The best oysters in the world come from that region. Wapengo Lake oysters are the best i have tasted but the whole region from the Clyde river down to there produce beautiful oysters.

Just went into South West Rocks to get some prawns and oysters, also got a couple of pearl perch fillets, not much whole fish in the co op except for some small flathead and some nice looking leatherjackets and one single lonely looking morwong. Where i got the pearl perch fillets from at the local butcher had mangrove jack fillets which is interesting as i thought you could not commercially sell them because of a similarity to one of the reef fish which has the ciguatera poisoning.
Anyway fresh bream from the surf for dinner tonight, going to go to river later with some of the prawn heads and try my luck.
Beach bream are fantastic eating. Sounds like a seafood smorgasbord up there!

It never disappoints. Where did you stay? If I’m overnighting there, I’m usually on the Fishpen.

Got some very fond memories and not so fond ones from there.

          • Holiday travels will include:
            - A trip down to the beach house with my wife, her sister and a few old friends

            - Going up to Brissy so catch some old friends

            - Heading to Vietnam for lunar new year

Pretty excited as it's been a big year in regards to lots of things (including work, my daughter, running and personal development). Hopefully this is a good time to reflect on what we've got over some seafood and a few glasses of wine.

Had pearl perch fillets for dinner last night so it will bream for dinner the next couple of nights unless i freeze the latest ones i caught to bring home but i think they will be eaten here.

Mollymook is a pretty spot but not much to do there unless you like the beach or walking, that said i have had the two most memorable whale watching experiences there and both from the shore line, both times the whales came in very close to the shoreline and one was a mother with its calf, both times were absolutely memorable.

We're south of Mollymook but it's definitely a beautiful part of the world. There's lots of good stops along the way...

Ah thanks. That’s helpful to know. We’ve always gone south from Batemans Bay to the Narooma / Merimbula / Eden area or up to Port Stephens. Kiama and Gerringong are other areas of interest but they seem to be really expensive.

Some very nice spots between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay. Pebbly and Depot beach, South Durras, Bawley Point, all beautiful spots.

Dont get me wrong, Mollymook is still a nice place but would only spend a night or two there. We used to stay at Bannisters while they wers doing it up as a resort, had some great specials there in the shoulder season, a great pool and cocktail bar and restaurant but now it has really priced itself out of us ordinary holidayers and Rick Stein has his finger in the pie now for a while and what was a nice casual restaurant is an over priced toursit trap.
Nearby Milton is a nice spot to browse the shops and there used to be a great B&B there called Mrs Top, they also ran a nice restaurant at night, Miljana went there on one occasion, unfortunately the wife passed on so this is not an option any more although the husband still offers B&B on the weekend. It was sad losing Vanessa the wife as she was a personal friend and they both ran a very successful restaurant in Sydney before moving down to Milton.

                          • Amnother stunning day up the coast, spent an hour in the river swimming late this morning, went to the beach around 3.30 pm , took the rod but went mainly for a swim, water was so clear but after about half an hour in we noticed some blue bottles moving in, had a quick flick after getting out with a few pippies and hooked a stonker bream of 29 and a half cm, put on a great fight on the little estuary rod and pulled me sideways a few times till i beached it, beautiful fish, im really enjoying just have a quick flick here and there at the moment instead of spending the whole day fishing.

Git em into ya fresh mate. Much better.

Going to try and contact Trapman from Bermi to get some recommendations on someone to take us out for Mahi Mahi. The warm water has come through early this year and bringing plenty of good size ones. The kings are heating up also. Going to test out the arm strength!
