ash has always had her own way of doing things so while it's an odd move it's not a total surprise.
a pro sportsperson only has a small window to make their mark and i hope it's not a decision that she regrets. there's not much else around in women's tennis atm and if she'd played for another half dozen years she might well have won a grand slam every year - or more.
but she's been such a great performer and you'd have nothing but good wishes for whatever the future holds
She’s a champion, both as a player and a person. I will miss watching her play but good on her for making a decision that’s right for her. It is a bit of a shock but it’s great to see her going out on her terms.
Been a great ambassador for the sport and a credit to herself for the way she's carried herself, won a slam on the three different surfaces despite giving away size with a game based on style and grace.
It wouldn't surprise me if she wished to start a family and is leaving at the top of her game at a relatively young age like Borg and Mark Ella, I wonder down the track if she might do an Evonne like her hero and make a return at a later date and try to win a slam as a mum.
Watching her recently win the Australian open was like watching the Roosters win the prelim in 2018, it was electric.
We all want different things in life dont we?
The first thing I thought of is she could make another at least 5 million dollars if she just played until the end of the year but my way of thinking is unfortunately money driven which makes me selfish & at times not a nice person but Ash is obviously happy with everything she has achieved & shes not money driven & Im so happy for her. I think she wants to be a mum & how beautiful is that.
Just would have loved to see her win the US open so she would have won all 4 Grand Slam titles but not to be, Her Wimbledon win was amazing but the Australian Open win was off the charts, have been waiting since 1980 when Wendy Turnbull was skittled by Hana Mandllkova to see an Australian woman even make the final of the home Grand slam .
Enjoy whatever you do next Ash, you certainly livened up Woman's tennis when you played, such a joy to watch just like your idol Evonne Goolagong/Cawley was all those years ago.

Yeah I love her style... she's a little, stocky person who always looks like she's got a bit of a nervous/shy smile. However, she's a world champ (playing one-on-one against some pretty large/crazy people from all over the place).
Sport needs more people like her. Nick should open up the chequebook and hire her as a consultant as I reckon she's mastered the mental game.
How good was that game last night when Tomljanović ended Williams career!
Personally, I thought it was awful form from the organisers making it all about Serena. The announcer calling her the ‘greatest of all time’ as she walked out was totally wrong and then to play Simply the Best when she lost and interview her like she had won, all before respecting the actual winner. And not once did Serena congratulate Ajla.
The last few years have left a bitter taste on Williams achievements. She’s been an amazing champion but has really turned into a petulant self absorbed brat as she’s got older. I think the fact she can’t beat Court’s record had really absorbed her and although her abilities will be missed, I’m not going to miss her.
Number of major titles aside, my top 3 of all time are-
