Western capitalism has a limited shelf with its disregard for the planet, the Globalization race to the bottom, wealth disparity (10% ofthe US population hold 72% of the wealth) and corruption (Zelensky fired 11 more government officials under pressure from the US to curb corruption and this when the Ukraine sheeple are fighting for their lives. China is Capitalist but they do things differently. Ukraine has deservedly the reputation of being the most corrupt nation in Europe.

There was and is just as much anti Soviet propaganda and distortion in the West during the Cold War and presently. I lived through it and believed it. Vietnam opened my eyes re what was the Great Satan.

Of course rifle range targets would be American - it offends you? What about "gook", "slope", "raghead"? The sense of siege that the US effected during the Cold War must have been terrifying. Her country was ringed with offensive US missile silos. Things were pretty one sided and such aggression had begun in 1918. You seeing the US as benign is laughable. Your wife should be proud of her heritage. The USSR won the war against Nazism at a cataclysmic cost, one from which it never recovered and the roots of that catastrophe were in inter war anti Communism. US military training used target images of Japs and Germans - pretty standard military practice.

To suggest that this war was unprovoked and that there was no concern re NATO moving east is fanciful to the point of mendacity. As I've said, Fraser warned us about the very same thing. Keating has and is writing about it too.

What is the sequence again when humans face change that is perceived as threatening to powerful interests? First they use ridicule, then violence and, finally, there is acceptance.

As usual MR you miss the point. Your sensitivity to rebuke always trumps your reason or any degree of self examination. You are without doubt a decent person but you will always be a timid follower. You shouldn't worry about that too much, women are only just beginning to find their confidence. For 40 years now many conservative women railed against feminism and change in gender roles, and still do out of fear of change and lack of confidence. Woman up please.
