Minus Western propaganda what's the real story on the Ukraine?
The institutional origins of Carr's China-whatever approach can be found in the history of ACRI. In 2014 a prominent Chinese businessman in Sydney made a significant donation to UTS to establish a new China institute. The same donor subsequently boasted in public that he personally selected Carr to run the operation. Carr emerged as Australia's most prominent and vocal public advocate for Xi Jinping's China.
...
Carr is just one of an expanding cohort of retired foreign officials competing for preferment in a competitive sub-field of Sinology that Hong Kong China scholarDavid Bandurski calls "the science of Sycophantology". As a rule, practitioners know very little about China but enough to appreciate that public acclaim for its Communist leadership and expressions of regret over the failure of the West to "understand" China can open doors and land opportunities. They are lavishly hosted on visits, offered lucrative board positions on Chinese entities, generously supported in their academic positions and presentations, and expected at a minimum to return the favour by complimenting their hosts.
Some more quality investigative journalism from a reputable, mainstream source.
Australian Financial Review is a well credentialed right wing publication owned by 9 Entertainment the CEO of which is Peter Costello (remember him - that champion of the people - rich people). Michael Stutchbury the Editor in Chief was formerly high up on Murdoch's payroll at the Australian and is a prominent Sinophobe.
Recently the Fin (AFR) copped a bucketing from the ABC's Media Watch over the prominence that it gave to a story about an Asian sweat shop worker who rose to be CEO of the company for which she had formerly sweated. The report was a hoax (where was blind Freddy when needed?) but the FIN had failed a basic check because the "story" so closely aligned with the views of its right wing cheer squad - some source whose opinion piece on Bob Carr you're quoting there buddy.
Williamson is more that a "story teller", he is a public intellectual whose plays critically reflect Australian society. Your puerile efforts to diminish the P&I website are becoming very tedious but keep it up, I'm sure that the obsession has generated some interest in those who might otherwise not looked at it. I could not have contrived a better outcome.

So what's your point?
1. AFR has its pet biases to be aware of (largely relating to freemarket economics, which isn't inherently bad) and I'm not making out that John Fitzgerald is an 'intellectual heavyweight'. However, he's made a factual reporting that Bob Carr was offered money and status to back China (which Carr has not disputed). Notably Fitzgerald is a professor in Chinese studies at Swinburne Uni and has won the Ernest Scott Prize of the Australian Historical Association for writing about China. He's a recognised academic on the topic, unlike the sources of material you've been quoting.
2. I honestly don't know much about the said playwright or care. He's allowed to read whatever the fark he wants. This doesn't make the authors any more or less reliable. The fact remains that the contributors (God bless the poor readers) are mostly 'Senior Fellows' from fake universities in Russia / China that have been astroturfed by the said governments. This is why I don't see your single source of info (a blog) as being a reliable source of analysis.
What...you can't see my point? Or you don't wanna see it?
I don't care who Fitzgerald is either but the quote is choc full of emotive anti China language - "The same donor subsequently boasted (this jerk thinks he fooled us big time) in public that he personally selected (he knew a flunky when he saw one) Carr to run the operation" (Carr was in it up to the eyeballs)..."Xi Jinping's China" (and we all know what that is don't we? Murdoch's told us often enough)...."the science of Sycophantology" (they're all woke Chink lovers) .."regret over the failure of the West to "understand" (a bit of sarcasm always masks the truth)China can open doors". They are lavishly hosted on visits, offered lucrative board positions (they're all just in it for the money) on Chinese entities, generously supported in their academic positions (they're all unworthy lightweights, no bodies and Senior Fellows who couldn't cut it on their own merits) and "expected at a minimum to return the favour" ( they're cunning bastards those slant eyes) by complimenting their hosts".
See folks, that's how one identifies propaganda, it's heavy on the appeal to emotion.
The subject was a proposed Chinese cultural study institute at Sydney Uni which our disastrous former right wing government with the connivance of our right wing media painted as being subversive on no grounds whatsoever. China has been at war with no one for 40 years and has one refuelling base in Djibouti, has military strength a fraction of that of world's greatest warmonger and has never needed to be expansionary.
You, of limited intellect despite your own lofty assessment, are trying, with the help of a biased quote from the AFR, to paint Bob Carr as being subversive rather than even handed. The very same things that Fitzgerald writes could be said about any US/Ukraine booster but we can be sure that the writer's tone would be much different in that case. Anyway, given the current hostility generated by the Empire, should Australians not be encouraged to learn more about modern day China? It's pretty impressive after all.
Again, please keep up the P&I cancel stuff, I'm sure there are a people who are now curious to check it out ....and it's free and just a click away.

