Lol, but seriously where is he? It's very unbecoming of him to just bail out of this thread and all. But in all sincerity, I do hope he's ok as it's unusual for him not to be here posting in this thread for over a week now.

          Haha, speak for yourself Zac!
There'll be a few people on here happy to see him go I guess, but I never had a problem with paddo - apart from his Putin love and inability to use the quote function properly.

I forgot about his Burgarse love. Still, it’s all the different personalities which keep the Chookpen interesting.

              • I think PC61 is too busy running an election campaign. That boy from Bronte isn’t gonna elect himself! Remember, he’s one of us

Boy from Brontë? Are you referring to ScoMo? I’m confused. Paddo supporting ScoMo doesn’t sound quite right.

Makes zero sense actually to anyone who’s read any of Paddo’s political ramblings on here.

Just assumed you'd know, being the 'analytical' one and all."
Meanwhile, Russia's 'collateral damage' is in the thousands (tens of thousands?) and they've only been there for a month. I note you don't give a cr@p about any of that.

I didn't notice this first time round but it clearly identifies your black and white view - the USA right or wrong.

On collateral, the US has hundreds of thousands on its hands in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Yemen, South America and before them Vietnam. Talk about partisan chutzpah. You're an old Cold War spear carrier.

I can imagine what your response to a Russian claim that civilian casualties were the result of reports of "terrorist" activities in the areas affected by offensives, which is possibly the case in one way or another, yet you stake the US "explanation" without a hint of embarrassment. Our news is sourced from the US and Britain. None of our media is where the action is. The lightweight Rubenstein- Dunlop on the ABC sends Ukrainian reports every night. Like my former student he's in a 5 Star somewhere safe.

The last holdout unit now in Mariupol is the notoriously fanatical Azov Battalion - ethnic cleansers nicknamed the Exterminators and they have 1000 civilians as human shields (no doubt all Russian ethnically). These are Nazis (Google them) but our media (US media) insists on calling them "soldiers". They're the SS reborn.

I have been following posts from an independent journo in Ukraine for a few weeks now. He shows a totally different view to what's happening than the MSM. He has now 'disappeared'.

                          • Yep we're suckers. We get US doctored reporting every evening and our gormless media lot dutifully toe the line. Last night's SBS News had displaced Ukrainians saying ironically, "Thank you USA". The glamour girl English twit reporter was horrified.

If media had been honest about the causes of the war from the get go our people may have reflected on our relationship with the US. After all, Malcolm Fraser (of all people) warned us about the relationship. Yet here we are being belcose with our largest trading partner on behalf of our "great friend" - some friend.

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day and again we'll wallow in emotional Anzacery. At the turn of the 20th Century Australia was renowned as a social laboratory, a working man's paradise. Workers everywhere admired our unique minimum wage, our 8 hour working day, our secret ballot, our workers' compensation. Lenin wrote a treatise about it and for the most part it was an age of reform brought about by Trade Unions. Should that part of our history not be celebrated and appreciated? Instead we have this cult of Anzac, a reverence for an episode in which 300 thousand volunteered to prosecute a British Trade war against Germany much like the one that the US is perpetrating on China today. Those people who enlisted volunteered, service was not compulsory and two referenda during the war ensured that remained the case. They didn't fight for us nor for freedom. They fought for reasons best known to themselves.

Following the war the Anglo establishment here saw the perfect opportunity to eclipse the egalitarian achievement of organised labour by playing on the emotions, racism and general naivety of the populace by promoting the myth of ANZAC. No way Conservatives would acknowledge the vastly superior contribution of working people to the welfare of all. And we're still stuck with it - it looked like dying out in the 60s but Johnny Howard in his history and culture wars breathed life back into it with huge expenditure that is ongoing. We are Sheeple. no getting away from that.

                            • live and let live paddo? a country has to honour its fallen dead and those who served. yeah, april 25 wouldn't be my choice but the day shouldn't be just about remembering gallipoli, rather all returned soldiers and those who didn't return.
in the same way the labour day holiday isn't just about the 40 hour day but also about the contribution workers have made to the country.
not sure why we celebrate the queen's birthday but that's another story.
no doubt some kiss the flag patriots go over the top on anzac day but most people have the right spirit. it's a friendly day to be out and about.
