You won't much like this Salvo but not all Aussies revere and respect military "service" as much as you do. I recall a Friday night back in the day at the old Bronte Charles, maybe '67, when the Paddo Boys inflicted serious casualties on elements of 5 RAR newly returned from Vietnam and boisterously celebrating their tour. Now the Paddo Boys wouldn't have known their political arse from their political elbow but they could spot a team of mugs a mile off and 5 RAR we carrying on somethin' awful - annoying the sheilas etc. Confident they were, too, about taking it outside but out on McPherson St it was Long Tan in reverse - no American air strikes and blanket artillery barrages there nor any "Thank you for your service".

Mummy will stay till the end. She is a traditionalist and sees it as her duty. Old Charles has spent his whole life preparing for something which may not last long. But then since Mummy is 96 and Granny lived to 100+ he may have another good quarter of a century left in him! Papa also went well into his 90s!!
maybe she's a traditionalist but there are more compelling political reasons for her to stay on - she's the best political weapon the monarchy has. she's the reason why the republic debate hasn't been revisited for more than two decades here

Not saying it shouldn't be acknowledged/celebrated, just thought was a long bow to draw compared to the Jubilee in terms of newsworthiness.

I’m suggesting how invested our country, the media, the people is in the monarchy as opposed to the idea of a republic. There’s a long way to go before it happens, if ever. Unlikely in my lifetime anyway. We’re more interested in celebrating the achievements of a foreign monarch than our own country celebrating our own indigenous history.
I'm not a fixed Monarchist or Republican for the record.#We Stand with ourJewish community#

Yeah...but I guess that's where the crux of the Monarchy/Republic debate lies. We also have a large % of our population directly descended from Britain/UK so that should also be acknowledged, alongside those descended from the ancestors of this land itself geographically. We are one but we are many etc.
I'm not a fixed Monarchist or Republican for the record.
