A video for old mate. Worth sharing as a simple example of objective reporting. Includes features that Menadue's junk never will such as:
- Stories from people who've actually lived in North Korea / China and then defected (without receiving $$$ from foreign governments to do so).
- Solid attempts to cover the negative sides of the story, making it clear that many of these people are poor and mentally broken human beings.
- The reporter's name is given, but no attempt is made to glorify her status as an intellectual human being. Rather, the content speaks for itself and if you research her you'll quickly realise she's a highly decorated journo.Comment

Watched 5 minutes - that was enough. I'm not an expert on North Korea but I do know that the US did its level best to bomb it back to the Stone Age (as is its custom) during the Korean War. The unprecedented volume of poisons, defoliants used, rendered enormous, previously agricultural tracts, unable to produce food (evah!) not to mention the dreadful death toll and the grotesque incidence of birth defects that continues today. The US, however, did not "win" the war but it did succeed in dividing Korea and has since waged an unrelenting propaganda war as it does with Cuba, Venezuela and upteen other "enemies". It is, after all, "exceptional" and it tells us that.
The "dating" show that opens he clip is an egregious propaganda platform using consumer goods in much the same way as new shiny kitchens were used to enchant the women of East Germany in the early 50s. The irony was that, in the US, FDR has only a decade or so previously began electrifying the rural South (The Tennessee Valley). Bringing electric power to the abject poor of the region who still labour for a starvation minimum wage and serve as economic conscripts for the Empire's endless wars. No shiny kitchens for them and still none. You can shut off consideration of all of that but it doesn't change the truth of it.
Revved up by our propaganda MSM, many of us lament the civilian toll in Ukraine but we never even heard of the cataclysmic destruction of North Korea nor did we even wince at the destruction of Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan. Putin a "war criminal"? Gen Macarthur and Air Force General Curtis Lemay, who wanted to use the A-bomb in Korea on top of the ocean of Napalm, both put Putin in the shade as does Kissinger who bombed the bejeezus out of North Vietnam during peace talks.
Who are the "defectors" anyway - the previously petty bourgeoisie and the rich who were never going to fit in? There were probably just as many American servicemen who "defected" to China and North Korea during the war, most of them black.
What Issy's post does, however, is give the lie to dopey ol' Carlos' claim that the ABC is "biased" - You betcha it is and this program is a prime example along with its everyday coverage of Ukraine and Russia. Ol' Carlo gettin' offended by "Left bias" but unable to point to any, apart from a Coronation of all things - blokes dressing up in funny hats and calling on Gods and stuff. If it, indeed was ridiculed, it deserved to be, endlessly.
But what is this conflation of the Ukraine situation with Communism all about? Communism doesn't come into it. Nothing more than an attempt to muddy the water for mugs who, blissfully ignorant after years and years of propaganda, are fixated on what they've come to hold as truth.
