Tosh Salvo. As the elected government Yanukovych was entitled to decide policy. US meddling (including a CIA sponsored "protest" TV station stirred the young who, like their GDR counterparts in the past, were sold on the freedom to shop. They bought a fantasy picture of the West being the Sheeple that the young are and now find that one can consume very little on minimal wages. It's the poorest and most corrupt nation in Europe.
Peace keeping in the Balkans? The "honourable US" myth? Give us a break puleez!
Johnny B, I'm off to watch my grandson play Paddo Colts u/16 game. He already knows far more than most adults about politics and History.

Millions of people displaced and thousands killed and you keep pointing your finger at the yanks, its a tragedy and there's only one person responsible however you wish to paint it.

[QUOTE=mightyrooster: Too true. Paddo is doing the right thing and discussing these topics in the off section. My comment was not that he shouldn't post here, but more why did he start a new thread when he could have just posted in the existing one.
What does it matter, really? Starting another thread, misusing the quote function? See, this is the trivial and the irrelevant attempting to win the day and I'm sad to say it's time honoured in Oz. It's the ad hominem "Aw look at Albo he's had a makeover" "Cop this old dodderor, what would he know?"
By supplying more and more military hardware, the US is right up to the armpits in ITS war but no body bags are arriving in Washington or anywhere else in the US though they are no doubt arriving in the hometowns of the foreign Right Wing volunteers who make up the bulk of the fascist militias. Would ordinary folk want to endure mass destruction for ideological principles irrelevant to most of them? They wouldn't but the fanatical anti Russian group that was brought to power by the US certainly would.
The US is not benign, Iran calls it "The Great Satan" and it has a long bloody history in that neck of the woods. Might Iran not be right? The CIA is also inflicting the Marcos family back on the Philippines. I keep saying it, but Malcolm Fraser warned us.
It was gratifying to see the polling reception that Dutton's "Prepare for war" got. Big own goal. Fortunately the Aussie Sheeple are just as war wary as they were in 1917 and that's a blessing.

Well you know what Paddo, I have put forward reasonable arguments, as have others, countless times. Just because you choose to disagree with them does not mean they were never posted in the first place. I also posted these arguments long before resorting to comments about the misuse of the quote function and the starting up of new threads. Perhaps you could practise what you preach, as your deflection of other people's arguments by choosing to acknowledge these trivial comments instead, falls into the category of 'attempting to win the day' you are deriding.

Well to be fair, your "arguments' were more of the I hate the violence kind irrespective of how it might have come about.
That said, I had a good day watching the Colts play Forrestville Ferrets on Sunday at Narrabeen. The junior comp is unrecognizable these days, there has been an amalgamation Of Easts, Souths, Norths and Manly juniors and the grounds are far off - Dural last week.
Parents now attend in numbers which didn't happen in my day and the hosts do a Sizzle, beer and drinks. In this case it was the Narrabeen Sharks. Bondi United arrived looking much less athletic than the United sides that I remember (one guy was sporting a Yarmulke) but they were holding their own V Forrestville when I was leaving.
A beautiful day by the Narrabeen lagoon topped it off but I did feel some sadness at the parlous state of Junior League and its loss as a community focal point. I came in near the beginning of it and may well see the end of it.

Glad you had a good day watching the junior footy. Was this your Grandson playing? I agree that the NRL needs to do something about rugby league at the grass roots level and in regional areas. Maybe you should start a new thread on that?

So if i am a "sheepie" for agreeing with the logical majority then so be it....it beats believing in something you cannot see or verify-that's the basis of a conspiracy theorist.

As I've repeated many times, my main source on Ukraine is Pearls and Irritations a site hosted by a former high rank Australian public servant (former Head of PM and Cabinet under Whitlam and Fraser and former Chairman of QANTAS. Contributors are former diplomats, high rank former public servants and academics. I read other opinion like Crikey and Michael West but Pearls is the main one. It tells us that there is alternative intelligent media that appeals to progressive thought and discusses issues in ways that the MSM could't or wouldn't given that News is another political party staffed by low level hacks - the ones that you trust.

There are none so blind as the anti intellectual. Better to trust American misinformation (WMDs for example), the Murdoch press or a bloke down at the pub??
The influence and the presence of Right Wing elements in the Ukraine government is well documented. The government has officially elevated WW2 local Nazis to national hero status and there is a national day dedicated to a WW2 ethnic cleanser nominated by Israel as a Holocaust war criminal.
The holdouts in Mariupol, The Azov battalion, is a paramilitary comprised mostly of foreign Nazis and responsible for the massacres in the East which prompted Russian intervention.
The advance east after D-Day was held up for weeks at the city of Caen with huge losses to the Brits and Canadians. The most effective and callous of the German defenders was the Yungen SS (graduates of Hitler Youth). So cruel and notorious did they become that when captured, most were shot out of hand. We can only hope that a similar fate awaits the Azovs.
