A calm, confident presence that has brokered peace deals and brought prosperity via the BRI. BRICS, too, continues to grow and in the not distant future the dollar will cease to dominate globally. Who'd wanna be around then?
the chinese aren't angels and over-do the great power stuff - why lay claim to islands that they could easily forgo without losing face - but they are comparatively steady. if i'm taiwanese and like independence but don't want a war i'd now be more likely to be less opposed to fighting for independence. if the u.s. is unreliable, what's the point?

Might the Islands issue be a strategic move on China's part? You know forward defence ringed as China is with US military bases. As a Taiwanese you should have some sense of Chinese history and you should know that China hasn't been involved in conflict for 30 years and that it is not historically expansionist.

Supplying Ukraine is only prolonging the inevitable.
Thats fair enough Eddie, as long you apply the same logic everytime a superpower invades a minnow.

So how would you feel about, for example, China deciding to invade PNG, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, East Timor....we going to be cool with that? Not much we can do to stop it, so why bother when its inevitable?

Enough with the aggro China stuff. China hasn't been at war for 40 years and that stouch with Vietnam lasted one month. Other than that China has never been expansionist. The US is the nation that has been at war for 95% of its existence.

The point is a fair one but the China example isn't. Substituting the US would be closer to reality but, ironically, most Aussie meatheads wouldn't mind US interference, they're used to it, it's entirely normal.

Hes too busy fuming at the UK PM getting involved and coaching Z how to deal with the Mango Mussolini's weak self esteem. It hit a chord, JD Vance responded by saying that the UK was "a random country that hadn't been in a war for 30 or 40 years". Nothing like a forgetful allie

As a teacher, you would understand that sometimes you need to adjust how you present information to ensure your audience fully grasps the material.

                    • The message to US allies is obvious: they cannot be trusted.

Russia attacks Ukraine's energy supplies as US cuts its access to satellite images
                      By Associated Press
                      10:41am Mar 8, 2025

Russia attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with dozens of missiles and drones during the night, officials said, hobbling the country's ability to deliver heat and light to its citizens and to power weapons factories vital to its defences.

The overnight barrage—which also pounded residences and wounded at least 10 people—came days after the US suspended military aid and intelligence to Ukraine to pressure it into accepting a peace deal being pushed by the Trump administration. Without US intelligence, Ukraine's ability to strike inside Russia and defend itself from bombardment is significantly diminished.

The US government said it halted Ukrainian access to unclassified satellite images that had been used to help it fight back against Russia.