Comrade Paddo I am not sure why you always consider yourself the smartest in the room and an intellectual giant when you are completely the opposite - A mental midget who has been brainwashed on left-wing and far-left propaganda, conspiracy theories, anti-Western and capitalist ideology and is unable to think for himself.
As I have said many a time if you so dislike the West why are you still living here - move to China, Russia or North Korea to be with your kind of people.
1. If you're adding content to a quote (including multiple racist terms in your case), then you use square brackets. Your 'quote' is almost unrecognisable and contains a bunch of racist terms that I object to.
2. It's truely odd what triggers you. You seem to have trouble with a China expert identifying that an ex-premier is using standard lines outta the CCP's playbook (which they'll use verbatim at various multilateral forums). This is where a bit of expertise in the field goes a long way...
[QUOTE=King Salvo; As I have said many a time if you so dislike the West why are you still living here - move to China, Russia or North Korea to be with your kind of people.
Oh yeah? And why would I leave all my Chook Pen mates and miss out on the 2023 Premiership? Answer that why don't you? Go the RWB - same as Russia. (and the US come to think of it). And I'm not living in the West, I'm living in Asia/Pasifika same as you.
Anyway, why don't you go live in the US seeing as you love it so much? You'd be most welcome. I presume that you're not black.

* Oh ..poor diddums
* "Truly" has no "e". (always the educator).
* You're an ex Private school mummy's boy Izzy. I just love the way that you throw in the odd "carnt" and "fark" to effect a kind of Home Boy knockabout persona that's light years away from the multis, the restaurants and the "beach" house. Come to think of it, the whole package shouts "Fake!!"
On the other hand when nongs are talking to nongs obscenities usually work a treat. Neither know much about anything and finding themselves lost and with nothing to say worth hearing they do find familiarity and comfort in the odd "carnt" and "fark". Like the unnecessary Apostrophe before every "s" that ends a word (Salvo's trademark) it is a badge of the inarticulate worn proudly by some. In fact, he who swears the most usually is considered the winner of the debate. Just sayin'.

Perfect summary. Paeddo's been proven to have been relying on an opinions blog that publishes pro-Russia/China opinions from fake 'Senior Fellows' of fake universities for some time now. He doesn't just read it, he actively promotes it and claims that it makes him the smartest man in the room, which has proven to be a major error of judgment.
IMO Paeddo's hyperbole and religious-style commitment to this darn blog is his undoing. Once you've claimed that you are THE smartest guy in the room because you know an exclusive source of wisdom, where intellectual giants provide next-level analysis then you've gotta cough-up! In Paeddo's case he hilariously didn't realise that the blog's contributors were not actually 'Senior Fellows', but in fact fakes who take the fake honourifics from astroturfed institutions.
Next step... now that it's been proven that the blog's unreliable, we're now discussing examples of persons who have taken cash / honourifics in exchange for pushing a pro-China / Russia agenda (straight from government playbooks). Shanghai Sam and Bob Carr are two prominent examples that have surfaced. This is where propaganda's at though!
There was a good article last week on why (despite Paeddo's assertion that the Pacific all loves China), the USA secured an all of Pacific deal when China couldn't. He may wish to read this analysis and broaden his understanding of China's actions in the Pacific (though I know that you find venturing outside your comfortable little blog very difficult, bruh).
I thought Comrade Paddo would be voicing his disgust at the US for shooting down the Chinese "Civilian" Balloon - mmm that accidentally flew into US Airspace
One of Comrade Paddo's favourite Despots in Chairman Mao must be rolling in his memorial hall with all those billionaires in China second only to USA in numbers of Billionaires - Only CCP Leaders, Officials and lackeys were supposed to be rich not the average comrade.
Looks like they will be making a hasty exit from China though to protect their wealth from Chinese Commo Party Hands,
China may as well throw in the commo towel and become a free democratic country as what's the point of continuing on with this communist charade any longer.
Mmmm....not a mention in the MSM, including the ABC, of the regular US surveillance flights along the China coast and the endless 7th Fleet maneuvers in the South China Sea. Pure and unadulterated propaganda whipped up by the US right wing media. What might they make of a Chinese gunboat off the Florida Keys? Who do the Americans think they are? They've dubbed themselves "exceptional" in case we haven't noticed that they make the "Rules" and break them whenever convenient. But I've been through all of this.
Of course our "me too" media runs with it seemingly in defiance of the fact that we're pissing on our biggest and best ever trade partner. Where is Australia's national interest in all of this? Surely "running dogs" is the most apt of metaphors and we're that.
You still haven't told me why you haven't yet applied for a Green Card King. Get over there man and get yourself some of that minimum wage action.
