The whole election system is a joke.
We're supposed to live in a democracy, yet we are forced to vote.
Smacks of 'Nazi Germany' to me.
Vote, or else bad things will happen to you...you will have to take money out of your bank account and pay it to the govt.
If you don't pay this money to the govt the govt will cancel your driver's licence.
What a croc of a system.
Voting should be optional as in America.

            Preferential voting is ridiculous.
The candidate who gets the most votes should win the seat.

            I just voted.
The cardboard booth was wobbling around so much I could hardly put pen to paper.
I should've been able to vote online, before today.

Like the last US election when the choice was between a megalomaniac clown and a doddering old dribbler look at the pathetic choice we are left with.
Scomo who has been inept and eggshells Albo who did his best work when he was hidden by covid.
It's a far cry from the charisma of Hawke and the wit of Keating.
I'm just grateful that I won't have to listen to it's not my job or it won't be easy under Albanese any longer.

[QUOTE=mightyrooster; I'm not so sure there will be change. Better the devil you know in uncertain times and all that. Labor couldnt win the so called unlosable election last time. Just an objective opinion of what I think might happen in case a certain poster gets any ideas about giving me a two paragraph lecture.

Here we go, another one with a "gut feeling" otherwise known as the fervent hope of a rusted on working class Tory. Labor didn't win last round because reasonable and equitable, not to sat necessary, policies were misrepresented by the MSM to an ignorant, timid and disengaged electorate. Policies that might have eased the housing market for your children yet you, BB and the the Mug Pug voted for the rich yet again and for their no action on Climate. BB and Edmund must have thought that they had the 2 million + Super account that qualified for a tax refund when no tax had been paid. And you call yourself an Economist.

You're Right BB, the "system is a joke. We're supposed to live in a democracy..". Over years the Conservative establishment in collusion with a media monopoly has managed to make Federal politics all about the economy otherwise known as the interests of the rich. The one time that showed that people and the community was the proper focus, the power elite in OZ went ballistic. Every ploy possible was enlisted to return to the status quo - the CIA (also busy working on Allende in Chile at the time), Murdoch's "bucket of shit" every day after Gough had called him a "bore" and rejected his demand to be made High Commissioner to the UK and three forced elections in 3 years all wrought by breaking parliamentary conventions willy nilly. The denouement was a political coup hatched by a conspiracy of the "highest" in the land including High Court judges and the Monarchy. That was/is our "Democracy" - like the US, a Plutocracy

Here we go making assumptions yet again. You are absolutely correct as to why Labor lost the election in 2019. I AGREE with you! Do not presume to know who I voted for either. I am not basing it on a 'gut feeling'. I am basing it on history - the 'sheeple' do not like to change direction when they are concerned about their hip pocket. The cost of living, including housing is on the rise. The economy is uncertain. Time and time again, history shows that an electorate will go for the devil they know than risk someone else who doesn't, on the face of it, seem to offer that much more. You put in a leader of the ALP who can actually get their message across eloquently and succinctly, Labor would win in a landslide. But IMO that's not going to happen. It will be close yet again and could go either way.

                            A: The Labor Party.

Nup the best thing/s the Libs have got going for them is the MSM owned by the rich, the High Court presided over by the rich, the Military, the Security services staffed by the rich and 50% in thrall to the rich who don't seem to think or just plain don't know that politics is all about class and which class gets to divvy up the GDP pie.

In a country where the median wage is around $50K p/a (Google it), nongs like you keep voting for the interests of the rich. over your own. Mostly the reason for that sort of sycophancy is a deep generational respect for wealth even though most wealth in Australia is inherited. It's working class self loathing although dumb fcukery also looms large.

I quit education because of the dumb arse perversity that I saw year in year out. They had a free solid education as their birthright, their ticket out of the moronic "Bet with a mate" future ahead of them but they preferred to disrespect that as had their parents before them. They all do grow up but only in the physical sense. Essentially the dopey, culturally deprived and easily led adolescent lives on.

Should be fun watching Albo trying to crank up local manufacturing using solar panels and wind mills.

The percentage of Carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere is 0.04%.
Of that 0.04%, anywhere from 3.6% to 5% is produced by humans.

Yes. Seems Alan Jones was correct:
"(man-made) Climate change is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind."

                              Want cleaner air?
Sure, no more diesel, and petrol/oil, coal pollution, ...would be great.
The problem with leftards is they actually believe solar panels and wind turbines produce electricity 24/7.

We're sitting ducks, just like Ukraine.
Ukraine learnt the hard way the folly of disarming and signing nuclear non-proliferation treaties like Australia foolishly did.

Does the AUKUS alliance involve nuclear weapons?
It was my understanding that the subs would be nuclear powered but use conventional weapons............

In either case it does show how stupid the Turnbull government was to sign off on the french deal.
The diesel/electric sub might have been cutting edge when it replaced those that were powered by paraffin engines.....................but it was superseded many, many years ago.
