I used to go to Unas for years when it was in Double Bay- then it was the Snitzel House, then Pepitown.....and now i think its a real estate agent or Laser skin clinic. Double Bay has turned into a shithole
Oh it sure has. I had to go there for my vaxxes as my GP needed to supervise due to my anaphylaxis and went both ways in a cab both times. Could not wait to get out of the place and be back home up the hill. Rose Bay has been very over developed too and I'm happy to be up the north end.
Sadly we had a Hungarian place close down last year. after many years. It had amazing schnitzel too apparently (I can only eat the gluten free version from Coles). Horrie Hastings was going to come over so we could visit.
It's now a tutoring studio. That's all the empty shops in Rose Bay and Double Bay now become.Last edited by redwhiteblue; 04-07-2022, 08:46 PM. Reason: OMG I've forgotten how to use the quote button properly."Those who care about you can hear you, even when you are quiet" - Steve Maraboli

Rose Bay was really strong for retailers- i haven't been down there for months- has it changed that much?

Then more real estate agents moved in on ground level-deadwood space for retailers.

I don't actually go down to the main shops either as I'm still in the high risk group for Covid even though I've had the 2 doses. I'm up near the north shops and I walk into Vaucluse too (lots of Roosters fans up there to chat to). I must say it took me 40 mins to flag down a cab on New South Head Road a couple of weeks ago when there used to be plenty about."Those who care about you can hear you, even when you are quiet" - Steve Maraboli

The names make for a good joke but IMO those big blocks in chilled communities, with lotsa greenery and mountain views are where it's all at. We're on a corner block with views of the arboretum, black mountain and the pinnacle. As somebody who's had various struggles with mental health, it definitely adds a lot to my life being able to look out to such things and walk around a park-like garden with lotsa little nooks and stuff (I love gardening + having all the birds/lizards/possums/roos...etc out there). It's great seeing my son connect with it too. He's a really athletic/energetic kid (6yo who's bigger & stronger than his cousin who's in year 4) who benefits greatly from outdoor activity & nature.
I love living in Sydney for the big city buzz (not exactly Tokyo but it definitely has its big city charm). However, I kinda prefer the buzz of travelling to Sydney for recreation more than living there. We have lotsa fun staying at mum's terrace in Surry Hills, eating out (usually at Dead Ringer, Una's or the Balkan), watching the footy and having some big walks around the city. Balance I guess... living in peace and visiting the big city for the buzz of it all.
Views of the Arboretum and black mountain woukd be lovely. I hope you have a nice big deck to sit back on and enjoy the views.
I used to to love living in Sydney but don’t miss the place one single bit. It’s good for a vist now and then but that’s it for me. Can’t stand traffic, the push and shove everywhere and the attitude that comes with it.
As a Ken Behran, I’ve got the best of everything and nothing is too far away. As long as you can put up with the occasional bogan crashing a stolen car at 3am on the tuggeranong parkway, it’s a pretty good place to live.FVCK CANCER

Unless its a trip in for a feed at Dumpling House, Civic is a no go zone for us.
And yes, the Berra feels just like a big country town. Love it!FVCK CANCER

Had the booster early Jan so tripled vaxxed, ended up getting Covid about 2 and half weeks ago, had the cough, then the sneezes then the temperature, then a few days of lacking energy and then feeling like a hangover but out the other side now and feeling ok. Like a lot of people i was very skeptical when they were rushing out vaccines without prolonged trial periods and really wanted to wait to see how the trials went but my better half has a compromised immune system so i didn't hesitate in the end getting the jab.
As for Una's, used to be a regular there for for their schnitzel and big breakfasts but had a schnitzel there one day that was so dry i couldn't eat it even with Jaeger sauce, i noticed when leaving the kitchen there was a pile of pre made schnitzel sitting there ready to go into the deep fryer so i decided to not go there again, i did go back one day for their big breakfast because i though they couldn't stuff that up but wrong, eggs were like rubber, mushrooms tasteless and their usually beautiful potato rosti tasted like cardboard, the rosti had always been my favourite and honestly i could probably just eat a plate of them alone but after that last time i just couldn't bring myself to go back again.

At at least it’s still standing tho as my go to kebab shop got blown to bits a few months ago.FVCK CANCER
