We are probably 2nd best currently? If not pretty damn close.

The Panthers are on another level now. Someone has to play them on GF day.

Hang in there. We have plenty to work with.

We went with them for a fair chunk of the game, but not the 80. I think we are still improving, not regressing.

No more than usual...been an ordinary night all up obviously. If meangirl KK loses Fowler some consolation. Likely a one term govt but can do some damage in 3 years. Very hard to get a 4th consecutive term so was always going to be unlikely.

I am with you Jack - it was a very ordinary night.
I can't wait for all the new "reforms" to be rolled out.
      3 years of hell.
One things for sure- I know that none of the "reforms" are going to benefit me.

As of last night the L/NP had a higher percentage of the 1st preference vote at a touch over 35% than Labor who were sitting at a touch over 31% so 69% or so of voters did not actually vote for Labor to form a Government whether outright or as a minority Government with cross bench support.

So there is actually no mandate at all based on 1st preference vote percentages - The issue of course will be what these so called "Independents/Cross benches " will want for their support if only a minority Government can be formed

The electoral system is flawed as a result of preferential voting which at best should be optional preferential voting - in reality it should be first past the post - i.e candidates elected on who obtains the most 1st preference votes.

3 year terms are not sufficient either as 1st year any new Government is settling in - 2nd year they may be able to implement some of their policies and reforms and 3rd year they are basically in campaign mode to seek re-election.

4 or 5 year terms would be more appropriate.

I am waiting for red cuban bandana to pop his head up sprouting his daft republic model and advocating for a referendum.

Maybe ask the poor folk about their rusted on dedication to Labor which is dwindling as there are less poor folk nowadays so they have been following the money instead and voting L/NP or for other non Labor candidates.

Labor's 1st Preference votes have been decreasing every election.

Doesn't matter what you think King. Preferential Voting is the system and it's nonsense to say that the primary vote determines a mandate. Labor's primary vote has decreased by the 10 -12 % of progressives who vote Green now. Without the Nats the Libs would never form government. In every respect every Tory win results in a hung parliament.

Social Democratic parties represent all demographics which don't share the interests of Capital. That, of course, would include the disadvantaged. There is no evidence that there are less poor, on the contrary the wealth gap is egregiously widening. You're blowin' it through your arse as usual you Christian you.

Tasmania, however, is an exception. Lowest education levels of any state, highest unemployment, highest levels of gambling, biggest share of GST money plus a Murdoch media monopoly. A basket case if ever there was one and anyone with any get up and go got up and went some time ago leaving an ageing, disgruntled. and confused dumb residue which, like their knucklehead brethren in the US, see Tories as their salvation. The only state that swung to the Libs. Go figure

LOl...I thought I'd had one too many Lady Grey teas...its because Andy asked Jack a question in one of the footy threads so that post got moved and created a new thread...anyway my contribution is that I had a dream this week that Allegra Spender would win in my area (Horrie Hastings is my witness) and looks like I was right..maybe it was because her posters are all over my one hour walking trail over Vaucluse..

They won't benefit anyone except those in power. How long do you think it'll be before AnAl gets knifed?

rudd never had a power base inside the federal parliamentary labor party but albo does. plus the rules of the party have changed so it's not just up to the fplp to decide who is leader - if there was a mood for change they have to take it to the rank and file members. albo is the overwhelming favourite to take the labor party to the next election.

people whinging about labor's low primary vote need to look at the scoreboard. australia has a preferential voting system and parties plan their campaigns accordingly. would it be fairer for a government to be elected with most of the people not wanting them elected? of course not.

Good too much alcohol is very bad. Can I be so bold as to recommend tea as an alternative. Our resident tea expert says Lady Grey is a wonderful drop. Personally I’ve found this wonderful Sri Lankan tea which a box of 50 sells for $2.19

Parachuting Kristina into Fowler was a big misread by Labor, what was a safe Labor seat could now really haunt them as they push towards 76 seats. Watching the results last night i said to someone what happens if Labor get to 75 seats and Fowler costs them the 76th. Was a very strange decision by Labor.

If it's a hung parliament it would be chaos and Labor would be completely hamstrung. We definitely need a majority government.
