Not sure where the people came from originally but i have heard or read somewhere they were in Belconnen years ago before going to Macquarie/ Jamison. I remember many years ago the friends from Hawker took us there for dinner, loved the menu but we ordered pretty safely, i remember seeing pigeon and also pippies on the menu, have always been keen to try pigeon and have always thought pippies at a place inland from the coast could be dodgy, still haven't tried pigeon but my second trip to the place i ordered the pippies and they were superb, so have always ordered then ever since going there.. Just glad they have re opened again and hopefully it will be as good as it was pre covid.

      Great Chinese in suburbia
The restaurant looks very non descript from the outside but don't let that put you off, once inside your taste buds will be taken on a journey. Plenty of the usual suspects on the menu but lots of other tempting morsels on the menu also, our friends love sharing the boiled dumplings in hot vinegar soup for a starter and it is always a refreshing way to kick start the meal, there is a real nice chilli zing to the dish, we also usually order other dumplings which are on the menu. The pippies in XO sauce are a knock out and I always order them every time I go now, the salt and pepper flounder is another great dish, they also have pigeon on the menu which I would like to try one day. The service is good and the place is BYO but has a well priced wine list also.
Just wish this place was closer to home.

Oh cool, that's the one at Jammo then! (Name of the big shopping centre that's in Macquarie as opposed to the Macquarie shops which is a smaller deal with a Vietnamese restaurant and a pharmacy... don't ask me why Canberra does that).

Gonna have to try those pippies as I've got the same vibe as you in that I'm highly skeptical of all seafood in Canberra.

If you are daring and have some spare cash flying about the place, the Kickin Inn in Phillip might be worth a shot.

The missus has put it on our dinner list next time we are back home for a visit.

Off to New York this weekend and looking forward to sampling the street food and pizza scene.

lol, at the Swans yesterday and had people sitting behind us who wouldn't shut up, two of them were heading to New York next week and have been told by their travel agent at the moment not to walk the streets, basically stay in your accommodation and going anywhere jump in a cab or an uber and not to walk, not sure how true that is as they sounded like wankers but there has been news reports over the last month about the crime rate rising in New York, the way these people were raving on it sounded like New York in the 70's. The one and only time i was in New York was in 2000 and felt totally safe and walked everywhere. Hopefully the city hasn't gone to poo again but with Covid who knows. I know Danish was there during the Covid times so he might have some more insight of what it was like at least when he was there.

                Hope you enjoy NY mate!

IMO 'Murricans have had a tough time with COVID and Trump... a lot of my friends on FB just seem a bit shellshocked (e.g. one just had a baby, then tested positive to COVID after getting it in hospital so was kicked out and separated from her new baby. She's no anti-vaxxer but it's understandably made her pretty angry/disillusioned with the whole process and she's starting to get all conspiracy-like about the validity of the tests & whether COVID really exists).

Be interesting to hear what it's really like on the streets of NY. My closest friend in NY has gone to ground for the last 12 months or so (used to be a prolific social media poster). The other one I know (partner at a consulting firm who's Aussie) moved back to Australia ~6 months ago. I'm sure it'll all be sweet over there and that most of the crazies are online rather than out and about.

                    I’m back in DC guys.

Was as a bitch of a drive back but home safe and sound.

Didnt feel unsafe whike were there but you do need to keep your wits about yourself especially when walking in places you are unfamiliar with. Most people won’t mess with me anyway as I’m not a small guy. No ability but just look intimidating. It works in my favor rather well. We were followed by one dodgy lookin bloke at one point but once I saw him behind us, I turned and he scampered. I reckon he was going to make a grab for my wife’s bag. Still didn’t feel unsafe tho.

As you probably heard, there was a terrible attack on people on a train out of Brooklyn headed for Manhattan. Luckily we were up near Times Square so not affected at all. I believe they got the bloke responsible today.

A couple of tips if you are heading there... this was our 3rd visit and learned the hard way how things have changed. Don’t bother with any bus tours. You can pay over $300usd for a family and you go absolutely nowhere! It can take an hour and a half to do 2kms! You won’t get more than one loop in during a day and if you buy a package with the boat tour, they don’t tell you that the bus doesn’t go anywhere near the departure point. It’s a good 30 min walk each way from the closest bus stop and through some dodgy looking areas as well. My tip, plan the things you want to see and Uber to them. You will get plenty of Uber rides for less than the bus tour price. You won’t just get the pre-recorded commentary. We found the only half decent bus tour was the night tour. No drop off and pick ups and pretty much on time.

Get some pizza from Joe’s and Rays. Both famous old school pizza shops and not too bad overall.

Times Square is definitely worth the visit but gets like a bloody zoo from about 5pm onwards.

Get yourself to a a broadway musical as well. We saw MJ the musical last night and although I’m not exactly cultured, this was amazing!

As for the lasting effects of covid, it’s like it almost never existed. Hardly any masks being worn and people from all over the world packing the hotels. Obviously I wasn’t there to see what effect it really had but you could be mistaken for thinking it’s more than past it’s prime. We do still take precautions however. Rather be safe than sorry.

Haha they're just jealous mate! Hope your trip's going well...

Brave of you to go there. Gives me some hope that I should be pushing to go to Japan during their summer holidays to see my daughter this year. She's in a small town (pretty much zero cases for ages now as they all mask up and stay indoors... even during regular flu season) so I reckon it's a calculated risk.

Any more tips? I've never been to NY but feel it's a must for me eventually.

                            Thank mate.

You should get off to see your daughter. Travel is reasonsbly safe at the moment. A lot of protocols in place to stop the spread so while in transit, you are probably the safest.

We drove up to NY from DC and apart from some prick bumping into my car during a Burger King roadie, it was a pretty good run.

Plenty more travel on the cards. Off to Miami and then the Caribbean next month before a run to the great white north. Looking to rent out a lake front cottage for a week in either Quebec or Ontario. I may have left my run a little late tho. Pickings are slim. Once back, a camping trip in the Blue Ridge mountains, West Virginia Is the plan before the run up to Bristol TN for the NASCAR night race.

Got the heaters on back in the Berra yet?

I up and moved the family over here for a few years.

I spend my days doing school runs, kids sports, cooking (tomorrow is chicken wings!) and anything else I want really! Tomorrow morning I will be the watching Roosters game before heading off to ihop to hopefully celebrate the win. Probably get the RC cars out on Monday for a run until I break them again! If that happens, I might just head down the local park and chuck a boomerang around for a bit.
