I wasnt really into the rave not disco biscuit scene but I went to a race once.......

I had a few friends who were ravers. A bit of a story like Jizz, chicks I knew dragged me along with their friends, it was a fun night then morning but not something I would do again lol......

I wouldnt have a clue of the title of any rave anthem either lol......

Two raves that I remember are Utopia and Fantasia. I think Utopia was the Sega World one and Fantasia was a touch-and-go one out in Homebush (was gonna be canned but wasn't so I got in). They had lotsa themepark rides and stuff setup which was cool. I went with a supermodel kinda hot girl who ditched me for some DJ then got all p!ssed that I didn't hang around to give her a lift home at the end (recurring theme... you can tell I was anything but the cool guy). She ended up getting married to a pro surfer I believe (not sure what happened to our friend the DJ).

I never went to any raves but I did spend most of the 90's on Oxford St waving my hands in the air like I just don't care..my NRL knowledge of that period in time is pretty much zilch...

I never went to any raves but I did spend most of the 90's on Oxford St waving my hands in the air like I just don't care..my NRL knowledge of that period in time is pretty much zilch...

I spent most of my time pumping weights at Gold's Gym around about that time (where I got a lot of cat calls from excited clubbers, loading up on beers at Colombian before hitting DMC, Midnight Shift...etc. However, I most vividly remember taking my grandma out for coffee at Belgenny's on Sunday morning (after training with Jack Giddy's squad up north at Rotary). While we were in our own little grandson & grandma world, there'd be pepped up clubbers filing into the Manacle and Banana Bar at 10am as their second (or third/fourth) trips started to kick in (having been going since Friday night).

IMO a night out in 90's Oxford st was far more intense than any rave. A bygone era that should be celebrated!

Oh I swear there was not a bar or club left unturned by me and my friends..everywhere from Centrepoint Tavern right down to the Clovelly Hotel and everywhere in between..

Does anyone remember the club where colourful cocktails were served in test tubes? I think it was around Taylor Square..I feel ill just thinking about it..now where did I put my cup of tea...?

Poor old Oxford st is a sad shell of what it used to be back in the 80's and 90's, empty shops everywhere and derelicts hanging around, the place used be an exciting and welcoming place but it is unrecognisable now.

The times when i would end up at the Courthouse Hotel and the sun was rising after being out all night clubbing, ahhh those days are long gone but were enjoyable at the time.
Even just ending up at the Beauchamp Hotel after the Swans and Roosters games on a Sunday afternoon when they had promotions and give aways on were fun.

Not sure about RWB's club with the cocktails but sounds decent! Taylor Square area... all I can think of is the Stonewall, Banana Bar, Taxi Club and Manacle. There were so many holes in the wall though ay! Each door had a full blown nightclub.

I spent quite a few years living near the Beauchamp (Rose Tce if you can picture it... little laneway off South Dowling with a park at the end). Can remember it and the Albury basically took over both sides of Oxford st as you'd have people walking between the two with a beer in hand.

Side note, I used to DJ at the upstairs venue across South Dowling from the Beauchamp. However there were no crazy party tunes. I was a nerdy dude who mostly did slow-tempo club mixes of jazz/blues tunes while people were eating dinner at the Chinese restaurant or enjoying a few early cocktails at the bar (all unpaid but I enjoyed the vibe of it all).

Yes cant say i remember any bar that served cocktails in test tubes, the only one i can sort of think of was maybe The Taylor Square Hotel which was where Flinders st wrapped around onto Campbell st where Gilligans Island was , way before it was the Taylor Square Hotel it was the infamous Barracks bar, think its a medical centre now.

Lived around the Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, East Sydney area from 1986- 1996 so spent many nights and mornings along the strip. The Sunday sessions at the Oxford Hotel were great, the Taxi Club was always great late at night, back before the Liquor laws changed, it was one of the few places you could get a beer on Good Friday. Despite all great bars and clubs that were heaving on weekend nights, the strip had some great eateries, you mentioned Cafe Belgenny, before it was Belgenny, it was the Schnitzel Haus, a lovely old couple ran it and the schnitzels were huge and delicious, i always remember the Niagara Falls clock they had on the wall, then was the Balkan who also did great schnitzels among other great dishes, Rockerfellers, the American hamburger joint which was fabulous, loved their mozzarella sticks, there were so many more places and 99.9 % are now gone.

Yes i know Rose Terrace , its a lovely little street, there are some nice hidden spots like that around the area. That DJ gig you had sounds great, jazz and blues are so soothing and relaxing to listen to, would have been a great time for you despite not being paid.

Still have a mixed party tape which has this song on it, it sits in the old walkman which i still sometimes take to the beach to listen to .
Think i still have Culture Beats Mr Vain in my CD single collection also.
