  • Federal Election

Saturday 21 May 2022 we go to the polls. Generally I do not like discussing religion or politics but on this site no discussion is taboo. Feel free to add you thoughts and predictions for this upcoming election. On a personal note I am really excited about voting this time around and I will be putting the major parties last

True but if you know how to use your preferences and do not blindly follow your number 1 choices how to vote card You can potentially change the outcome of the seat in a close electorate.

A good example would be in an electorate without naming names where the two major players are say a Liberal candidate and an Independant I for example don’t want to vote for either of these parties However of after the 1st count of voting nobody has over 50 percent of the vote which in most seats nobody has. What then happens in they start using the preference system IE my number 2 vote goes to that person once my number 1 vote cannot win. This will happen all the way down It may be your second preference cannot win So if goes to your NO 3 and so on. Eventually all the votes in some way end up with the two most popular. So choose your preferences carefully.

Now back to the imaginary seat where the winner will either be Liberal or Independant. For me I would put Liberal last Labor and Greens just above them Now the easiest thing for me to do is vote the Independant however there is one thing I don’t like about this person policy wise and I cannot give them my NO1 vote The party that appeals to me is giving the Liberals there preferenceswhich does not suit what I want to happen over all Personally I would like to see the minor parties hold the balance of power. So to avoid that I vote for my party of choice but don’t follow there how to vote card after that and I put the Independant 2nd. My party of choice cannot win only Liberal or the Independant can I don’t want the Libs to win that seat as I’m hoping for a hung parliament. The Independant or any minor party winning give that the best chance of happening. So my 2nd preference goes to the Independant and once my 1st choice is out my vote ends up there.

Now if enough people do this and put the majors parties last especially in all the close seats or everywhere We may find a parliament where the majors are accountable and have to work with the minors to get things done That Eddie is the only way around this ridiculous 2 party system we have.

I've already voted. Let's see how the vote goes...

As I'm in a safe Labor seat, my vote is basically useless. Great to know I've been able to have my say though.

PS - can I delete the term 'democracy sausage?' To me voting isn't about hanging out and making a big day of it. Rather... I wanna get in and get out ASAP, avoiding as much propaganda as possible.

For me the Greens are always last on my ballot and always will be. Both majors will be 2nd and 3rd last as there's no Simon Says candidate in my electorate, thank God. So it comes down to conservative minor parties fighting out for top spot. Still deciding.

            Good post..........definitely food for thought.
However, I'm too cynical to believe that enough people would play that game to make a difference..........................perhaps if voting wasn't compulsory we'd have a chance.

I'm no great fan of any of the choices we have, but my gut feeling is the country can't afford a labour government at this time.

[QUOTE=A Country Member; Yeah, all that free health care. Cut it off. No one needs it.

I'll bet half of the twats on here think Little Johnny Howard gave us Medicare when what he gave us was a $14 billion dollar taxpayer subsidy to PHI (Private Health insurance) which is so successful in the USA.

I loathe this sort of vox pop where the ignorant and deeply uninformed air their "opinions" to an equally ignorant audience. Take Eddie who thinks that OZ can't afford a Labor Government. He certainly won't be able to afford much of anything the way that wages are going (ie backwards), Has it even entered Eddie's consciousness that the Libs spent $8 billion on NOTHING with the ditching of the French Sub deal - threw it away, that Robodebt was illegal and cost 1 billion in compensation, that 40 billion was handed to mates during the Covid period who had no need of the money and won't refund it or be asked to. Surely he could not have missed the goading of our main trading partner, the source of our prosperity and our saviour during the GFC at the behest of the USA who in turn filched the items of trade that were taken from us in retaliation. That millions were spent on airport land valued at a fraction of what was paid seems not to have registered at all. Is he at all concerned that countless millions are squandered on incarcerating asylum seekers? What can one say about a voter like Eddie - "half wit" springs to mind - He doesn't think FFS where does the "gut feeling" come from? Murdoch is a safe bet.

Big Dolt is another cross we have to bear. Urging a vote for minor Conservatives - you know who he means don't you? One Nation morons, Fishers and Shooters, Christian ratbags. He's one of the resident patriots along with '08 who is a conservationist who votes Tory (Go figure). Big Dolt follows the News Ltd line on just about everything and the result is a rolled gold ignoramus who doesn't understand the electoral system. Surely these people are working class? They follow Rugby League. How do they possibly see their modest economic interests coinciding with the interests of the rich?

Politics in Australia is the age old struggle between Capital and Labor. We're not all in it together, class is real.

                        Yes it has.
That was a terrible mistake.............why spend so much money on technology that's nearly 100 years old?
We're better off getting out of that one.

Outta curiosity.................Do you misuse the quote function on purpose?
                        If so what's the point?
Only a "half wit" would get it wrong every single time.

So the $8 billion for NOTHING was well spent? Have you even considered that the French Subs was a Liberal Government decision? From your point of view, doesn't that decision suggest profligacy and maladministration? I mean the Greens didn't order them. Yet you have the mindless effrontery to to share some random "gut feeling". Like Big Dolt you are a rusted on ignorant working class Tory well and truly influenced by a foreign, war mongering media mogul.

Most of us aren't attracted to the nuclear option Edward, only an empty head could be especially when the main beneficiary is the USA. Do you have any opinions that aren't those of News Ltd?

The only way Australia can save itself is by getting nuclear weapons.
                            Nuke-powered, nuke-armed subs included.
Ukraine was once nuke-armed...now look what's happening to it.

                            *

Turnbull was PM when the French submarine deal was signed.
France kept increasing the price and blowing out the completion date...and kept decreasing the Australian content.
ScoMo was 100% correct ditching the French subs and signing up to the Aukus alliance.
