Western narrative is inconceivable to you. The cognitive dissonance too much to bear. Does he fact that the US has been at war for 95% of its existence not raise some sort of red flag? Or is it "Don't matter, I like the music and the movies too much".Last edited by Paddo Colt 61; 03-21-2024, 11:18 AM.

Yes, it was just a remark Andy, the report was benign. I meant no criticism of you. I was only mentioning that among the giant Western news services, Reuters is up there for bias.

You are not listening to my point however. Putin cannot be the only person aware of this history. If the masses are aware of it such that it is factored into their voting at every election than surely there must be other candidates able to tap into this? But no Vlad is the only one. Then of course there's the fact that he hasn't stopped the West or US continuing to demonise Russia through the media. So why wouldn't the Russian people welcome an alternative who might have a different strategy to turn this situation around? In our democracy when the leader fails to deliver what is foremost in the electorate's minds they are voted out. Also, are there no domestic issues the Russians care about or do they spend their entire existence ranting about the West?
Menzies was elected for 20+ years and there were certainly better than him but our masses took the advice of Mr. Packer and our privately owned media for all that time, Whitlam just scraping in finally. And the Western Suburbs were sewered at last. The Sheeple apparently didn't want that sort of thing previously.
Do you mean a candidate who would not be so hostile? I think history has taught the Russian people a stern lesson regarding the West's mendacity beginning in 1917. Putin is popular precisely because he is blunt with the West.
You are mostly disingenuous MR. You're not looking for answers, you're looking for chinks. Despite all, you can't overcome the perceptions that you've been fed over a life time. Putin the "murderer" but let's overlook the US ally Saudi's assassination of a critical journalist, the extra judicial assassinations that the US goes in for or the Waterboarding of enemies. Or the internal "suppression" of unfriendly media when the US can ban Tic Toc. It's hypocrisy gone mad but it doesn't seem to enter your consciousness.Last edited by Paddo Colt 61; 03-21-2024, 01:13 PM.

You might think but it is the Russian people who decide these things. Some on here think it's all rigged in Russia but plainly it isn't or no more than an American election with its Super Packs and rule by the rich.
I know very little about Putin so what "bad" can I say. It is difficult to find any objective discussion in Western media. Professor J Sachs is the only non biased commentator that I have read yet the Global South sees him as something of a hero. I certainly wouldn't entertain hypocritical finger pointing. Socrates told us to be skeptical of everything.
As with Russia generally, I use my loaf and I read alternative media. I don't jump on mindless bandwagons.
