I have never written about Stalin. King has put words into my mouth on that score. On other matters, the views of 95% of the populace are based on propaganda or on conventional wisdoms or on something they've heard that have no basis in fact. How many times was Alan Jones fined/sued for misrepresentation? Could you believe anything that Murdoch had to say about The Greens? The US said about China? Maybe? After being far less successful than he'd expected, Vlad's now resorting to conscription.

The global economy's starting to recover from the shocks caused by having to avoid Russian oil. Prices are going back to the usual and Russia can only make so much money dealing exclusively with China and North Korea. IMO at some point China's gonna get sick of Russia and accept that there's no point backing a losing horse through its blatant acquiescence.

Russia's elite have had their assets frozen and they're finding it harder to live lives of wealth / luxury in free countries using their Russian money.

If Vlad alienates too many of the elite through deaths, conscription, strategic blunders and poor economic strategy then I think we'll see an end to all this.

The other day I went to a shop that sells 'coffee' (holiday for queen's death... my usual was closed).

Over a period of about an hour the owner raved at me about how Ukraine's evil because their church is trying to make Russian boys become gay.

I ordered a chai latte because the guy's coffee s*x. Instead I got an hour of Paddo-style, pro-authoritarianism rants and a cappuccino that was way too hot / bitter. Sigh. Fortunately the day improved after that event.

A remarkable recent article in Newsweek, has documented concisely and convincingly how: “Nearly 90 Percent of the World Isn’t Following Us on Ukraine” – and what consequences follow from this.

Adding gravitas, the writers, Michael Gfoeller and David H. Rundell have each previously held senior advisory posts at elevated levels within the broad US governance system. They begin by highlighting how the global system of alliances is visibly shifting “and nothing has made this change clearer than the varied reactions to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine” noting that “87% of the world’s population has declined to follow us”.

They explain how alignments well outside of the US-preferred zones of geopolitical interaction are conspicuously advancing, for example within, OPEC Plus, the BRICS group, the SCO (Shanghai Cooperative Organisation) and China’s BRI (Belt and Road Initiative). The writers also note why trust in the American Dollar’s role as the global reserve currency has been damaged. This article adds weight to the view that we may be witnessing the end of the beginning of a long monetary unwinding process. Meanwhile, the US is now exporting high interest rates globally and “recession fears stalk much of the world”. The writers conclude that, “[T]he West is rapidly losing the rest and thus undermining the very rules-based international order it has sought to create”.

What makes the article so uncommon is that lucid, critical analysis of this sort rarely features in the Mainstream Western Media. Far more often, we are instructed on how support for Ukraine in the US and Western Europe (around 12% of the global population) remains unswerving and so on. You can read the full article here.

Much better than relying on a strong currency that's been floated and is regulated by independent monetary policy. Every economist agrees with that... right? :P

And why again? Oh right, because Russia's now demanding payment in whatever it's able to get its hands on having been cut-off from global markets as punishment for starting a bloody ware & making nuclear threats to anybody that speaks against its war. Boo hoo. Poor Russia.

1. It's an opinion piece, not an article. There's zero research and the economic arguments don't even attempt to pass the muster. I see no technical arguments in there...

2. Your John Menadue post is by Richard Cullen, an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong. and vocal supporter of China's 'Hong Kong National Security Law'. AKA... a white monkey.

3. Moving on to Michael Gfoeller and David H. Rundell. Two American guys who worked in Saudi Arabia for a while before being sacked by the US government (i.e. until they were bought out, so... two defectors). Both are currently self-published authors (with no bio data other than 'worked for US Gov ages ago) who spend a lot of time sucking up to Russia and Saudi Arabia. White monkeys much?
