at least he didn't do it in Thirteen's thread like he normally would do..or when Jack's Fur Coat would start a tribute thread..I'm sick of people who have to be the loudest or smartest guy in the room..I just got promoted to a new position at work and even though I've worked for the bank on and off since the 1990's and am the oldest in the team, I don't have law degrees like some of my team and every day I say to them I love working with people better educated than myself so that I can still continue to learn and improve my skills and in turn give them the support they need. . Mind you, 2 of them were off googling the word 'microfiche' when I explained that's what we had to do in the old days at the bank at Bondi Junction to look up 'passbook accounts'.......and no I didn't use an abacus...I'm old but not that old...

      • Love it Count. Big fan of Larry David and the intelligence of the writing. Very little hypocrisy escapes him but the dills don't like it.

I used to see drongos at the footy with hand on heart during the anthem. Not long before the young Sheeple will adopt "Thank you for your service" along with "Sorry for your loss", "Sarah Moaney", "Listen up" etc, etc, etc. We're entering a dark age in thrall to the barbarians. I'm drawing a red line!

          • curb your enthusiasm is very clever. i believe a lot of it is improvised - they have perhaps a page of episode outline and let the actors take it from there.
some of the time the larry david character is clearly and deliberately in the wrong, but some of the time he's spot on. most of the time it's more grey.

            • [QUOTE=Johnny Brass; Congratulations on a new low Paddo for slinging crap on the Anzacs.....

Not slinging anything at the Anzacs, just slinging it at myth makers especially when the myth is designed to encourage people to think of themselves as citizens of a warrior nation which in turn feeds into the obscene expenditure on "Defence" and the willingness to invade other countries on behalf of the most bellicose nation on Earth. It was no accident that the former copper Dutton yesterday warned that we had to prepare for war and Smoko drew the red line at the Solomons. War with China? Really? The populous archipelago to our north has no problem with China and nor should we but the US has.

What about some truths about the yokels who traipsed off to war on Britain's behalf all those years ago when the country was Anglo - Irish? Did you know for example that the 1st AIF had the highest rate of desertion in the British Army. In all, more than 22, 000 deserted over the course of the war, many of them forming armed gangs which terrorised French villagers.

Mortified by the situation, Tory politicians here at home agreed with the British army's call for the death penalty which uniquely did not apply to Australian volunteers even in the case of desertion. Enlistment had all but collapsed as casualty figures ballooned and no doubt would have not picked up if Australians were shooting Australians.

After the war many men enlisted in a British expeditionary force which invaded revolutionary Russia on the side of the old aristocracy, killing ordinary Russians much like themselves one would think. Many other men returned to the Fascist RSL out of which came the reactionary paramilitary White Armies organised by the officer class and spent the 20s and 30s rioting and beating up Trade Unionists. Tories who opposed the building of the Sydney harbour Bridge during the Depression encouraged White Army elements to invade the opening ceremony in 1932 to deprive the "Socialists", who built it, of the glory.

We, or more appropriately right wing Australia, has used the Anzac myth for all it's worth and people need to be conscious of that.

              • The postcard shows 10 Australian Diggers in their slouch hats and World War I uniforms grinning for the camera. But it was the message on the other side that must have infuriated the army's chief military policeman at the French port of Le Havre.

Paddo has Lenin and Stalin posters at home to remember the "good old days" of the red devils. You cannot imagine anyone being worse than Hitler but Stalin certainly was.

Was Stalin assassinated ? Beria Stalin's head of the NKVD was executed and some believe he poisoned Stalin as Beria was on Stalin's execution list

Its hard to imagine what goes on in so called intelligent peoples heads that they would openly show support for such people . I truly dont get Paddo and Im sure hes not a bad person but from 95% of the population its clear that the beliefs of these people are wrong

                      • I have never written about Stalin. King has put words into my mouth on that score. On other matters, the views of 95% of the populace are based on propaganda or on conventional wisdoms or on something they've heard that have no basis in fact. How many times was Alan Jones fined/sued for misrepresentation? Could you believe anything that Murdoch had to say about The Greens? The US said about China? People on here say about Souffs supporters?

                        • I was the one who raised Stalin a few weeks back, in my counter claim to Paddo's dig at my alleged indoctinated perspective and how unbecoming it was. Unsurprisingly my post was completely ignored.

It continued to go in a very circular motion for some time. I reckon it could have actually finished at least 12 pages ago myself.

                              • Well when yez repeated the emotional stuff from the tabloid news and used it to screen the conventional ingrained and thoughtless bias against anyone whom the MSM labels an enemy, I could go no further.

It's the kind of comfortable Sheeple mind set that hates to be disturbed and it's passed on generation to generation in houses with no books and few interests other than fanging around in speed boats wrecking the delicate ecology of our rivers and lakes on weekends, betting with mates, smelling the gasoline at Mt Panorama, coveting a new SUV and just plain greed. And whenever an issue disturbs their commercial TV addiction, it's "What's the Tele got to say about it?"

Consequently, '08 can imagine he's a conservation guy while voting for a party which is anti environment. The God botherer King Salvo can mindlessly slag off at Communist states despite the FACT that the US Brookings Institute's surveys show that 95% of the population of China is happy with the way that they are governed or that the poor of Venezuela have twice overcome US initiated violent coup attempts which were fully abetted by a media owned by the rich. And, despite "sanctions" it's government still endures.

Others allow the frighteners to be applied to their sensitive areas over China in the Solomons (or China anytime) by a "government" which leased the Port of Darwin for 99 years to the Chinese government - not in our neighborhood, HERE!

Last night's ABC news reported inflation on the way and interest rates rising, Health workers in Aged Care and Teachers requiring more pay, the NDIS underfunded and a huge National debt to service. One way to "afford" what is needed in ESSENTIAL services would be declare ourselves neutral and cut military spending plus clear out all of the entitlements of the rich like getting a tax refund when no tax is paid in the first place. It can't happen because a US citizen who has a near media monopoly which acts as another political party would pillory any such debate. He, a devil if ever there was one, has us by the proverbials with no way out because 85% still wouldn't know arse from elbow politically.
